I recently completed the Scrolls of Alexandria quest with Chaltah and I almost have the 150 posts required to create a sphinx character. My questions are to help me get a general understanding of what I'd like my character to be like, physically and such.
When you complete the Hunting the Sphinx quest, you get an eye or tongue of the sphinx that allows you open a portal to Shangri-La. My question is, do sphinx inherently possess the ability to open a portal to Shangri-La? If they do, then does that mean a sphinx character could do so? On the character race page it did not say they could or couldn't, so I'm asking, just to be sure.
Also, what are the average dimensions of a sphinx? Like height and length, that sort of thing. Also, what is their average weight, to go along with average height and such. Do males and females of the species differ in any way, physically? For example, is one gender generally smaller than the other? Do sphinx possess a unique language only known by sphinx, gods, etc. like dragons have a unique language?
Would shapeshift level 1 be enough for a sphinx to shift into a human form of similar size, or would they need level 2? What is meant by similar size? Does that mean that a, say, 7 ft tall supernatural could shift into a 5 ft tall human or smaller? What are the exact limitations?
Can the innate ability flight/wings be used to fly without using wings, maybe while shapeshifted into a creature that does not have wings, like a human?
Also, in the Scrolls of Alexandria quest, are you creating a sphinx, or releasing one from imprisonment or something? I'm asking this to know what age to use for my character, when I make it.
I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

Worships Balance
Varos has a very symmetrical look, giving her a strange, unearthly beauty. Her favorite form has grey eyes and red hair. She usually seems quite calm, with the shadow of a smile on her lips and a hint of a frown around her eyes.

Yes, Sphinxes may travel at will to the K-D, but they may not bring others with them.
Sphinxes are roughly the size of a lion, if not a bit larger. Some famous sphinxes were gigantic, however for the sake of keeping things relatively close to each other we are not allowing that for character applications. Females are slightly smaller. Wingspan is usually about the length of the body. Females tend to be a bit smaller, but not by much. Again, refer generally to male and female lions.
Sphinxes do not have a unique language.
Sphinxes would need level 2 to become human. Level one is for creatures of similar physical shapes to you. (So a lion would be fine at level one for a sphinx, but not a human. An Anubis- which is roughly the size and shape of a human- could easily shift into a human at level one but not a dog). A 7 foot tall supernatural would shift into approximately a 7 foot tall human if they only have level 1. Large height differences would need level two.
We try to keep creatures with wings requiring wings. However some angels are born without wings and can still fly. Technically you can, but it would be much more difficult to manage/control as a sphinx would be accustomed to wings.
You are creating a sphinx. The sphinx you create has nothing to do with the sphinx you meet in Scrolls of Alexandria. However, if you really want, the Sphinx you encounter could be the Sphinx you create- you simply must abide by our age rules.
