Jack shrugged, chewing thoughtfully on his gum. "If this thing was a part of a pack, then where were the rest of them? A hunting pack would've made more of a mess, I would think. But from the tracks it looks like there was only one of them. That doesn't seem like typical pack behavior but I'm not really much of an animal person."
The young man exhaled, watching the water vapor as it floated in front of his face. Jack didn't show it, but an entire pack of monsters big enough to drag off an entire horse worried him quite a bit. It wasn't so much what it seemed capable of doing, though it's power and versatility certainly were cause for concern, as it was the creature's apparent willingness to attack in front of crowds of people. If that were kept up then it would only be a matter of time before someone caught it on video or hunted it down and upset the delicate balance that kept humans unaware of such things.
"We've got to stop it. Them." Jack said grimly. Stop it the only way he knew how. By killing it.
Nyght nodded, moving on to a street and looking around. They needed somewhere private, where they where not going to be over heard or spied upon. This book, her Grimoire, was her life at the moment. She was spending hours reading it everyday, studying it's contents and musings. She had inherited it, and not just from anybody but stolen it from her father. After all, this was her most important clue as to who and what she herself was. It also had become somewhat of a journal for her, and she was not about to let it out her sight or somebody go snooping through it with out her permission.
She contemplated the same cafe they had left, but there had been to many people around for her liking and taste. She continued to walk along a street growled in frustration. Where they hell where they going to go? She suddenly got an idea and grinned, and walked a little bit further. She then turned, and strode directly in to...a strip club. She walked in, reaching in to her backpack and pulling out a fake ID and flashing it. Well, it was only partially fake. All the information upon it was actually real, except the address which was Aela's. The reason it was fake was Nyght was definitely NOT an American nor did she actually have a driver's license. Hell she did not even have a passport to be in the country. She could easily get kicked out.
However the bouncer was not looking for those sorts of fakes, and she was quickly given some stupid wrist band declaring her over eighteen but to young to drink so she would not be served alcohol. She honestly did not care about that, and was here for one reason. She grabbed Jack's hand, dragging him through the strip club towards the back where she knew would be "private" rooms and pulled one up and closed it. They would be alone in here, and nobody would bother them. There was only one chair, and she ignored that leaving it for Jack as she went in the corner and pulled of her backpack and sat down. Reaching in to her bag, she pulled out the old ancient book she had come in to possession of and caressed it softly for a second before unclasping the straps upon it and laying it upon her lap.
"Alright, give me a minute to look through here. I have some...personal stuff in here I do not want you to see so...I am gonna look through it first till I find what we are looking for. Ok?"

Jack followed the young woman through the street. Looking around, he couldn't help be feel somewhat anxious with how silent and empty things had become. As if the beast from earlier had scared everyone away and they'd locked themselves up in their homes, hiding under the covers waiting to wake up as if from an unfortunate nightmare. Well, they wouldn't, he knew. More than likely they would simply pass the thing off as fanciful imagination, that the creature they'd seen had merely been a wolf or a particularly large dog, maybe even a pack of such things!
The young man was torn away from his musings when he noticed their apparent destination. A strip club! Jack's face flushed immediately. "D-Does it have to be here?" He managed to stutter out. The young man wasn't too particularly fond of such establishments. He found them depressing and the people inside quite rude. After the bouncer checked his id, Jack followed Nyght inside. Of course, no restrictions had been placed on him. He was fond of his freedom and the advanced age on his fake id supported that.
Even though he attempted not to, Jack couldn't help but see. The young man was too curious not too look. Even though he wasn't all that interested in naked women, he still couldn't help but feel a bit nervous in the place. After following Nyght into the private room, the young man looked around, avoiding the lone chair. There wasn't much of interest but he had to do something to occupy himself while Nyght sorted through her precious book.

Nyght looked at Jack and grinned, sensing his discomfort and find it slightly amusing. She nodded at the dark other end of the rooma and grinned at him. "If you want to, why not pay for a stripper to give you a private show. Would keep you...entertained for a while until I find what we need." She chuckled softly, half joking and half being serious and slightly curious to see what Jack would do. If he would really go along with that idea or pass upon it. Either way, she would not pay any attention to the stripper if he did, because she had research to do.
Nyght opened her book, and slowly began to turn pages, glancing over each one for a moment before moving to the next page. She was skimming, looking for something that could help them. She paused at one page, then shook her head and turned another. This went on for several minutes, before she suddenly gasped and lifted the book up closer to her face and began examining it extremely intently.
"Jack, I think I found something. Something that might be useful to us and could be what we are dealing with. Come here..."
Nyght stood up and held the book open for him flat on her palms. She moved so he could see the page, upon which where several sketches of a strange wolf like creature, and flowing script beneath that.
"It says it is called an Akhult. Apparently, the Inuit believe it to be a orca spirit that takes a hybrid form between a orca and a wolf. They come on land, hunting both humans and animals. They hunt in packs, and often come during snow storms during which they can easily attack and disappear with out being seen. They can swim, and walk on land. There are also apparently three different types. A common, a diving, and a prime. The common ones are more land based, while the diving ones tend to attack from the water or up through the ice and are exellent swimmers. There is not much in here about the Prime, except that it is the leader of the pack and they are very rare."

