Somnus the Dreamer
God of Dreams
Somnus holds power over the realms of sleep and dreams, and is most encountered when entering his domain. Due to his mischievous nature, and the nature of his power, Somnus is often caught influencing individuals who capture his attention in the human world. Whether this is to aid in a greater goal or simply for his amusement is hard to say, though he is known to indulge in pleasures of all kinds. The Dreamer finds a particular delight in distorting others' perceptions of reality, mostly by injecting himself and numerous dream-like impossibilities into their subconscious mind when it is at its most active point.
Hero/Heroine of Somnus
Those who please Somnus the Dreamer significantly might become a Hero/Heroine of Somnus the Dreamer; that is, they will be granted blessings that vary by tier. Each tier of this nature is progressively more beneficial than the last, and past blessings are retained.
Daydreamer - The first tier of official favor has been gained from Somnus the Dreamer. You don't know quite how it happened, but suddenly you find that every dream that you can recall has been nothing but pleasant. In addition, while you rest your body seems to recuperate at a much faster rate. There is an almost sleepy quality to the blessed's demeanor, whether they realize it or not, though their eyes remain piercing and almost unusually bright.
Rester - The second tier of official favor has been gained from Somnus the Dreamer. You find yourself able to remember every detail of all of your wonderful, increasingly perfect dreams. A slight black outline has emerged around the eyes of the blessed, marking their progress along the path of their dreams. They retain the blessings from the previous tier.
Sleeper - The third tier of official favor has been gained from Somnus the Dreamer.
You seem to have developed a peculiar ability recently. You can fall asleep anywhere, just by closing your eyes and... Well, making an effort to sleep! Of course, you also seem to be able to put those around you to sleep if you concentrate on them hard enough. How peculiar... The very pupils of the blessed's eyes have changed. Two additional entrances for light have developed on both sides of the pupil, marking their advancement. They retain the blessings from the previous tiers.
Dreamer - The fourth tier of official favor has been gained from Somnus the Dreamer.
You have been granted the gift of being able to share your dreams with another. The gift of showing others what you want them to see, hear what you want them to hear, though, only one at a time. The irises of the blessed have developed a slight orange tint around the exterior, marking their new found abilities and favor. They retain the blessings from the previous tiers.
Accursed of Somnus
Those who anger Somnus the Dreamer significantly might become Accursed; that is, they will be inflicted with curses that vary by tier. Each tier of the Accursed is progressively more dangerous than the last.
Insomniac - The first tier of the Accursed has been cast by Somnus the Dreamer. You have been having trouble falling asleep lately for some reason, and maybe it's because of the horrible nightmares that you've been having, but you swear that whenever you wake up you are much less rested than you should be. Deep, black bags have developed under the eyes of the afflicted.
Narcoleptic - The second tier of the Accursed has been cast by Somnus the Dreamer. The long nights without sleep and the increasingly horrible nightmares have begun to take their toll on your body, in the most inconvenient moments you find that you are irresistibly drawn to sleep. In addition to the black bags, the afflicted's eyes have become increasingly bloodshot. A telltale sign of their sleeping habits, and a hint of something more. They retain the curses of the previous tier.
Lucid Dreamer - The third tier of the Accursed has been cast by Somnus the Dreamer. Your nightmares have begun invading your waking moments in the form of terrible daydreams. You no longer have any escape from these terrors, and you find yourself unable to forget even the tiniest of details of these machinations. The light in the afflicted's eyes has vanished leaving behind nothing but dull orbs, lifeless and grey in color. They retain the curses of the previous tiers.
Waking Nightmares - The fourth tier of the Accursed has been cast by Somnus the Dreamer. You can no longer distinguish between reality and your dreams. One flows into the other so fluidly that it has become impossible to tell where the madness ends, or where it has begun. A bloodshot eye has been imprinted in the center of the afflicted's chest, open wide with horror. They retain the curses of the previous tiers.
As a demigod, a Hysteria is not yet granted.
