Sphinx Overview A noble and immortal species, Sphinx hold their heads high whether living in Shangri-La still or on Earth. Originally they were the guardians of Shangri-La, protecting its walls ferociously with amazing feats of acrobatics and deadly accurate blows and they are still able to travel to and from Shangri-La as they desire, always appearing outside the gates of Shangri-La. They are respected on the battlefield for this, but also for their strategic minds. The are as strong as a Minotaur, as quick and nimble as the Fae, and as wise as a Reaper. They are quite brilliant, being able to keep conversation with the most intelligent of beings. They can frustrate, though, as many of them tend to speak in riddles. Sphinxes age slowly, reaching full maturity at about 500 years of age. Sphinx are fiercely loyal to those they devote themselves to and those they come to call 'ndugu', or brother. NOTE: SPHINX ARE ONLY UNLOCKABLE BY COMPLETING THE QUEST 'SCROLLS OF ALEXANDRIA'. Innate Abilities Sphinxes can fly with 'Flight/Wings', as well as return to their home world whenever they wish with 'Khyper-Diorem Teleportation'. A Sphinx's gaze will 'Mesmerize' their foes. Scrolls of Alexandria The Great Library, as it was once called, was founded in Alexandria, Egypt during the Ptolemaic Dynasty. It was reportedly burned to the ground by Julius Caesar on accident during a campaign. The accumulated knowledge held within the walls of the Royal Library was vast and most of it was lost. However, select scrolls were saved and taken to a temple in the Serapeum district of Alexandria where a new collection of scrolls was maintained. One such was a scroll regarding the Sphinx and the sort of magic that was used in their creation. To replicate this magic, one must find the scroll in Alexandria and find a translator. After doing so, one would discover the components required are: a scarab beetle from an Egyptian tomb, a whole saffron crocus from Crete, an ounce of brine salt from the Dead Sea, and a piece of electrum ore taken from the bottom of Lake Victoria. Bringing these items together into a bowl and heating them to a melt will release the magic required to imbue one with the needed strength for bringing about a Sphinx.
