Ciriel wasn't as much of an expert in city life as Rae, so she found herself getting stuck between groups of people a number of times, trying to weave and duck as gracefully as her companion did as not to bump into anyone. Not only that, but the last thing she wanted was for someone to feel the wings hidden under her sweater, and realize the abnormality that lay underneath.
Perhaps she was a bit too paranoid, but she couldn't help but feel the need to be secretive, especially to the mortal races she encountered. She didn't wish to arouse any further suspicion that she needed to, and she didn't want to lose the chance at making friends. If anything, she wanted more chances to make friends. The problem lay with trust though, as she had seen the darkest parts of humanity, leaving her to wonder if they were really a race to be trusted.
Soon the Angel was led into Starbucks, and almost instantly the surroundings changed, as if she were in a new place all together. The strange smells seemed by inviting and familiar, as if they were a scent she could recall back in the jungle. People were sipping from strange cups, socializing, and even eating small strange sweet treats that Ciriel had never come across before. She didn't know why, but she had the urge to go and try one, if she had the money for such a thing of course.

“So whatcha having?” She asked the girl as they approached the counter and a young spotty kid looked back at them. At just eighteen, Rae was barely older than the kid the other side of the counter, but the two girls couldn’t have been further apart. The kid behind the counter had bright blonde hair, bleached, too much fake tan that had clearly brought her out in all sorts of spots and zits and was creamed in make-up to try and hide the blemishes on her once youthful skin. Rae on the other hand wore no make-up (it had all run down her face in the bathroom) and was blessed with beautiful features (even if she didn’t realise it herself).
Her eyes went to the girl beside her, then up to the menu. Thought she wasn’t sure why she was looking, she always had the same. “Can I get one mint and hazel mocha, thank you and a-“ Her eyes went back to Ciriel, smiling expectantly as she half rummaged through her bag for her purse.

Still taking in her new surroundings, she snapped to attention as Rae soon looked back at the girl. Her eyes then moved toward the menu, and almost right away she had a headache. So many choices, so many words, and none of them made sense to the foreign angel. To her they were all just words, none of them really meaning anything to her. But apparently to the rest of the building they did, and so she was rather clueless.
They were still waiting on her to make a decision though, so she tore her gaze from the menu back to Rae, and attempted a small smile. "...I'll just have the same." she responded, deciding that if what she chose was good, then it was probably worth trying. Or so she thought, never having drank a human beverage as intricate as what they were offering. No sooner did the words come from her mouth than a small flurry of activity follow behind the counter.
Ciriel poked her head out from behind Rae to watch as someone else (who seemed to be assigned to their order) begin to work behind different machines, all sorts of new smells wafting forth as small clouds of steam rise from the hot beverages. Despite their foreign appearance to the angel, they all looked quite appetizing. She just hoped that she made the right choice though. Even if she did not like what she drank, she would still do so anyways, to appease her new friend

The buzzing little bees of the Starbucks went to work on their orders; but Rae knew there was more to the girls order than first expected, there was too much uncertainty in her voice, too much hesitation in her mannerism. In fact, the girl seemed different than the rest of the hubble-bubble of New York, she seemed much more anxious than any of the other people here. Rae smiled, gently and glanced at the girl; “Never had coffee before, huh?” She asked, gently, a small tease in her voice that one might give to a girl-mate.
Then, her eyes went back to the two take-out cups that were placed on the counter. Rae paid for both, taking them and handing Ciriel hers. “Come on, let’s go out to the park, it’s much more pretty there- it’s only a few blocks walk- think you’ll be fine?”
For some reason she felt motherly of the girl, needing to look after her, when it was probably Rae who needed the most help in the world.

Ciriel shook her head as Rae questioned her experience with the beverage. It was the most obvious reason as to why she made the exact same order as the human, because she didn't know for herself what was good, and what wasnt. Or rather yet, what she would have liked. The angel was simple, used to the more basic things such as water and juice. Boy did she love juice, especially the sweetness of apple juice.
Carefully Ciriel took the cup that was offered to her, noticing the radiant warmth coming from the container. Whatever it was she ordered, it was quite warm. She soon found use for the beverage as they made their way outside, Rae re-announcing their supposed destination as they headed in its direction. Despite the nipping cold from the air around them, she found solace in the fact that the beverage was capable of warming her hands as she held it.
The walk toward the park was spent mostly by the angel trying to figure out the beverage she had, taking tiny sips of it from the small opening in the center. It was sweet, yet also bitter, It tasted a little like some of the beans she had tried when living in the jungles of South America. They were too bitter for her, but somehow the humans had found use in the beans to create a beverage.
Soon enough the park came into sight, and as they slipped away from the rest of the world into the greenery that it offered, Ciriel began to wander toward the trees, a patch of them in particular. Feeling more at ease, she finished the beverage she had been sipping the entire time, before crouching down. With a sudden spring, she landed in some of the branches of the closest tree with an accuracy and speed that was not entirely human, though she did not know that.

Rae just smiled at her, paid up and followed the girl back out of the bistro. Her coffee cup warmed her fingers and a jolt of life seemed to slip into her blood-stream via osmosis. The warmth on her skin made her feel much more positive, it made her feel a lot less low and sullen, the girl who had sunken to a self-harm cycle and made her feel like there was hope in her empty and isolated world once more. She brought it up to her lips, blowing through the little gap in the plastic lid and then, when it was cool enough, sipped it.
Shy as she was, she didn’t feel the need to make awkward conversation, but just walked beside Ciriel, often going a little in front to lead the girl towards the park and far away from the bubble of the man streets. Here Rae felt safer, she felt like she was in an entirely different world and it made her feel a straightforwardness that did not follow her through the city.
Rae finished her coffee and tossed the carton into one of the waste baskets, turning to talk to Ciriel to see her ‘fly’ up into a tree. Rae blinked. “Whoa-“ She frowned, what had she walked into now? Things were started to add up against this girl and Rae, without thinking, murmured; “you’re not human are you?”
She’d met enough supernatural creatures to know superhuman power when this stared her straight in the face. And here, alone in the park with this girl, she had to face this…whatever this might be and hope- just hope- it didn’t end up with her being dead.

