The water flowed, it’s trickling bubbling sound the only thing heard. It drowned out the rustling of leaves, the buzz of bugs, and the calls of birds. It was the Creuse river, a word non-French speakers never could seem to pronounce properly. Queren, who sat beside the running water with closed eyes, fondly recalled upon her childhood, playing next to the river with her little sister, sometimes reaching in to try and catch fish with her bare hands. She never did succeed, but once fell in. That was quite terrifying for the young Queren, but her mother had quickly gotten her out, and they had all headed home.
Laughing slightly at the image in her head, she shook it out and stood up, wiping the dirt from her jeans. Turning away from the river, she began to trek through the wildlife, carefully avoiding flowers, and weaving through trees. She had to visit the river briefly, a milestone place of her childhood, before heading to town. She planned on visiting her family today, and had driven out to Gargilesse-Dampierre, often just called Gargilesse by many. She had yet to reach the little town, famed to be one of the most beautiful places in France, but she was close. Very close, but had pulled over anyways just to see that lovely river.
Arriving back at the road, she climbed into her hybrid, starting up the engine, signalling, and going back onto the abandoned road. After a bit more driving, she pulled off into an almost unseen driveway, and drove the length of it, which was longer than most, almost a path on it’s own. After driving by the trees, she came across a small home, made of stone and wood, looking like a beautiful cottage-styled house. Pulling up close, she turned off her car and stepped out, taking a deep breath as her oddly-coloured eyes surveyed the place.
“Home.” She mumbled slightly, even though it was not quite true. She had not lived there in years, and now lived in Paris. But her house never quite felt like home, and only this small place could ever be applied to the word. Smiling, she took her turquoise hair out of her high ponytail, walking on stepping stones and heading for the door. She knocked, and heard some bustle and clamour inside, before the door opened. There stood a woman, who could easily have been an older version of Queren. The woman had the same turquoise hair, although a few strands of silver mixed in with it, giving it an even more unique appearance. She had the same eyes, but they seemed wiser, and were surrounded by more wrinkles. The woman smiled brightly, and without even saying a word wrapped Queren in a hug. “Allo maman,” Queren mumbled into the shorter woman’s head.
It didn’t take long for her mother to pull her inside. She was instantly greeted by her father, and her sister whom had just reached the teenage years. Both of them sported blue hair, instead of the green. Queren furrowed her brow though, as the table was set for four people. She turned to her mother, speaking to her in French. “What? I never told you I was coming.”

Evanesca circled slowly above the small wooden home far below her. She was excited, very excited. Yes she usually didn't enjoy other races, but she didn't see this Pi as another race. She was more a surrogate mother. This female had saved her egg from some horrible men and thus had given her the chance at a real life, and not only that but this female had also saved Adi's life and brought him to her. All these things combined made for this female to hold a place in her heart despite having only seen her once or twice in the entire eight years of her life.
She hoped the female recognized her after all this time. She had grown large and powerful, and was excited to show off her strength and power to her "mother". She circled a bit faster, preparing to land upon the grass behind the house. She knew that the Lady Arden was already expecting her and Adi, for her partner had called before hand a week before to set this all up. They they had flown across the ocean from America to France, and finally here. ------------------------------------------
Adikartika sat hunched over against the wind upon Evanesca's back. His sword was strapped upon his back and his pistol in its holster upon his hip. He was dressed in a long sleeve black shirt, with a black leather vest pulled over that. His hands where covered in there usual fingerless black leather gloves to improve his grip and also keep them warm. For once and extra advantage of them! He chuckled looking down and thanking the gods he wasn't afraid of heights.
He rubbed his arms a bit as Evanesca flared her wings back to land gently upon the grass. He patted her neck firmly, leaning down and whispering to her. "Your the greatest Eva." He kissed her neck and slid from her back, landing upon the ground and bending his knees to absorb the impact mostly. He straightened up and walked to the back door, raising his left fist and knocking firmly upon the wooden door.

