The daemoness pinched the bridge of her nose again and shut her eyes. How did she always get into these messes... At length she let out a sigh and chuckled, though more about the situation she found herself in than anything directly relating to the individual across from her. "Your offer of... assistance is... touching, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn down the offer. I generally work alone for one, and I can handle myself. Dislike does not equate to inability to handle oneself. "
"As for your truck... Learning how to take care of it doesn't start with tearing apart it's engine and transmission. Oil changes, battery changes, spark plugs, belts, tires, brakes. That's how normal people start. They start small and work their way up to major overhauls. That's what I'd honestly recommend too." She pulled her hand back and ran it over her face before sighing again. "What exactly are you looking for? It'd probably be far easier to explain or... do something about if I knew what you're trying to accomplish. Watching me tear apart a machine at my own pace isn't going to do much for you, and no offense... but I'm not going to explain everything I do while I'm working on an engine. I've got patience, but I'm not a masochist."
Finally she looked over at the bar and then gave the man an incredulous gaze before hoisting up the bottle of water he had given her earlier. Despite the hour of driving it was still unopened and ready to go. "You already got me one. I'm good for now... but thanks anyway."

Adam sighs and slumps slightly in defeat momentarily as he positions himself back up. "Well... one.. I want it spruced up regardless... secondly, you're making it very difficult to hit on you... finally I don't need everything explained... I catch on pretty quick..." he rubs the back of his head. "I'm more interested in the assembling of it more than the functionality at the moment.... I can easily learn how it works later...." He doesn't sound arrogant or boastful, simply informative.
Adam opens his truck door and grabs a small flask from the driver side door. Taking a large swig he leans back against the beast. "Being frank here... I first just wanted an excuse to talk to you..." He shrugs as he takes a swig. "But figured.. hey, if she's that skilled... maybe she could help me out.... Now, I'm just practicing my social skills since you've stated they're... odd... I never asked to be king..." he smiles softly as he takes another swig. "you could say I was born into it..." he seems to be entertaining himself. Even if she wasn't having fun, he seemed to enjoy the interaction, especially the expressions she gives him.

The daemoness gave the man a quizzical look. "You want to know how it's all put together before you understand how it works? That's kinda reverse logic. And no one's that quick that they can catch on from watching one person, who mind you is quite familiar with the workings of engines, assembling an engine at their own pace. It's especially difficult when you take into consideration that different people are going to do things differently. Hell even the same person may not work an engine the same way twice. Lets not even mention all the things that could go wrong, all the things that need changed. Knowing how it works effects how it's assembled. It affects why things are the way they are. No two engines are ever the exact same, even in the same model series. It's just how it is. And that's just the mechanics of it. Let's not even get started on the fact that I can only tolerate so much in the way of people, and waiting for you to come over to the work area every time... and no. Before you suggest staying over. No. Not happening."
The fiendling shook her head firmly. "Starting off with a random person working at full speed on a complex engine build isn't a good place to start. Even if this was a V4 engine without a supercharger, being put inside some piece of crap car, that's a complex task. This one? We're talking a V8 specifically built for multiport injection and a supercharger. Cold air intake... A nightmare build. Then the transmission....I just don't see the practicality in it. Maybe if you started off watching videos or reading about engine theory, you might stand a chance... but a dry build? That's just insane."
She seemed to be completely ignoring the comment he made about hitting on her. Instead she was breaking down all the reasons why his request was more than a bit unreasonable. "I'm willing to do the work for the pay... but I'm neither qualified, or of the mind to have someone inexperienced sat in there all the time. I'm just not into it, sorry. Pointers I can give... I can direct you to some sources... but I'm not the best with others constantly in my workspace. Hell I barely tolerated the seldom help I got on my car, and that was from a friend I had known for years...."

Adam seems observant, not complaining but observant, fulling taking in the languages of her answer. He seems to be slightly proud with himself as he nods to her explanation. "Understood... I'll start reading while you work on the truck." He says with a big grin. He moves his hands behind his neck as he seems to unclasp a necklace. "And you said you wanted guarantee that I'll pay you... This is my collateral...." he extends a silver locket to her. "If you have to wonder why I would think this would cover as collateral for something so costly... Just open it...." The locket is amazingly hand crafted and very intricate but the inside holds it's real treasure. A picture of the man's family, he is almost a spitting image of his father, something to Adam that had unimaginable worth.
While Adam seems to be blabbering like an idiot, he has been testing the deamon's character. He trusts her, for better or worse, and he is willing to bet that she will provide to be a wonderful ally. If she believes them to be or not, He has plans in mind and the wheels have begun to turn. He can't help but crack a small smirk toward the daemon.

