A brief overview of the creation of Earth and its residents:
Before Earth, before the sun and before the Universe, there was the Primordials. These beings existed outside of time and space, and were creatures of pure energy and power. But, the Primordials still had the capability to feel and think, and some even felt what is known as greed and bloodlust. A war began, and the Primordials tried stealing the powers of their peers. This war was so grand and catastrophic, it caused the event known to mankind as the Big Bang. Weakened from the cataclysm, the Primordials died except for very few. These last creatures went dormant, preserving their energy. Only one remained active, having fed off the energy, the Primordial being War remained awake. However, new beings awoke from the fight.
The Original Gods came into being, born from sentience, need, and energy. Their names were Varos, Locutus and Erlang. The Three Gods eventually divided themselves into lesser beings. Varos created the beings of Virtue and Sin. Locutus created Fire, Water and Earth. Erlang divided himself into Truth and Lies.
The forms of the lesser beings were not like those of the Gods, and were merely the pure essence of each element. However, in pursuit of knowledge, Erlang shaped the lesser beings of Truth and Lies into Gods who were named Forgery and Ishtara. Forgery quickly lied to his brethren to gain dominance, establishing himself as a King and claiming to have existed before the other Gods.
On another world, Nysa was born, and began to form her world separate from Earth, each unaware of the other’s existence. For more information, see Nysa's Lore
The first union is well recorded. A being of fire and a being of water conceived the first child, thereby producing love. A winged horse named Aine was born of this union, a unique new being who brought the lesser being of Air into the world. In the power of this first union, the child was blessed, becoming a Goddess herself.
And, like Aine, Somnus was born without the aid of the Gods. He was born as a product of the collective unconscious. All of the dreams of all of the creatures and living beings congealed into a metaphysical creature. The unconscious power of dreams, of imagination, shaped Somnus, unleashing him into reality.
What proceeded next in the world is surprisingly well documented by humans today. Ice covered the Earth on multiple occasions, giving birth to the lesser being of Ice. Creatures of all manner came into existence, such as mammals and dinosaurs. A Primordial named Xiuhcoatl awoke. The Fire Serpent was jealous of the Gods, so he sent a meteor towards the Earth. To escape, the Gods hid within the dimension of the Khyper-Diorem, where they began to build Shangri-la as a safe haven against the dangers of the other world. The Gods also fashioned the Sphinxes to guard their new home. The impact of the meteor awoke a second Primordial being, known as the Seamstress. Seeing the result of his impact, Xiuhcoatl retreated back into slumber.
At first, the Gods welcomed the Seamstress, and she acted as a teacher towards them. The Seamstress did not agree as the Gods built Shangri-la, but the tension arose with Forgery. Seeking to be as powerful as the Primordial, he spun tales and told lies to both the Gods and the Seamstress. He provoked rivalry, portraying the Seamstress as an evil conqueror and the Gods as unjust. Eventually, he banished the Seamstress, acting as if it were the decision of all the other Gods.
Eventually, evolution occurred. Intelligence evolved into Primates, and had many sub-species. One branch of the intelligent Primates eventually led to the human race. As they progressed, the lesser beings became interested in the humans. Coupling occurred, causing the creation of daemons, angels and elementals. Despite the fact daemons and angels did not inherit a tendency for good or evil, parts of their Virtuous and Sinful ancestry manifested itself. This occurred mostly in their appearance, thereby creating the angels’ beautiful appearance and the daemons’ horrific one. The Reapers were also a result of coupling, and daemons who purified their bloodlines through coupling solely with Sin spirits eventually birthed them. The Reapers were more in tune with their spiritual powers thanks to the strong presence of the Sin spirits, but it was also the cause of their terrifying appearance.
Elementals at first took on much less human appearances, appearing as if they were simply an element with a humanoid body. However, after several generations, the Lesser Beings lost sentience, and the elementals bred with humans into their watered down version we know today. Elementals are still able to briefly connect with their ancestral spirits, allowing them to take on powerful forms, however they cannot do it long or often.
