Warren Read
theme song:;
description:;
Warren Read is a tall and well built individual with dark brown eyes and dark brown hair kept in a strange mix of dreadlocks and braids. Similarly two braids extend down from his beard. Throughout his mess of hair, random trinkets and beads that may have at one point been worth an utter fortune, dangle loosely, swaying about with simple movement. Unless engaged in conversation (And even then sometimes) his face is kept expressionless in such a way as to give him a somewhat intimidating appearance. Those eyes actively scan the horizon and give off and air of appraisal whenever they fall over an individual or potential object of exploit. Something about the man screams danger and yet.. at times, one cannot help but find a comedic sense about the man when witnessing his actions or listening to him speak.

A standard pair of pants with multiple belts as well as a pair of leather boots accompany with. To complete the look, he often dons a basic Tricorne cap atop of a Bandana wrapped over the top of his head.

Dread Pirate Read is the captain of the Fortunate One (U.S.S. Liberty) which was one of the first Colonial First Rates (and one of it's largest) to ever be made. Since leaving Colonial service, it has had it's hull painted gold and has had it's sails dyed black. The massive ship was originally armed with 140 32 pound naval guns, but has since received an overhaul. While it's gun count has been reduced somewhat, the overall effect of it's broadside has increased in both weight and power. Today this ship sports an array of modern howitzers and modified Naval artillery and mortars.