The young man shook his head. Jack's days of strangling strippers were over. He looked at Nyght with disbelief, as if he couldn't imagine why she would've suggested such a thing. "Uh, n-no thanks. I'm not interested in something like that.." Jack's face flushed. A private show! His hands trembled at the thought. No, that wasn't a good idea at all.
While Nyght flipped throught the pages of her book, Jack stood on his hands. On occasion, the young man enjoyed the perspective. Focusing on keeping his balance certainly managed to distract him from the wait. He nearly tipped over when Nyght gasped but he managed to keep his balance.
"Whatcha find? Also maybe..." Jack asked while moving over to the woman, the last part intended as an unspoken request for here to tilt the book upside down if she expected him to read it. Weird wolf creature. An Akhlut. From what Nyght described to him, it sounded like something straight out of a scary bedtime story one would expect to hear as a child.
"That's the creature that attacked the horse? You want to hunt a pack of these.. Akhlut?"
She obligingly flipped the book upside down for Jack to see the page about the akhult, though the flowing script was in ancient Latin and he probably would not be able to read it. She even sometimes had issues reading it, and she had been raised up reading and speaking the language. It was, after all, the basis of her magic spells and through the utterance of the spells in Latin she began each of her spells then through hand gestures she directed them in different ways to do what she needed to do.
Continuing to hold the book upside down for the hand standing Jack she nodded her head slowly. "I think it would be best if we fought these creatures, Jack. After all, who else would be able to stop these creatures. From the sounds of it, the horse is just the beginning of this. Pack creatures like to set up territories where they can hunt and live. If this is the beginning of that here, these people could be in serious danger. Although I honestly do not care about them myself, I do care about them finding out all about the magical world and community. We should...convince these creatures this is a bad area to set up their territory."

Once Nyght flipped the book upside down, Jack was relieved to see that the gibberish had become a much more legible gibberish. he didn't speak latin. Who even did in this day of age? If he felt like taking a few minutes, the young man probably could've figured it out, being familiar enough with the language and it's bastard offspring, but that would've been pointless with Nyght right there to tell him what it said. At least the picture was kinda cool. Grotesque, but cool.
Jack sighed. She was right, of course. Something needed to be done about the beasties and it looked like no one else was around to deal with them. The young man wanted to do nothing more than to flee from Alaska's ridiculous weather and chill out on his couch some more, but he knew he had a responsibility to help.
"Fine, fine. You're right. I guess I don't mind bleeding a little sense into these creatures. They certainly deserve it, jeopardizing the balance like they have. When do we leave?"
Post by Nyghtingale on Nov 3, 2015 21:11:33 GMT -5
Nyght frowned, looking at Jack as he mentioned something about balance and maintaining it. She did not really care about balance and maintaining it, she simply wanted to keep the world safe enough for her and her friends to survive in these hard times. However she simply shrugged her shoulders and pulled her book back, closing it and walking over to her backpack and sliding it inside.
"We can leave whenever you want. However I was thinking we should come up with some sort of plan, because wandering around outside randomly or waiting for a blizzard to come along and trying to find these creatures in such does not sound extremely appealing to me, to be honest. Maybe there is some way we could lure them out, or drive them out. It seems like a better idea to get them away from the sea, at least a little ways which will cut off one of their escape routes. What do you think, Jack? I not really good on the whole planning and doing stuff frontier. I am much more of the smash and bash kinda girl!" She grinned, looking at Jack as she pulled her backpack on to her shoulders.

Jack shrugged. Or, at least, he tried to. The whole shrugging motion was a bit awkward, being up side down in a handstand like he was. "Does your book say anything about how to bait these things? I'm not much of a hunter, myself. My knowledge of wildlife isn't exactly what one would call expansive."
Scratching his chin, the young man tried to think of some possible way that they could lure the Akhlut things away from the water. "They probably have to hunt like everyday. What if we set up a horse near where the last attack was? It that one comes back maybe we can trap it. Wound it. Then take it to somewhere away from the water in the wilderness. Maybe it's pack would come looking for it and then we'd have them all!"
He finally let himself fall to the floor with a sigh. Jack climbed to his feet and picked up his things.