The daemoness sighed at length. "Fine fine. I'll try to see if I can't find any proper engine service manuals on the engine type as well... Any questions you have after I'll try to answer so long as their not excessive." She trailed off as he pulled out the locket. She reached out with a gloved hand and took the locket, wrapping her hand completely around it till she had drawn it back towards herself. At that point she opened her hand and looked down at the locket before looking back up at the man. Her fingers wrapped around the locket again and she slid her hand under that cloak and slid the locket into one of her numerous side pockets. She didn't need to open it to have a hunch what was inside it. It was something close to him and he was a sentimental man. At least, he wanted her to believe that much if anything. Still, it would be enough for now.
"Very well, mister....?" She dragged out the word mister as she looked at him questioningly, obviously asking for his name. She would wait for but a few seconds to see if he would answer or not. Regardless of whether he did or not, she would then continue on. "I guess we have an agreement. I upgrade your ride, you pay me for parts and labor." The daemoness reached into her pocket and pulled out a small notebook and a pen. She quickly opened it up to a blank page and jotted down an address. Amusingly the location was actually bordering the previously mentioned Montana. It was a location in southern North Dakota, not too far from it's capital. Afterward she tore the paper out and and held it out towards the man. "I have a garage there. Deliver your truck when you're ready and I'll begin work." If he'd reach out for it, she would snag it back unless he was quicker than her. "You still haven't told me if you want a manual or an automatic. Also... Four wheel drive is extra.. less it already has it."
Afterward she would hold it back out again with a smirk.

Adam smiles brightly for a moment before he places the back of his right hand on the center of his back with his left palm matching the spot on his chest. He bows slightly to the daemoness as he tilts his head up, His eyes matching hers. "Adam Alexander Helviath.... Hunter and your disposal M'lady."
Obviously this kind of display mighty get a reaction out of her but regardless he will take the piece of paper from her, or attempt to on the first go. Even if he is faster than her, He does not know, he will let her pull it away. Enjoying the playfulness of the exchange he takes it and looks it over. A short but painful lump enters his throat as he notices the location was somewhat close to where he liberated the truck. Regardless he swallow the past and stood up ready to move forward. Adam had a bit of jobs and ATMs to take care of if he was to make this happen. As he looks over the piece of paper he looks back up at her with a smile. "Oh and thank you... I appreciate the books and I won't be a bother..." he smiles at her as he puts the paper in his jacket. "Oh... and Unless you'd be willing to teach me stick.... I'll have to go with Automatic." he suddenly looks sheepish. One would wonder where the hell this man's father was that he knows nothing about cars or how to drive stick. He rubs the back of his head as he closes his eyes and forces a sort of shame filled laugh.

The woman perked a brow at the way he introduced himself, but as mentioned, continued on with her statement. She made sure to file the name away for later. She hadn't quite decided whether or not she would take the time to look the man's name up to see if anything would show up. She might, she might not. For now it was just another piece of useful information. If nothing else it gave her a name with the face, and something to ask for if she for some strange reason needed to find him.
She then made a note to find a few service manuals. Those would be difficult, especially if she built the engine from the ground up. The overall concepts would be the same, but the details would change depending on what she put in it. She was fairly certain she would go with a GM engine. Her initial thoughts were probably a three-eighty-three if the space was limited. Otherwise she would likely scale it up to a five-oh-two. The rear-end would likely be gotten from Ford. Rear differentials and axles were one thing Ford managed to get right in her opinion.
Rennia snapped out of her thought induced coma and looked back at the man as he mentioned learning a manual. "Automatic it is. Probably better for a truck anyway." She paused for a moment after saying that and seemed to dive back down into thought for a moment before nodding. "Doable."

Adam Nods as he loses his smile and looks around. "So... What do you want to do... if you got places to be I'll let ya go... I'll head up to your shop....or...." he looks back. "You can join me for an evening and we can go in there and have fun... or maybe cruise down the high way...." His gaze returns forward as he leans in. He moves inches from her face if she lets him His bright blue eyes locking with hers. "What do you want to do luv?" His expression is cold and slightly forced. While his face is distant from emotion, his eyes betray him. They scream out with pain, anger, desire, and slight hunger. The human seems to be using all of his will to keep himself restrained and a gentleman. A very faint twitch on the side of his mouth along with a low grinding of his teeth can be heard. While he may be the -king- of awkward statements, He seems to bell versed in self control as well. The night is starting to approach as a few more cars and trucks start to pour in. Adam has seemed to take a liking to this daemon and he doesn't even know what to think of it.