Her mother both smiled and frowned. “Oh, non chouette, we were not expecting you. You need to call, let me know in advance. I only have one spare bed ready, and it isn’t for you petite.” This caused Queren to frown in return. At least her mother wasn’t doing some freak-ass scary psychic shit, predicting when Queren would come to visit, but this also meant she would be sharing her home- a place she rarely got to see- with a stranger. Now this wasn’t very good news in Queren’s mind, and already she was annoyed. Who was coming over, a friend or one of her parents? But then she would have to be polite, tending to their every need because of their old age. Perhaps a friend of her sister’s, or a new boyfriend? She hated that thought even more, not wanting to deal with two teenagers in one house. This simply wasn’t fair, she had wanted her family and her home to herself tonight, not have them all concentrated on some interrupting stranger!
Outside there was a strange sound, as if the wind were throwing itself around more brutally than before. Her mother was still smiling warmly, although it almost seemed to increase with the wind, until it suddenly stopped. There was a small pause, the room heavy with silence, before a firm knock sounded at their door. Before her mother could move, Queren rushed to the door, she wanted to see who was barging in on them- even though they had told of their coming and she hadn’t. She opened the door, and stood firmly in the doorway, not allowing entrance. She narrowed her eyes at the male standing there. Too young to be her parents friend, and too old to be her sister’s boyfriend, so why was he here. “Who are you and what do you want?”
A hand grabbed Queren’s arm, pulling her out of the way. “Queren, ne soyez pas si désagréable! ” Her mother scolded, moving her out of the way and holding the door open for the stranger. “Welcome Adikartika, come on in. Is Evanesca in the backyard?”

Adikartika blinked as the door was jerked promptly open, and a female was standing there. It was not Lady Arden, but a younger female who looked remarkably like her. It could only be a daughter, or maybe a sister but she seemed to young for that. He opened his mouth to speak, but the girl was pulled away and Lady Arden stepped in to view, speaking in french which Adi did not know but was apparently scolding the her daughter. However, when she spoke to Adi be beamed and stepped right in. He placed his right hand over his heart and nodded his head respectfully to her. "Thank you, Lady Arden. Very much. And yes, Evanesca is in the backyard. More then likely curled up and pestering some poor innocent creature."
He chuckled and took another step farther in to the home and looked at the other girl. His gaze traveled up and down her form, resting for a long time upon her hair and staring deep in to her eyes. He smiled at her and extended his hand, offering to shake her own. "Hello, Ma'am. My name is Adikartika Nightbane. It is a pleasure to make the acquaintance of such a lovely female. --------------- Evanesca was in fact doing no such thing. She had watched intently as the door before Adi was opened sharply, revealing a female that was unknown. Her lips pulled back instantly, revealing her razor sharp fangs her legs tensed, ready to pounced upon the stranger and rip her apart. However, the female vanished and was replaced with the fae Eva knew so well. Her snarl vanished, and her tail twitched from side to side happily. She moved closer towards the house.
As the three went inside, she curled as much as she could around the house. Her large head came to rest upon the ground, a single large black eye gazing in to the house through a window. She couldn't see much but a sitting room, but she also had a partial view of a fully set table for four beings. She settled down to wait and watch what was going to happen inside as much as she could despite her limited view. At least from here she could more then likely spot any trouble if it brewed and be able to leap to her weak human companion's aid if the need so arouse.

Queren rolled her eyes when this stranger came in, placing a hand over his heart and bowing his head to ‘Lady Arden’. Was this man stuck within the medieval ages or something? Who in the world still acted like that? It was messed up and totally weird. This was just great, she had to deal with some mental-ward guy for the entire night. And who was this Evanesca they were talking about? Why didn’t she simply come on in as well?
“Torturing creatures? Tabarnac, what the fuck is she? A sadist? If I find a bunch of dead rabbits on the lawn I will s-” She began, before her mother’s voice suddenly cut hers off. “Queren. Please be more polite. You are acting as old as your sister.” Except her mother was speaking in French once more, but her tone would still make it obvious to the stranger that she was being told off as if she were a mere child.
Queren’s face turned a shade more red than usual, both embarrassed and angry. She wanted to cut this stranger’s neck with her nails and leave him to bleed out on her doorstep or something of the likes. She saw his hand extended, and grudgingly took it, shaking it firmly and letting go before she did something stupid and dug her nails into his palm. She forced a smile, and spoke only the truth to him, as she could not do any other. Although it would have been easy to weave her words as to sound like a pleasant lie, she didn’t even want to bother. “Queren Arden. And, I don’t know if you can tell, but this isn’t exactly a pleasure for me-EE!”
The last part was a surprised shriek, as Queren’s green and yellow eyes had travelled over to the kitchen window, spotting a humongous eye staring through it. “Putin! What in the world is that?” She asked, freaking out slightly. Why was no one rushing out there, what in the world was that thing? Oh God, it was going to destroy their home, wasn’t it?

