0. How do stats/stat based abilities work?
By far, the most common question. A lot of people tend to get really confused at first.
Now, the first difference is, are you a human race, or a supernatural race?
Humans can learn Human Only Abilities, and receive Stat Based abilities and Stats at a cheaper price then Supernaturals. Supernaturals can, however, learn Magical Abilities (like pyromania).
Stat based abilities require you have a certain amount of stats. Like, Flexibility requires 10 agility. That means you need to get to 10 agility before you can buy Flexibility. For a human, the cost of Flexibility is 30 points, while for a Supernatural it is 50. This doesn't include the price of getting to 10 agility.
To get stats, you can buy or earn them.
Humans pay 5 points for stats.
Supernaturals pay 10 points per stat.
There is a max to how much you can buy, please view the Stat Page for that.
Everyone gets a free stat with every ten posts they make. You can earn up to 50 free stat points.
Now, how does one get points to buy stats? You get 200 points upon creating your character, which can be used to buy stats, stat based abilities, and magical abilities. You also get a point with every post you make.
If you still have questions, don't be shy, and contact Varos Talantos.
1. Where do I post my application?
Answer: You post your character application in the same board you get the template from. Just click "New Thread" in the incubator section, make the subject your character's name and a God(dess) will get to it as soon as possible.
2. Are innate abilities those that are mentioned as 'Default abilities' like that of the Angel's? Or are abilities like 'increased strength' in the race description also count as 'innate'?
Answer: Innate abilities are the special abilities (such as Flight/Wings or Shapeshift) that can be found in the Compendium of Abilities. Most supernatural beings are understood to be stronger and faster then humans, the exact numbers can be found by reading more about Stats.
3. Do innate abilities deduct from the initial 200 points for the ability?
Answer: No, they are free and do not affect the initial 200 points in any fashion.
4. Is Amplify Emotions/Frenzy resistible?
Answer:They can be resisted with a certain level of intelligence.
5. Can Supernaturals learn the abilities listed under Human Abilities?
Answer: No. Although a supernatural can have some Stat-Based Abilities, they may not have Human Only Abilities. This is to give Humans an advantage, as they don't naturally have cool powers.
6. Can shapeshift, tattoist or any other ability of a similar nature allow extinct creatures?
Answer: No, we do not allow extinct creatures. However if you are roleplaying in the past section and the creature is not extinct, it's free game.
7. Does one who uses Fire Control create the flames with their mind or through some other means? Can a Pyromania user change or affect the color of their flames?
Answer: Fire Control requires a source, but Pyromania allows one to create fire in a telepathic fashion. Also, yes, a user of Pyromania can choose the color of the fire as desired (though this will not affect the fire's properties).
8. Is it possible to resist hypnotic slumber or do you fall asleep no matter what?
Answer: If Hypnotic Slumber is used on another, you must get them to look at you without break for seven seconds. As this will not be easy, the victim of the ability will not realize it is occurring. So no, it's not technically possible to resist it, but it's hard to fall victim to it if you don't maintain eye contact with others for extended periods of time.
9. Is it possible to break through an Illusion?
Answer: It is possible to break through. Illusion is less powerful and it only affects one's vision (leaving touch, taste, smell, and hearing unaltered). Scene, however, affects all senses except for taste and smell. For Scene to be broken, one would need to first recognize that the smells are not as they should be and then focus on the inconsistencies, identifying the smells properly to force one's mind to see past the lie it's been given. Illusion is easier to break through (obviously) and is more case specific.
10. If one was Mesmerized could they break it through sheer force of will or any other means?
Answer: No. Only pain inflicted by another (more than a pinch or some such thing) could bring one out of their hypnotized state.
11. Does Mesmerize mean you can control the character? Or are they just dazed?
Answer: They are dazed, and will not move unless awoken. However, you can leave suggestions in their head, which they will not remember you doing, and, thinking it's their own thoughts, may perform them afterwards.
12. I noticed that Morph and Shapeshift are the same yet without the "similar size" attachment. Does this mean that morph allows one to assume the shape of any creature no matter its size?
Answer: You read correctly. One with Morph can change shape into any creature no matter it's size IF it is an actual thing in our real world or a playable supernatural race. Forms such as a Dragon and Sphinx (among others) are forbidden to shift into. Dragons must pay extra points per ability, and to be able to shapeshift into one would remove that barrier. Sphinxes are unlocked as a race only through a quest, and again, shifting into such a form would remove the barrier.
13. Is there a way to resist being slowed?
Answer: No.
14. Do you actually have to mimic something else when using Morph or could you attachments to ones body such as wings or even armoured scales?
