Limitations:
We don't expect you to memorize everything, but do use this as a reference when in doubt. These are general rules on how certain abilities, and other information, works here at Distension. These were often asked about in the questions section and have been formalized so that everyone knows the limitations in which the following holds.
Abilities
- Any ability may not be used to replicate the effects of another ability.
- Every ability that is classified as a prayer requires one to have a patron God/Goddess unless it was granted as a natural ability. Many people have been trying to bypass this rule by not worshiping any specific deity and purchasing these powers. That will not be tolerated.
- Water control may not be used to control the blood within a living being. Blood bending is simply too overpowered.
-Please view the FAQ for more on restrictions for abilities. Multiple common questions can be found there.
Age
- When creating a character, we have a maximum age cap of 500 years old. That's old enough to bring you to the late Renaissance. This rule does not apply in the Past section.
Humans and Hunters
- No wings, gills, or other extra limbs may be manufactured through the ability “Bioengineering” without the proper research. Not only would brain surgery be necessary to insert new nerves into the brain, and entirely new muscles grown on a human, and the fact that it would almost certainly be fatal; but it removes one of the major perks of being an angel or demon and can be considered extremely unfair to the eyes of certain members. To balance this out, the bioengineer will need a large number of research points do these levels of modifications. The same concept of research applies to "Engineering", and research is needed before anything too large or powerful is made (such as a mech suit, advanced mechanical limbs). For specific numbers, PM a Staff. These must be gathered in the research section.
-Humans may make the transition into Hunters if they PM Varos Talantos and provide a valid reason. Draconians, Humans, Hunters, and Changelings may become vampyres if the proper thread is established. (Read the vampyres' page for more information). Humans, Hunters, and Changelings may also transition into Draconians, but must PM Varos Talantos beforehand.
Killing
- Your character can be killed without your permission. However, if a character is in a fight to the death with another, please notify a staff member so we can make sure things are fair.
Pets
- No exotic or overpowered pets (such as a panther) as it takes away from the bonuses of the ability "Beast Call". Any exotic pets may be accepted if there is a valid and very good explanation, but it must be approved beforehand by a God.
Phasing
-When one phases, all items fall from the person's body. Clothes, held items, etc.
Quests
-Abandoning a quest will result in a penalty, to be determined by the Staff. Examples include a temporary ban on participating in quests, losing points, etc.
-If a quest is abandoned and the quest no longer meets the minimum requirement of characters, it can be completed with the number as long as at least two members remain, or a volunteer can join the quest.
-Quest items can be transferred, but not to your own characters. PM a Staff member for details.
Religion
-In regards to Religion, to keep it simple, only the ones specified on the Religion page are considered true. Your character may still believe otherwise. However, Hell and Heaven do not exist.
Shapeshifting
- One may not shift only certain limbs or create any hybrid between creatures of any kind. You must be a creature or object found in the real world or an accepted species on Distension (with exceptions found in the next rule)and must have your entire body shifted into a singular form. For example, you may be human, then shift into a tiger, but you may not be human with only the claws of a tiger or any other combination between the two. One or the other. One exception could be seen, if one were to acquire BOTH the Shapeshift and the Flight/Wings ability they could grow wings without transforming into the shape of an Angel or a Daemon– but only in their true form.
- Forms such as a Dragon and Sphinx (among others) are forbidden to shift into. Dragons must pay extra points per ability, and to be able to shapeshift into one would remove that barrier. Sphinxes are unlocked as a race only through a quest, and again, shifting into such a form would remove the barrier.
-When you shapeshift, your voice remains the same as your original form. You are merely imitating a creature, not becoming and, as as such if you wish to change your voice, you require Voice Trick. This does not apply to werebeasts, who truly become the animal, and so may therefore make the animal's noises naturally.
-When one shapeshifts, their clothing and items do not adjust. Clothing either becomes tighter, looser, falls off, etc.
Tattoist
-Tattoos such as a Dragon and Sphinx are forbidden to manifest under any tier of the Tattoist ability. The reasoning for such is the same as that for the Shapeshift ability.
