HOME | PLOT | ADVERTISE & AFFILIATEThe OthersWe are the things you see out of the corner of your eye. There are a few less of us than mythology might have you believing, but we’re numerous. Vampires, wereanimals, witches, shapeshifters, and gifted all exist. Our powers come from a shadowy realm called the Twilight - a grey, shadowy realm where humans can’t see us and we can use our powers freely. We’re born with Other potential, and our genetics are Other, but our powers are only unlocked once we enter the Twilight. The WatchesThe Watches have run our society for centuries. Back in ancient times there were just feuding clans. It was a free-for-all and some of us were even considered gods and goddesses. Up through the early Roman ages some of us were still playing deities, but by the middle ages the Watches had us under control. All Others are required to register with a Watch, even if it’s just a name on a list and no further involvement. Most of us are in that boat – only 10% of us or so are actually active in the Watches. There's the Night Watch, which professes to be the good guys. Protecting the innocent, not using powers for wrongdoing, that sort of thing. They’re our version of the supernatural police and mostly they are the good guys, but don't let it fool you. They can be ruthless when need arises, especially in protecting our secret. On the other hand is the Day Watch, which is the antithesis of all the Night Watch stands for. They think that Others should be free to use their abilities however they want, and if that means killing, cheating, or stealing then so be it. Many in the active ranks also have the notion that humans are lesser beings and are involved in all sorts of unsavory businesses. Black market dealings, drug cartels, you name it and they've probably got fingers in it. The PresentNeither Watch has ever gotten along with each other, but ever since the industrial age in the 1800’s there has been a truce of sorts. Neither may openly war against the other, though in secret that is a different story. That truce has been steady breaking down in the past decade. Nothing that could openly be considered breaking the truce, but a definite uptick in one-on-one fights between agents and a hidden agenda that only the top councils know about. Here in New Orleans we’re a major hub for the United States, and the fighting is worse here than in most other cities. Even more troubling are the recent rumors that the Day Watch has been researching ways to turn ordinary humans with no Other potential into Others. That should be impossible, but if it's true... it doesn't bode well.