Rennia chuckled softly and shook her head. "I'm afraid that I can't be at it all night. I do have places to go, things to do." Her brow hiked up yet again as he inched forward and the other soon joined it after his next question.
The daemoness turned and took a few steps around the far side of her car. "What do I want to do? Now that's a loaded question. There's so many things I would like to do. Not so many of them are applicable or indeed recommended. Like going all out on the highway. I can do that... but it's generally illegal. Reasonable, but I think I've done enough that I deserve a break. I've never put anyone at risk with it either. Yes yes I know that's no excuse. Still going to the track isn't as fun." The woman sighed to herself.
"I also like reading. Reading however tends to be a solo activity. I suppose there's watching movies, but as I said, don't really have all night, and I don't particularly think there are any particular movies out there that I haven't seen yet that I want to. I went the other night after all."
The woman seemed completely oblivious to the man's antics, lost in her own world. She looked over her car and pulled out a clean cloth and began running it along the side of the car, cleaning off a smudge that had formed on the body.

Adam seems frustrated and at the same time relieved, While he has gained interest in the little deamoness, he finds himself fighting the thoughts of slaying the woman and taking damnation by the throat. He has encountered rare jewels before that cause his loins to flutter yet this one boarders more on the line if intrigue and heartstrings. He would be a liar to himself if he denied the fact that the idea of liberating the deamoness from the restraints of her jacket would not be enjoyable yet he digressed.
"Wh-why not... hmmm... What do you like to eat?" He seems to be thinking of more direct questions. Regardless of her answer he continues. "I want to feed you....er... with food..." He folds his arms as he leans against his truck, He seems to try and keep a serious face like this is no big deal to him. While he enjoys women, he has not had much experience talking to intelligent women. A life of night clubs and hunting has left his social skills toward those seemingly smarter than him at a disadvantage.

The woman looked up as he spoke again, taking her eyes off her car. Her pretty, red, gorgeous, amazing car. Why not...? What do I like to eat? Well preferably things that are edible to be honest. You know, food. The sort of things they sell in stores and serve at restaurants. Why? What do you like to eat? Something besides food maybe? Though that begs the question of if certain things should still be considered food. I guess if you can eat them and manage to survive off them it could technically be considered food in some sense. Though I swear if you say you eat people... this conversation will end so fast."
The daemoness then paused and blinked. She just blinked as she stared at the man. Did he just say that? I'm pretty sure he just said that. He said he wants to feed me. No that's not weird at all, Rennia. I mean it is rather cute that he's stumbling over his words like that, but really? The woman's mind raced with those thoughts as she leaned her head forward and squinted at the man for a moment. He's totally attracted to you. Not that it's obvious or anything, right?
After a moment she let off her squint and pulled her head back. Underneath that hood she gave an amused smirk. "You want to feed me huh? ... Are you... always this awkward around women, or am I just lucky?" She waited a brief moment for a reply from the man before continuing, whether or not she got one. "At any rate, didn't I tell you before that you couldn't afford it? Hell you're having trouble affording your ride. Now you're trying to take me out to dinner? I think you should really consider stopping while you've got everything sorted...."
Post by Adam Alexander Helviath on Aug 12, 2013 16:06:12 GMT -5
Adam smiled softly and rubbed the back of his his head with a chuckle. "You're beautiful... what can I say... but mainly you're very smart...." He lifts his head and looks off to the right toward the woods. "In all honesty.... I'm fine with wracking up a tab with you..." he looks back at her with a coy smile.
"It means I'll be able to learn more about you...." He laughs as he closes his eyes and finishes rubbing his head. He slowly opens his eyes and brings his hand down to meet his other as they cross against his chest. He relaxes as he continues to lean against his car. Looking out the other way he continues his statement. "...I'm asking you out on a date..." he looks back with a smirk.
"Think of it... a socially awkward vampire hunter and a beautiful deamoness gearhead...... we could write a sitcom." His playful tone has returned as his face erupts in a large smile. Whatever confidence he seems to have mustered up is either real, or he's just very courageous. At this point in life he's ready to die any day now, why not try to live life to the fullest.