Adi watched the exchange between the two women, moving his head back and forth as they talked then looked at the youngest female as she spoke to him again. As she introduced herself, but her last words turned in to a shriek of terror. He looked at where she was staring and leap forward, between her and the window. "Hey! Its alright. Calm down, that is Evanesca. She is my dragon partner." He looked outside and gave Eva a thumbs up sign to show that everything was alright before turning back to Queren. "She is simply watching to make sure I stay safe." He leaned close, whispering to the mother and daughter, "She thinks whenever I am away from her I am in trouble and getting hurt for some reason." He rolled his eyes, chuckling and shaking his head leaning back. "We are inseparable. Like peanut butter and jelly." He chuckled softly. ---------------------------------------- Evanesca watched the strange exchange between the silly little beings. When Adikartika looked at her and gave her an okay sign she snuffed, sending smoke rolling from her mouth and nostrils skywards and blinked her large red eyelid then opened it again to view the inhabitants and their strange, human standards and customs. So much easier to be a dragoness. Doing whatever she wanted with nobody to tell her what to do. What weak pathetic creature would ever dream of even THINKING to tell her what to do? She would torch them in an instant and savor their crispy flesh afterwards.

It was a giant black eye, watching them as if a mighty god had decided to take interest in the lives of them mortals. It was damn right freaky, which is why Queren had screamed. She was ready to rummage through the cupboards for a knife (sometimes it was hard-pressed for Fae to get them, trying to find non-iron knives. They usually just bought those plastic chopping knives, which Queren had always found a pain to use.) But she realized Adikartika was talking to her, soothing words of comfort and reassurance. He was blocking her view from the window, and Queren noticed that even her mother was calm. In fact, she could almost swear she could hear her sister in another room, laughing.
So the mentioned Evanesca was a dragon? Why hadn’t she been informed their visitor would have a dragon? She had always known of the species, her mother swearing up and down they were real, and she had believed her merely because of the fact that it wasn’t as if she could lie. But Queren had never expected to see such a creature. How did her mother even know of a dragon rider? It was all just some sort of horrible fate. Sighing to herself, she turned around and headed for the kitchen. Once inside, she grabbed a single plate, along with a fork, knife, and a cup. Re-entering into the room, she set it down on the dining room table, filling it to seat five now, before finally turning her attention back to her mother and the guest. Well, the human guest, although her eyes kept flickering to the window to the dragon. She didn’t say a single word, but she was glaring, transmitting the message of ‘Eat than get the fuck out’.
Adikartika watched as the younger female set a fifth place out then proceeded to glare at him with an extremely hateful look. He blinked, not really sure how to take that and bit his lip thinking quickly. She obviously didn't want him here, and was upset about his intrusion. He glanced at Lady Arden and sighed shaking his head slowly. He glanced at Queren again then spoke softly. "Perhaps I should go. I was not aware that your daughter was going to be here and I don't want to take up precious time you could be otherwise spending upon her. After all, family is much more important." He smiled and nodded at Queren, trying to make her happy by offering to leave. It was abundantly clear she didn't want him here after all, and he only wish to make other people happy after all.
He blinked, then suddenly laughed out loud. "Oh yeah!! I forgot I have something for, Lady Arden!" He walked back outside, walking over to Evanesca and patting her side gently and digging in something reminiscent of a saddle bag upon her back. He pulled out a small box and then walked back inside, setting it upon the counter for them and chuckling. Inside was a set of knife for them. However, knowing they couldn't touch iron, and most steel contained a good amount of that, he had purchased for them a set of those fancy new ceramic blades that stayed sharper then metal anyways. However, they where much more fragile so they would have to be careful not to drop of bang them to much or they would crack and break. "Here you go! I thought about it when I was flying over London and bought them for you guys."

