Scholars of Serapis History A centaur, a human and a reaper walk into a bar. The Academy was founded in Agartha by a commendable centaur archivist, a learned reaper and healer with a prestigious athenaeum in 915 AD. It started as a small, invite-only repository of historical data, and by the beginning of the Italian renaissance it maintained a school and a distinguished reputation. It was only in the late nineteenth century that The Academy itself became public, the archives and laboratories continuing to be in secrecy in the core of Agartha. Purpose To further the pursuit of knowledge. To build a lasting relationship between supernaturals and humans. To study supernatural creatures, and learn more to benefit all races. Requirements None. Ranks One Leader: Sage One Sub-Leader: Second Sage Three Elders: Guardian - Protector specialty may be begun. Trusteds: Professor - Researcher & Instructor specialty may be begun. Senior Members: Scholar Members: Novice - First level specialties may be begun. Specializations The Academy created "Specializations" which are particular learning courses to help students be highly efficient in whatever it is they seek to function as. It is voluntary, but also a requirement for one to become a Magister, Protector or Historian. There are two levels of specialization. The first level of Specializations include two types: Erudite and Emissary. Erudite: Those in the faction with a dedication to the academia. They are the common type of student, the ones found in libraries and labs, focused on knowledge. Emissary: Those in the faction with a dedication to research and gaining new knowledge. They tend to assist Researchers and go out into the field, make new discoveries. The second level of Specialization include three types: Magisters, Historians, and Protectors. Those in the second level gain access to a trial. Magister: Those in the faction with a dedication to passing along knowledge to the next generation. Their particular skill places them in a category of teaching (i.e. combat, history, supernatural abilities), but with a focus on the academia thread section. Magisters can open testing threads (with approval of faction leader), which must meet the school alumni requirement. Researchers: Those in the faction with a dedication to learning more about their field. They gain full access to the library, can lead field missions, laboratory experiments and testing threads. Researchers tend to have a very particular area specialization, such as medical, robotics, archaeology, etc. in which they try to find new knowledge. Protector: Those in the faction with a dedication of not only protecting the secrecy of the faction, but everyone within it; they also dedicate themselves to bettering the factions' members and being present in events to be another eye of judgement. This specialization is reserved for Guardian and Sage ranks only. Researchers or Magisters who wish to become a protector must forsake their name and pass challenge thread to be deemed able by the sage. Trials There are two types of trials that those in the Academy can face. When a Novice graduates into a Scholar, they must undertake a trial. The trial will be determined by the Sage, and run by anyone whom is a Professor or higher rank. The trials differ based on whether the scholar is an emissary or an erudite. As such, the prizes will also differ. The prize is chosen by the Sage, but is one of the following: Erudite: Animal familiar: The animal will be mentally bonded to the Erudite, and as such possess a greater intelligence then most animals. Scroll of power: A random magical ability is given to the Erudite, no matter their race. However, the ability must be something deemed useful to the pursuit of knowledge Pendant of aptitude: The wearer gains a +5 stat boost, in a single stat of their choice (the stat may not be later changed). This also increases the maximum of their stat by 5. Emissary: Endless satchel: A magical satchel that allows the storage of an infinite number of items, making them completely weightless. It is limited to whatever may fit through the opening. Vishnu's Arms: Allows the emissary to have an extra set of arms. These arms are magical, and not truly connected to the body, so they do not feel pain. They are controlled by the caster's mind. Aegis: A one time use protective item. When activated, it will shield it's owner from something that would otherwise kill them, and whisk them away to a safe location. When a Professor becomes a Guardian, they may either continue to pursue their current specialization, or forsake it to become a Protector. To become a Protector, they must pass a trial. To commemorate their success, Protectors are given a single item, chosen by the Sage. Horoplegia: a small hourglass on a bronze chain that slows those around you substantially for five minutes; the user is not effected by the change. Ephemera: a small, tear-drop fragment of iridescent diamond connected to an unbreakable silver chain; when held against your heart it grants you a skin shield of diamondlike quality for five minutes, much tougher then the ability Harden. Agony's chakram: a circular throwing blade that, when hit, considerably increases the pain of the wound for twenty minutes; the chakram always comes back to the owner. |
