Nysans are a very primitive people. They have their own language, however it is fairly basic. Due to this, Nysa and Nysan refer to many things. Nysa is the name of the Goddess, the planet, and the continent on which the fauns, weavers and chlorai live. Nysan can refer to a native of the planet, but is more often used as a native of the continent, and can also indicate the name of the language, Nysan, or the religion of the Goddess Nysa.
Nysan Religion is highly devout. It is practiced mostly by the Chlorai, however it is common for others to worship it. However, not all Nysans follow this religion. Some value other concepts higher than they do the idea of Life and Light. They have never had a name or face to these concepts, until the portals to Earth mysteriously appeared, where some have learned about other Gods such as Erlang, Varos, and Somnus.
The species of the continent of Nysa remain mostly in the same locations, as it is the type of landscape best suited for their species’ survival. Due to such, there are different dialects of Nysan, however any local can usually understand another, albeit a few words are different. However, during the summer months, species will often gather together in the plains, trading goods for the winter. Weavers provide strong silks, Chlorai provide vegetables and fruit, the fauns make wine, and the Anubis gather stones from the desert. Some of all species, except the weavers, will gather things like salt and fish from the ocean.
Weavers live in caves at the Caspariak Mountains. They often live alone, or a mother with her many young. They build silk nests, and are relatively unsocial. Their culture is therefore very limited. The only thing that distinguishes it is the unique silk weavings, and the softer dialect.
Anubis are nomads in the Desolate Lands, which are the deserts of Nysa. They are the only species whom can survive a long period of time in such a climate, which protects them from a multitude of dangerous beasts as found in the other spheres of Nysa. They sleep under the stars, having no need for shelter as it rarely rains.
The Anubis guard a pyramid within the Desolate Lands that contains a portal that leads to Egypt, on Earth. It is considered the safest portal to travel through, as it always leads to the same location. It is recommended to travel here to go to Earth, however it is far in the desert, and can be a perilous journey. The Anubis are a highly religious species, as many who travelled to Earth would return with tales of Deities and great buildings.
The Chlora live in the jungles of Nysa, as it provides camouflage to their unique bodies. Chlorai are, like the Anubis, highly religious, but most tend to worship the Goddess Nysa. They live off the jungle, and rarely eat meat, as they can coax plants to grow the food they need. Still, they know how to defend themselves, as there are many beasts who prey on them.
Chlora often live in very small villages. They make small living homes out of the plants, blending in to avoid predators. Large villages are considered dangerous, and often each household will only live with their direct family. Chlora will gather for religious ceremonies, where they sing and drink Faun wine, however they must always be cautious, and Chlora enjoy the sacred duty of guarding a festival.
Fauns live in the plains, where they hunt less dangerous creatures and run from those who pose a threat. Some faun have magical abilities to Call on Beasts, and it is considered a honor, a blessing from Nysa to know such magic. Those that do will have small herds, raising whatever beasts they have control over to support the community. Fauns live in old ruins that are very similar to Mayan styled ruins, and rarely build their own homes. Due to this, there could be several families in a large ruin, leading to a very community-centric lifestyle, where wine making is very popular. Some live in the forests of Nysa, the northern tundra and eastern desert, in very roughly constructed villages. These are at strategic points for harvesting food, fishing, or other things, but are much more dangerous to live in.
One of the Mayan temples is forbidden to live in, for it contains a portal to Earth. Unlike the portal in the desert, it does not lead to a specific location. Most Earth portals lead to this portal, but leaving through it could place you anywhere on Earth. This is very dangerous, as some of Earth’s portals lay in perilous locations such as the bottom of Mariana’s Trench.
As mentioned in the geography section, there is the continent of Zezura to the South of Nysa. It is desert land, and so has not been explored despite its proximity, as Nysans have a day to day lifestyle for the sake of survival.
The continent to the West of Nysa is considered too dangerous to explore, and is called the Land of Great Beasts.