Queren watched silently as Adikartika apologized for even coming. She pursed her lips, furrowed her brow, and then proceeded to feel guilty. It slowly crept in, like venom. Here shewas, being self-absorbed yet again, and it seemed to modern world of air-headed models was getting to her. She sighed, wondering if he was some sort of mind-reader. Was it even possible for him to have such abilities? She knew little, next to nothing, about dragons and their riders. For all she knew, having a dragon could grant more power than that of which met the eye. Still, despite her conspiracy-styled thoughts, the guilt was still present.
Her mother was talking, telling the man that he shouldn’t go. She was even casting Queren angry glances, causing the woman to bite her lip a tad. Albeit fully grown, there was no wrath quite like a mother’s wrath. She gnawed on her lip for another moment, before finally speaking up. “No, you are a guest, and the table is already set. You might as well remain for a meal.”
She watched as he suddenly exited, quickly returning with a box. He offered it to her mother, whom smiled and took them, opening it. Queren’s interest had been peaked, and she watched as her mother opened the box and revealed… knives. For a moment Queren wondered if they were iron, if this man had been unaware. But she soon realized she could not see any metal upon the blade. It was quite odd.
“Why thank you Adikartika,” Her mother said, smiling. She closed the box. “It was kind of you to think of us.”
Queren couldn’t help it, a small grimace tugged down the corners of her lips. Why did he have to be so darned nice to her mother? It was hard to retain anger at this guest, especially considering he hadn’t voluntarily done anything wrong. She even wrinkled her nose a bit, before stepping towards them and gently taking the box from her mother’s hands. Her eyes raised from the box- which she intended to go put in the kitchen- to the man, “Thank you for the gift.”
Post by adikartika on Aug 18, 2012 12:11:54 GMT -5
Adi smiled, glad they had all liked the gift and let Queren take it from his hands. He bit his lip as well as her soft, smooth hand slid against his own and he shook his head to cover the slight rise of color to his cheeks from even that little bit of flesh upon flesh contact. He smiled warmly directly in to Queren's face, only inches from her and nodded before speaking softly. "You are exceedingly welcome, beautiful lady. If you insist upon staying, I shall be obliged. After all, who can deny the wonderful hospitality of two gorgeous women such as yourselves." ------------------------------ Outside Evanesca huffed, rolling her eyes at the little show going on through the window. It was like some sorta of stupid soap opera. Full of drama and stupidity. She glanced away, feeling her own first pangs of hunger as some of the food smells from inside wafted out around the window and touched her nostrils. She would hunt later, after this little 'show' was over. Returning her attention inside, her gaze settled upon the younger Arden family member. She was quite a pretty little thing, and despite Evanesca's youth she was much wiser then most already. She could already see a bit of attraction going on between Queren and Adikartika, on both sides. She sat, contemplating this for a while, trying to decide if this was good or bad. She was mildly jealous, but she knew that it was good for Adikartika to have some female companionship of his own race. ------------------------------------------ Adi inside filled a glass with water and set it down at a place near the end for himself, before pulling a seat at the head out for Lady Arden respectfully and helping her seat herself. Then he did the same for Queren, holding the chair out and waiting for her to seat herself upon it before helping to push her in gently. As he finished, he let his fingers trail slightly along her back before walking back to his own seat and sitting down and looking around at them smiling his warm, charming smiling.

Oh goodness. This boy certainly liked to lay it on thick, didn’t he? And yet it just seemed to come so naturally from him, as if he was used to spending his time with an egotistical woman who enjoys flattery. And, although she would never admit it and would weave her words around to appear differently, Queren certainly was an egotistical woman who enjoyed flattery. So she did take compliment at his words, although rolled her eyes as even she knew it was a tad much.
She watched as Adikartika pulled out one of the wooden chairs, aiding her mother sit. And, despite the fact that he was doing this, Queren didn’t even get to seat herself before the human popped up beside her to offer the same courtesy. She brushed off the trailing of his fingers as a mere accident, looking around the table. Her father and her sister came in and sat, and once everyone was around, Queren looked around the table. It was time for food.
Despite having just sat, Queren stood, informing the family that she would go fetch everything. She headed off to the kitchen, her turquoise hair swaying, as she started fetching the covered dishes of food to the table. It certainly smelt pretty good. She noticed an extremely large helping of meat set aside in it’s own dish and figured it was for the dragon, whom Queren had decided she would serve after getting everyone inside finished first.

Adi simply sat at the table, watching everybody prepare for their meal as they seated. He sipped upon his water, then turned and spoke to Mrs. Arden. "So Lady Arden, how have you been. It has been quite a while since I saw you last. What all has happened since we last spoke?" He would listen intently to her, also speaking to the father and sister occasionally, asking then how they where and how life was treating them. He was polite to them all in turn, but he really wanted to speak to this female, Queren. She seemed very interesting, as well as beautiful and attractive. He wondered what she did for a living, and where she lived. Obviously it was not here, but somewhere else as she was visiting just like himself.