Answer: One may not shift only certain limbs or create any hybrid between creatures of any kind. You must be a creature or object found in the real world or an accepted species on Distension and must have your entire body shifted into a singular form. For example, you may be human, then shift into a tiger, but you may not be human with only the claws of a tiger or any other combination between the two. One or the other. One exception could be seen, if one were to acquire BOTH the Shapeshift and the Flight/Wings ability they could grow wings without transforming into the shape of an Angel or a Daemon– but only in their true form.
15. When you use Shapeshift to turn into a supernatural being do you get their powers?
Answer: No. Shapeshift merely allows one to take on the physical form of something else, not the knowledge or abilities. This also means that one who has become a wolf would not be able to communicate with other wolves, or humans. They would possess the wolf's vocal cords, inhibiting speech, but would have no knowledge of exactly how wolves communicate. A werewolf though, as he is born as an actual wolf, can communicate with other wolves.
16. Is location information (such as the Khyper-Diorem and the Fortress at the Edge of the Void) common to all Supernaturals, or will my character have to do some digging?
Answer: Actually, the Khyper-Diorem and Fortress and so forth are completely unknown to mortals at this time (save for those that have gone into the KD. Until you have roleplayed with them or a God(dess) and been told in character about the location, there is no way to know of the Khyper-Diorem's existence.
17. Does a character have to worship a God/Goddess to use Hysteria since it says in the description "Disease varies by God/Goddess"?
Answer: One must serve a God or Goddess for Hysteria to work, yes.
18. Are creatures such as Reapers and Daemons knowledgeable to the location of the Underworld? Can they be made, or are they only born?
Answer: No, in Distension, there is no Underworld, Heaven or Hell. Angels and Daemons are born on earth, as well as Reapers and all others of that genre. Reapers were not once humans, but rather are born as a skeleton and are completely living. Daemons cannot be born out of spiritual possession, like a Reaper they are born into their species. Only Vampyres may be turned from other species.
19. Are you LBGQ friendly?
Answer: This is a surprisingly common question. Yes, we are completely open and friendly to any sexualities, transgenders, binaries, etc.
20. Can I use an ability in a creative manner, even if it works like another ability?
Answer: Although we encourage creativity, any ability may not be used to replicate the effects of another ability
21. Do I have to worship a Distension God to buy Prayer abilities?
Answer: Every ability that is classified as a prayer requires one to have a patron God/Goddess unless it was granted as a natural ability. Many people have been trying to bypass this rule by not worshiping any specific deity and purchasing these powers. That will not be tolerated.
22. Can Water Control be used for bloodbending?
Answer: No. Water control may not be used to control the blood within a living being. Blood bending is simply too overpowered.
23. Can a human with Bioengineering give things like wings, gills, or other extra limbs to someone?
Answer: Yes, but you must complete the proper research. View the research section for more detail.
24. Can my human become a vampyre, werebeast or a draconian?
Answer: Yes. Draconians, Humans, and Changelings may become vampyres or werebeasts if the proper thread is established. (Read the vampyres' and werebeasts' page for more information). Humans and Changelings may also transition into Draconians, but must PM Varos Talantos beforehand.
25. Can I kill other people's characters?
Answer: Yes. Your character can be killed without your permission. However, if a character is in a fight to the death with another, please notify a staff member so we can make sure things are fair.
26. Can I have an exotic pet, like a panther?
Answer: No exotic or overpowered pets (such as a panther) as it takes away from the bonuses of the ability "Beast Call". Any exotic pets may be accepted if there is a valid and very good explanation, but it must be approved beforehand by a God.
27. When I phase, can I phase with stuff? Other people?
Answer: When one phases, all items fall from the person's body. Clothes, held items, etc. One may not phase with another person.
28. Can I give my quest rewards to another character?
Answer: Yes. Quest items can be transferred, but not to your own characters. PM a Staff member for details.
29. When I shapeshift into someone else, do I get their voice? If I become an animal, can I communicate with other animals?
Answer: When you shapeshift, your voice remains the same as your original form. You are merely imitating a creature, not becoming and, as as such if you wish to change your voice, you require Voice Trick. Becoming an animal gives you their vocal cords, but you do not possess the knowledge to communicate with other animals. This does not apply to werebeasts, who truly become the animal, and so may therefore make the animal's noises naturally.
30. When I shapeshift, what happens to my stuff?
Answer: When one shapeshifts, their clothing and items do not adjust. Clothing either becomes tighter, looser, falls off, etc.
31. Can I use the Tattoist ability to gain a dragon or sphinx?
Answer: Tattoos such as a Dragon and Sphinx are forbidden to manifest under any tier of the Tattoist ability. The reasoning for such is the same as that for the Shapeshift ability.
