His large head whipped to the side with incredible speed, his gaze now staring heavily upon the turned demon. The low grumble in his belly returned, and his wide, golden eyes seemed to burn with the same fire that was about to spew from his lips. A thick, black smoke started to leek from his nostrils and the thin parting of his lips.
Beklea... he said toward her, his voice, at the moment surprisingly gentle. The calm before the storm, most likely. She knew that a rage hotter than his own breath was starting to kindle within. Behind me.
The woman did as she was told, far too frightened to do anything else, and she certainly didn't want a repeat of New York. She slowly shuffled her way until she was directly behind her dragon.
Brutus stood completely still, his eyes trained on the demon's figure. He did not move forward, he did not charge and attack... he didn't even blink. He did, however, increase the volume of his growling. It soon turned into an ear splitting roar, his jaws parting only slightly in order to let the sound escape him. To all other observers, he stood frozen like a statue...
To Solemn, however... the sight was much different.
Wings outspread, fire licked and crawled at his scaled lips, and smoke rose in a billowing pillar from his parted jaws. His body began to grow double in size, orange flames darted out along his skin, and the earth around his body began to crack and crumble away, leaving behind a giant fissure between the demon and giant dragon. The fire dancing along his legs began to catch onto the grass, crackling and popping as it began to spread. Soon, a wall of flame circled around Solemn like a living, twitching cage.
Brutus' mouth opened to emit a terrifying roar, and the nearby trees trembled with it's force. His large claws stepped forward, his eyes catching flame just like the rest of his body, and his lips parted to reveal giant, sharp teeth. An oozing, black liquid dripped from his maw and into the scorched earth, and once the substance came into contact with the burnt grass, it, like the fire, began to spread. The black tar looking liquid began to seep it's way into the ground and it crawled, like a living substance, around the giant fissure and toward the demon.
Solemn was the only one that saw this scene, Solemn was the only one that witnessed the false destruction upon the land, and Solemn was the only one that didn't see Brutus slowly inch his way around the demon, until he was positioned directly behind. Beklea followed, making sure to stay back with her dragon like she was instructed. To Solemn, Brutus would still be standing in front, completely engulfed in flames and prowling forward.