The vampyres originated from humans. Antoinette Argonith was both the first vampyre and the first cannibal. Empowered by the blood of her victims, she transcended into Demi-Godhood. She mixed her blood with seven chosen humans to create more vampyres. Their names were Prishtara, Hito’radeau, Roumari, Stone, Xenyar, Occuilus and Mortumar. Hence, no vampyre is truly a pure-blood as they are descendent of a created vampyre (as even Antoinette’s naturally birthed children possessed mixed blood from their father).
The Gorgons were created by Erlang towards the beginning of Greek civilization. The God had been impressed with the humans’ advances in philosophy and other studies such as mathematics, and decided to take a few humans as apprentices. He chose three sisters whom were devout worshippers of knowledge and brought them to his library. With time the sisters became curious and greedy; they used their knowledge to gain mass amounts of magical power. Appalled by their treachery, Erlang turned the three sisters into half-snake women. However they retained their power, transforming them into Goddesses. The three sisters, outcast from the library, began to create more in their image and founded the Gorgon race.
Dragons had existed for thousands of years prior to the development of intelligent life on Earth. They were fierce residents of the Khyper-Diorem. A violent and powerful species, it was a dragon who was the first to kill a Primordial being. Sama'el Ymir slew war, becoming the first mortal to achieve complete Godhood.
The dragons of the Khyper-Diorem were eventually driven out. Many travelled through portals to Earth, and those whom remained eventually died out. The first dragons found themselves in Ancient Greece, yet there was a sudden explosion of Dragons recorded in the Middle Ages. They were wild and destructive beings, causing havoc wherever they went. One named Ragnarok nearly caused the end of the world, which caused Varos to intervene. To balance the destructive power she chose the weakest of species: the humans. Linking their minds together she forced dragons to become dependent on the humans. The entire species was affected, linking each dragon to a human chosen by Varos before birth.
Once Locutus blessed the werebeasts, shapeshifters soon came into being. The mixed-bred children of werebeasts and elementals, they could not master their elemental heritage but rather expanded on the werebeasts, learning to shift their bodies into more than just animals. As they were not purebred, they could not shift into the werebeasts’ hybrid form. They were also limited to species originally from Earth, thereby unable to shift into dragons and sphinxes. Mermaids also came from the coupling of water elementals and Aquatic werebeasts, the latter of which are now extinct. The mermaids were more closely tied to their elemental parent and found they couldn’t live without them, unlike their water elemental cousins.
Unlike the belief of human scientists, other species began to evolve. A subspecies of the bull slowly developed as the primates had, eventually resulting in the Minotaur. Canines evolved into the Anubis. The centaur came from horse ancestry, and even managed to slightly surpass the humans in intelligence.
The first Fae was of human descent. A centaur had found an abandoned child in the woods and decided to raise it as his own. The centaur came to love the little human girl, Fae, even seeing her as his own daughter. He had been the leader of a tribe and a ‘Venus’ of Aine, acting as her messenger; he raised Fae and showed her all he could, teaching her to respect and love the earth. When Fae fell horribly ill, none could cure her. He begged and pleaded to the Goddess, however she had told him that her soul now belonged to Anpu, the Demi-God of Violent Death. Aine agreed to make a deal with Anpu, however the centaur had to agree to an unknown cost. He agreed. Anpu demanded that the centaur was to kill his daughter, and that she would be revived anew. Having placed himself in a contract, the centaur shot an arrow through the girl’s head. However, as she laid in a pool of blood, she did not revive. The blood soaked her hair and dripped into her eyes, but she didn’t stir. Struck by grief at the betrayal, the centaur killed himself, allowing his blood to mix with his dead daughter’s.
Aine appeared above the corpses and breathe life back into the girl. Having been blessed by Aine, a spirit of air, she grew wings. Her hair and eyes remained stained from the blood. To honour this connection the centaurs and fae have always retained nothing but kindness to each other.