Queren would come into the dining room, her hands filled with platters, to see her family enjoying a nice conversation with the stranger. Queren’s younger sister was staring at him with a look Queren recognized on the teenager’s face to be a ‘He’s cute!’ look. Queren rolled her eyes at that, setting down the platters and hearing her mother speak. Obviously she had just been asked a question by Adikartika, one Queren had not heard, but her mother was smiling all nicely and talking.
“Oh, I have been quite well, thank you Adi. But my life, it certainly hasn’t been all that interesting. I stay here in my home, and occasionally go to town. Routine and all. I think we would all be much more interested in hearing your stories. Have you seen all of the world yet? What have you been up to?”
Queren’s interest was peaked. And as she set the platters down on the table, her odd eyes instantly turned to Adikartika, wishing to hear his answer. Travelling the world? What a marvelous experience that would be. Queren was fine with her current life, but she did long to break out. So even stories of the world caught her ears. But, Queren still had to get the dragon it’s food and regretfully returned to the kitchen. She picked up the heavy platter full of meat, gasping slightly under the unexpected weight of it all. Hustling and managing, she headed towards the front door, her ears and attention still mostly focused on whatever the Draconian’s answer would be.
Post by adikartika on Oct 17, 2012 11:47:12 GMT -5
Adikartika smiled as they all seemed to accepted him almost immediately. Well, everybody except Queren that was who still seemed slightly annoyed he had stolen away from her special family time. However, he could understand how that would annoy somebody and he was indeed truly sorry about it. He wasn't some mean, home wrecker. He has simply wished to meet an old friend once again who had changed his life forever in the most amazing ways when she had saved his life as well as given him the amazing dragon outside when she hatched for him here in her own home. He watched as Queren brought in platters of food and set them down upon the table, wondering why slightly she was doing all this because she was at least some what of a guest even though it was her own home. When Lady Arden asked him a question, her glanced at her and smiled, shaking his head.
"Oh no Ma'am. I have yet to be ALL over the world, though I suppose I might be able to pull that off one day. I have been up to some pretty amazing things however. Helped in the hunting of several monsters, some even in this area. Other then that, it has mostly just been Evanesca and myself learning as much as we can about each other. There is so much to learn about a dragoness, especially when she makes it difficult." He laughed, but when Queren picked up a large platter of meat, he instantly leap from the table and opened the front door before taking it from her.
"A lady should never be required to carry such a heavy load when there is a man around to do such for her." He smiled at her. This was not chauvinism, but a simple politeness and respect. It was shown in the the way he had spoken as well. A lady should never be required....not that a lady couldn't. He would feel horrible if she hurt herself, for he was not yet proficient in the arts of healing, nor had Evanesca shown any ability to heal as of yet. He motioned for her to go first through the door then called over his shoulder. "Be right back guys."

Queren’s mother smiled kindly, yes, but she was somewhat annoyed. Her daughter- Queren herself- was being quite rude, and she did not enjoy it. Her daughter had always been a slight bit of a snob, and vain, and it was easy to make a bad impression on Queren which would cause her to cause a bad one in return. She sighed to herself, knowing her daughter wasn’t really like this all the time, but she felt guilty for having Adikartika having to deal with her. Queren truly was kind, doing everything whenever she visited. Despite the protests of her mother, Queren did everything when she came to visit, and her parents had long ago learned to just leave it be, having faught on the losing side against Queren’s determination. She smiled again to Adikartika when he spoke of what he had been doing.
Queren also listened with interest. While Queren had been stuck working in the human world to make her living, this stranger had been travelling with his dragon and hunting monsters? She had to admit that seemed amazing, although Queren had no idea how she would fare against some sort of monster. She had been told of them, her mother seemingly full of stories of the supernatural world, but Queren hadn’t come across any herself. In fact, Adikartika’s dragon is one of the most supernatural things she had come across, apart from being a Fae herself.
Staggering slightly under the large plate, mostly by the weight of all the meat, she headed for the door when suddenly Adi was in front of her, opening the door. She was about to say thank you, when he suddenly took the tray from her. He gave her a kind smile, saying "A lady should never be required to carry such a heavy load when there is a man around to do such for her."
Her face reddened, from a mixture of embarrassment and anger. She walked through the door and waited for Adi to walk though, before shutting the door behind him. “I was perfectly alright,” She grumbled. “But, I suppose… thank you.” She got out, letting out the truth- well, she could never say anything else, but trickery wasn’t the same as the truth. This was completely true, no tricks or anything. Her yellow-green eyes flickered upwards onto the big form of the dragon, widening slightly. She suddenly felt very nervous standing outside with all the meat. Would she be eaten as well?
