Quilbeasts Quilbeasts are fierce creatures covered in thin, barbed quills that secret a neurotoxin after making contact with a target. Quilbeasts can launch their quills from their bodies up to 20 feet away with accuracy and their quills also help them blend into the grasses of the plains. The four legs of a Quilbeast are strong and they can run steadily at 35 miles per hour (though they can sprint for a brief period of time at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour). Their skin is leathery and tough, able to withstand a normal bladed weapon with ease. Approximately the size of a lion, Quilbeasts have a large, thick maw with knife-like teeth on the outside for stripping off pieces of flesh and attacking prey while interior teeth alternate between fangs and molars good for chewing the tough meat they acquire. Their hearing is sensitive and in optimal conditions they can hear noises from up to two miles away clearly. When Quilbeasts hunt, they will stalk their prey through grass until they are literally upon them or until they are noticed by their prey, whichever comes first. When pursuing a creature for food, they will use their sharp dagger-like claws to give them extra speed and to cripple their food with a devastating slash to the ribs or head. Quilbeasts reproduce during December of every year, migrating to the Lake of the Khyper-Diorem for the entire month as they further the species. The rest of the year, they are solitary creatures that prefer to reap all the rewards of a kill rather than sharing with others and any creature that approaches one that is feasting will[/b] be attacked. They are not territorial and roam from place to place in search of new meat. They do not, however, approach the mountains and will stop a foot away from prey that is within their idea of the beginning of the mountains. Whether this is an acquired, passed on, or innate fear is unknown but all Quilbeasts share this fear of the mountains and will go to great lengths to avoid them.