The fact that the man was crushing on her was not exactly surprising to her, but she still couldn't help but perk her brows as he said it never-the-less. The woman crossed her arms and let out a soft, amused chuckle as he managed to finish. "Your flattery is, amusing, endearing even. Though you could never quite afford it, like I said. There's more than a couple reasons behind that."
"For starters, there's very little for you to learn about me. Secondly even what little there might be to know about me, probably wouldn't reassure you in the slightest. In fact it would probably be counterproductive to your interests. Thirdly... I don't do social events. Well.. I prefer not to. I dread going to gatherings of any sort unless it's work. Having to mingle with people in close quarters... " The woman shuddered at the end of a slight pause. "I like to get to know people on my terms, not be forced to interact with them, even if it's to tell them to pike off."
"Lastly... Again your flattery is touching, though I'm afraid I'd make for poor subject matter. I might seem interesting, but after a while I do tend to get... How should I say it... old... flat... That's the joy of being anti-social. No, I'm not looking to change either. I like being anti-social." Okay some of it was a twist on the truth, though it wasn't an outright direct lie, and none of it would really conflict with how she had been this entire meeting. The truth was just slightly more grey than black and white as she had portrayed it.

Adam laughs a little. "If you don't want to.. you could always just say no." He winks at her as he pushes off of the truck and begins to walk around her car slowly. He speaks calmly without emotion at first. "Those are excuses and not reasons.... First off... just from that statement I learn a lot about you... you seemingly don't realize just how much I can learn about you... AND how much I would enjoy it... There is more to learn about a person than past and present... Finally..."
He points up as he walks behind the woman, or at least not walking between her and the car. " Food can come in marvelous things called doggie bags and such... food does not have to be at the location. I, in fact, also hate crowds but I tolerate it enough to get things done when I have to... so food can easily be taken from one spot and eaten under the stars..." he turns around and points at her. "Actually that is what I had in mind... I enjoy the night sky..." he turns back around and finishes walking around her car. He stops as he makes it back to his door.
"Even if you're not human... everyone feels..." He makes quotation marks as he speaks the next word. "Human." he opens his door and looks in pausing. "Don't think so low of yourself that you believe you get flat or old...." he turns to look at her. ".... I won't try to change you... I just offer someone to hate crowds with." He would turn back toward his truck.

The daemoness sighed softly and chuckled yet again, this one was more to herself than anything. The man was determined that was for sure. It was almost a bit disappointing to the woman. Sure she was apathetic, but that didn't mean she wanted to go around kicking sand in everyone's face. She had tried to gently discourage him but it didn't appear that would work.
For the first time the daemoness finally lowered her hood in front of the man. She didn't particularly care if he could have seen her before or not, but right now she was dipping her toes into a personal matter, and thus her code dictated that remove said hood. As she did she looked downward towards her hands which she began to play with. As he continued to talk, Rennia slowly tugged off the gloves she had worn. The gloves themselves were unique in the fact that the appeared to be cloth based gloves that had reinforced padding along the palm and the front and back of every digit... save the index finger.
She gently set the gloves on top of her car and began playing with her hands again. Finally after listening to him, she would speak up. "Maybe they are excuses, but they're the truth. Sure I could say that I'm not interested, but that wouldn't the entire truth either. Perhaps I merely decided that instead of being a cold bitch and telling you to pike off, I decided to be somewhat less direct and try and gently push you away. But, if you want the straight truth..."
The woman trailed off before she brought her left hand up and glided it over to the gloves sat onto before gently bringing it back down. As she drew her hand away, a small object was left in it's wake. If he focused on the object he would notice that it was a small circular object. It wouldn't take a genius to figure out that it was indeed a ring that had been on her finger. Unlike most rings it was not silver or gold. It was black as night, yet polished. It was clearly some form of metal, though it had been polished to an almost glassy finish. There was no sign of corrosion to be had on it either. Sat in it's center was another unusual sight. It wasn't a diamond, but rather a gem almost akin to a ruby, except that it gave off a faint light of it's own.
Rennia offered a smile, but it was a forced, vacant one. "That's the truth." She trailed off in silence for a moment before speaking up again. " I don't think low of myself. I just know what I show. Inside I am me, and I like me. But that doesn't mean I want everyone to know me. In my world Mister Helvaith... knowledge is a weapon that cannot be taken back once it is given."