She thought about it for a moment, then shrugged and nodded. She supposed that was better then nothing, and it sounded like it might just worked. So she was not against the idea of using the another creature as bait to try and lure the creatures out however she had heavy doubts about their ability to successfully subdue, capture, and detain one of these creatures alive to draw out the others of it's kind in the area. They simply did not know the full capabilities of these creatures and what they where capable of completely.
"I dunno, Jack. I bet we could fight one off, maybe even a pack of them, but I am not so sure about subduing one and capturing it to keep it tied up long enough in one place to draw the others out. Perhaps we do that plan, and simply try to draw all of them out at once on to shore? We could use more bait then a single horse, maybe a horse and...goats or something? Then whatever they are will all have to come out to snag more at once and disappear as is their style. Just...another theory and option. I do not think I am very good at these things."
She grimaced, shaking her head. Her plan sounded pretty stupid even to herself. How would she manage to get a bunch of goats or anything else then get them all in to one area and to stay there in that place until the creatures came?

"The shore would be pretty close to the water. What's to stop them from retreating back into it's icy depths the second they realize they've blundered into our trap? We wouldn't be able to follow and, assuming they're at least moderately intelligent, the creatures most likely wouldn't fall for such a trap a second time. Also, I don't know where to get a bunch of goats... One horse we could probably steal without too much trouble." Jack shrugged chewing his gum thoughtfully.
"We could bury some chains or something and, once the lone Ak takes the bait, wrap it up. Might not hold it forever but I'm sure we could drum up some animal tranquilizers around here somewhere. The chains would buy us the time we'd need to knock it out for a bit. To be honest, I'm more worried about the transpo... We'd have to steal a truck or something to carry it off."
The young man scratched his chin, brow furrowed with thought. "If we do your plan, how are we to keep the Ak from just diving back into the water once they're out?"
Nyght contemplated Jack's word, rubbing her chin and sighed deeply her shoulder heaving up then back down. She finally nodded her head as she saw what Jack was meaning and she was agreeing with him. His idea was decent, even though he had not finished the thought with no transportation. She continued rubbing her chin, and finally spoke again.
"Alright, that is a pretty good idea. The only problem is that I do not have any money what so ever. So obviously I can not buy anything such as these chains or anything. However, I could use my abilities to manipulate metal so we could go to a scrap yard somewhere and I could fashion the chains out. The only way to really get all those chains out there would be a vehicle of some kind or another. However, once we are out there, we I could use those abilities again to actually capture the creature and stun it. So the only problem will be moving it and getting a vehicle."
She reached up, tossling her hair and winked at Jack. She opened the door, stepping out with her backpack and grinned as she walked out the door, pretending like she had had a good time and moved towards the door and left the strip club not even looking at the girls around them.

The young man laughed. "Money! Who needs money when you can teleport into a store, grab what you want, and 'port back out an instant later?" Jack rarely ever paid for anything that cost more fifty dollars or so. He didn't carry very much cash on his person and wasn't exactly employed. It was much easier for him to simply grab the stuff he needed, sometimes returning it later or paying for it once he had the money.
"Course, if you're too chicken we could always just got to the scrapyard like you said and make our own."
Jack scrambled to pick up his things and follow Nyght out of the strip club, only giving the strippers a passing glance or two. "I don't s'pose you know how to steal a truck or something? If not, I guess we could always stop one that's in transit to borrow it for a little while... Ya know, just until we're done with it. Then we'd totally return it."
Post by Nyghtingale on Nov 4, 2015 14:25:01 GMT -5
Nyght looked at Jack after they had gotten outside and widened both her eyes, gazing at him in slight bewilderment. Jack was talking about stealing not just some chains out of a store, but also a vehicle from somebody. She stopped walking, turning towards him and crossing her arms over her chest. She sighed, shaking her head and frowning at Jack.
"I would be willing to steal some chains from a store, because most people can afford to loose some of those. Hell, we might have better luck stealing them from the military base from one of their hangers or something. However I am not going to steal somebody's vehicle who does not deserve to have that happen to them. Imagine somebody coming up and stealing something from you that you really need. Like...to get to a job? Or a girlfriend? No...I am not stealing a vehicle. You can if you want...but I am washing my hands of this and you will lie to me and tell me you borrowed it with permission."
She was very stern upon this, resolute upon this feeling. Despite being homeless for such a long time, she had never stolen anything from somebody she was absolutely sure would not need that. She had only taken cloths from people who very obviously had plenty of other clothing to replace that one, and food from places such as restaurants and stuff when she could not find any anywhere else because she was sure restaurants where over charging people anyways and they would not miss a single meal here or there.

The young man tilted his head slightly to the side, confused by the strange look Nyght was giving him. Like he'd suggested they murder ever baby in the town and construct their infant corpses into a sled with which to drag the Akhlut. That wasn't what he'd said, was it? No, Jack wasn't crazy. His propsition had seemed perfectly reasonable to him.
"Well it's not like we won't return the truck when we're done. We'd only need it for like a day or two. Besides, I somehow feel that stopping a bunch of murderous supernatural creatures from revealing their existence to and murdering people is just a teensy bit more important than some dude maybe missing a date or a job interview."
Jack sighed and shrugged. He wasn't comfortable lying to Nyght. At least, not when he didn't have to.
"You can be in charge of grabbing the transpo' then and I'll get the chains. That way you'll know it will have been obtained as morally as can possibly be."