background:;
Born in Colonial America shortly before the golden age of piracy, Warren Read was the son of an American Naval officer who served in the Royal Navy. As a result, the boy spent most of his childhood life living alone with his mother. When his father WAS around it meant training to use a Cutlass and flintlock firearms. Despite how seldom his father was around, Read enjoyed the time he was allowed to spend with him, even if it was filled with the harsh lessons a sailor would teach. When his father wasn't around, Read spent time doing what other 'priveleged' kids of the time did, which was attending what passed as school, and playing around-- When he wasn't doing chores of course.
As Read got older, his father began taking him along on shorter voyages aboard the vessel on which he was stationed. As sailing ships often did not have room to accompany dead weight, this meant that Read would have to pull his weight in order to remain. Read began to learn the ins and outs of naval vessels in short order, doing everything from attending the rigging, to swabbing the deck, to loading cannons. With his education, he was also called upon to assist in navigation of the vessel which gained him notice of the Royal Navy captain, which had been what his father had hoped for.
Warren Read was soon called upon to join the Royal Navy, much to his mother's displeasure. However, while she disliked it, she made no move to object to it, believing the choice was solely Read's to make. Read, wanting to follow in the footsteps of the man he admired, hesitantly signed up into the Royal Navy and was soon made an officer on board a frigate. During his time aboard the frigate, he saw many battles. Some of these conflicts were between sovereign nations, others were skirmishes with pirate vessels. This was where he first encountered the true situation surrounding piracy. He found that many pirate legends told by people often missed key important facts, and that pirates were not as bloodthirsty and diabolical as people made them out to be all the time.
During one of the battles, A British Admiral's ship was damaged to the point that it struck it's colors. Being the closest ship, the captain of Read's ship ordered the ship be pulled along side the damaged flagship, and lines be secured to bring survivors on board. Amongst the survivors was the admiral himself, leaving behind his damaged ship. After breaking away from the ship, which was soon skuttled when it had it's power load ignited, the Read's ship rejoined the battle that was taking place. Taking over command of the ship, the admiral took notice of how well the crew responded to Read's caluclated and sound commands, resulting in quick action times, and superior maneuvering around enemy vessels. Impressed with his ability to coordinate and command, the admiral appealed to the naval board to have Read be given command of his own ship.
Two years later Warren Read was promoted to captain and given a ship of the line. The multi-decked heavy frigate would continue to see action during the course of Read's naval career. However, by this time Read was already becoming disillusioned with the way in which the Royal Navy operated, and the mistreatment of it's enlisted men which often brought about the mutinies that turned sailors to piracy. This was further compounded by the realization that the world wasn't as it appeared. During his engagements, Read had seen things that phyics and science could not explain. He had seen beings conjure and throw fire, shoot lightning from their fingertips, or even magically disappear and reappear elsewhere. The final straw would eventually be the execution of his father at the hands of the Royal Navy. Enraged by the news, Read severed his allegience to the Crown. Expecting his crew to seize him for treason, he was pleasantly shocked to find that not one crew member, including the Royal Navy officers, objected to this turn of events, and joined him in his rebellion. Without ties to the Crown, Read turned to piracy, raiding primarily
British vessels for supplies and currency in which to obtain what they could not through raiding. During his time as a pirate, Read would discover more about the world they lived in, and how some were treated poorly due to what they were capable of. He also would end up learning about those responsible for the death of his father. Read decided set out to turn the fight against those who had wronged him. Several years he would be dragged into an event known to most as the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials sparked a massive conflict that raged across more than just the country, and pitted the faithful against the non-faithful. During this 'war', Read
pledged his ship to aiding the survivors of the tragedy and defending those who supported them. Upon one of these battles Read entered a lightly defended naval port. Or so it had at first appeared. Once he was fully inside the port, Read encountered a Britsh navy ship of the line commanded by none other than the Admiral who had ordered the execution of his father. Warren brought his ship in for the first attack, peppering the British ship with the full weight of his broadside. Reeling from the attack, the British counterfire was underwhelming. Many cannons did not fire either because their crew were killed or injured from the initial attack, or were too traumatized from the onslaught to act. Many of the rounds that were shot also ended up simply bouncing off the hull of the American Frigate, or embedding into it without passing through. Read brought his ship around for another broadside upon the same side of the British Vessel, and this time ordered the ships secured for boarding. Expecting the maneuver, the British crew were prepared for the invasion, and attempted to fight off the attackers. Meanwhile the British Admiral unexpectantly jumped over onto Read's vessel to face the captain one on one.
Caught by surprise, Read had barely enough time to draw his cutlass before being attacked by the Admiral. The admiral's swings were impossibly brutal, and Read quickly decided that his only option would be to attempt to avoid the strikes rather than counter them. As the blade cut through the air, it sliced through the wood of the ship with impposible ease. Read soon realized he was facing not only a supernatural, but a god. The god refrained from being too overt in front of the British and Read's crew, likely to hide his identity, but Read was not fooled. As they faught, the british crew had begun cutting the ropes connecting the ships, attempting to break free from the vessel in hopes to change the tide of battle. However, the two ships remained locked together as the two naval captains dueled it out. Read realized that the fight was an impossible one to win, but understood that giving up wasn't an option here. He would either die surrendering, or die fighting. Being a man of his word, Read chose the latter.
Suddenly a barrel of gunpowder exploded upon one of the gundecks of the British Vessel. The ensuing explosion was enough to snap the two ships apart with violent force. Between the sudden explosion and being tossed about, the British captain became distracted and looked away just in time for Read to draw his pistol. The captain looked back a brief fraction of a second after the hammer fell and ignited the powder. As fast as the god was, he the short distance between them failed to allow the divine being the time to slow it down entirely and the round pierced through the god. The weapon, which one of the survivors had enchanted for him, as a favor for his assistance in the war, created a wound in which the god could not endure. The being shattered in a dazzling display of light to the amazement of the entire crew. That light turned on Read and engulfed him. It's energy coursed through him and empowered him before suddenly vanishing as quickly as it came. While the crew stood bewildered, Read understood what had happened, even if by all rights it shouldn't have. Read could not explain his luck.. which was further compounded when the British ship exploded after breaking away, but at the time he decided he would not question it.
Read ordered his ship into the harbor and took on the escaping refugees before retreating to an unknown location to off-load them. That was the last confirmed sighting of Warren Read. To this day, rumor and legend persist of further encounters with the mysterious pirate, but no story ever truly matched, nor could anyone verify the stories and so they were written down as merely myth and superstition. Throughout history, the true fate of Dread Pirate Read would remain a mystery.