Ciriel seem to enjoy herself the moment she landed on the branch, taking to hanging upside down, long hair dangling underneath of her as she looked at Rae in her little upside down world. Things seemed to turn south though as she heard the girl mumble something about her not being human.
It seemed as if her little secret could no longer be hidden, as sooner or later the girl called Rae would figure out what she was. Hopefully though there would be no negativity. Not all humans enjoyed such surprises, hence why she didn't strut around in the open, with her wings exposed.
Looking a little saddened by the sudden change of mood, she then proceeded to shrug off her sweater, deciding that the girl needed to know. Getting the tight uncomfortable clothes off, her soft feathery wings were exposed to the world, for the first time in what felt like forever. They were stuck in a partially folded position however, cramped from being stuck in the same position for many days. This became even more noticeable as the girl dropped from the ground, struggling to open up the appendages to catch her and allow for a soft landing. Instead she landed face-first into the ground, feathered limbs twitching with her face dug into the grass.

At first Rae had no idea what was going on, as the girl started stripping off she stepped back, her fingers curling into protective fists, something was about to happen that would not settle her mind. Rae had had several run ins with aggressive and unpredictable supernatural creatures, she was not prepared for another one of those run-ins. Stepping back as the girl seemed to fall out of the tree she watched for a long and cautious moment, assuring that this was no sort of trick.
When Rae’s mind was settled, she let out something of a little laugh, coming to the girls side and bending down. Wings….white, beautiful and feathered wings on the back of the beautiful blonde. She was like an angel…wait…no way?! Rae didn’t truly know what to think, could angels be real? Well…demons were at least…why not right?
She wet her lips for a moment; “Are you okay?” She asked quietly, placing her hand on the girls shoulder, delicately.

Ciriel was still stunned to some extent, though returned back to their world as she heard Rae's voice asking if she was okay. Slowly she sat up, pushing herself away from the ground with her hands, before moving into a sitting position. She looked over at the human before giving her a sheepish grin, rubbing the back of her head with a nod. Her face still hurt from the collision, but it did not compare to the discomfort of her cramped wings, which still refused to stretch open as she had hoped.
Never before had she kept them hidden for so long, part of the reason that they were so difficult to manage at the time she needed them. Of course rarely did she find herself having to actually need them, especially within human settlements as large as this one. It also meant that she would rarely have a chance to relax or stretch the appendages, to prevent another accident like the one she had just encountered.
"I'm okay... they just hurt is all." she explained to Rae, hoping that she wasn't too weirded out by the appendages. She didn't seem as defensive as she had been before showing them off, so whether or not she had a change of mind would hopefully reveal itself soon.

The girl gave a nod and an embarrassed-grin and Rae smiled, still crouched beside her. This was going to become an awkward situation; Rae could practically feel it vibrating through the air. If someone saw them together they would both be carted off to some sort of mad-house, she was sure. Fortunately, after a swift glance over each shoulder, Rae could not see anyone, they appeared to be off the path far enough to give them a little coverage. Next was the almighty question; would the girl harm Rae? Should she be kind to the girl…despite the ropey rapport they had created? There was only really one way to answer such question- and that, unfortunately, was to stick around and find out.
Rae wet her rosy lips and rose, straightening as the girl declared she was okay. “You’re not human, are you?” She found herself asking again, because she didn’t feel like she had a satisfying answer. There was a whole load of confusion in her mind and not a lot of clarity.

Continuing to rub her head, she looked up as the girl neared her, once again stating that she was not human. She wondered why she needed confirmation once more that this was not the case. Perhaps it was the shock of her reveal that bothered the girl. With a frown, the girl shook her head, to confirm the statement she had been posed with.
"...No...No I'm not." she replied, her tone lowered as she moved away from the girl. Suddenly she couldn't help but feel bothered, as if the fact that she was not human was not a good thing. After all, she did not seem to fit in this world, and she knew none of her own kind, as if she were the only one of her kind in this world.
"...I'm sorry." she whispered, and before Rae could react, the girl fled into the tree canopy once more. She was not sure if it was because of fear of being different or the inevitable truth of it. She would have to find a way to leave the city undetected, and it seemed without the clothing she had worn on her back, for the sweater that had concealed her wings still remained on the ground below her.

Rae watched her with well-placed curiosity and fright. So far non-humans tended to enjoy killing humans, it was a cycle she had found that she had invaded and had no, or limited ways, of getting out of. Rae wet her lips but before she could react to it all the girl was up in the canopy again, concealed by the flourish of leaves. Rae rubbed her hands together, slowly, trying to work out how she was feeling as she stood on her feet once more and craned her neck up to see.
Not knowing how good the girls hearing was, and not sure if the girl had done it because she was hiding once more or if she was planning an attack, Rae spoke. She did not raise her voice, nor did she whisper, she just spoke in her soft British tones. “I’m sorry too.” She said, gently, and she meant it. It was slowly beginning to occur to Rae that maybe they were as afraid as each other.
She bent and picked up the jumper the girl had taken off, folding it neatly and carefully. Again she spoke, though more to her-self this time; “I hope I didn’t frighten you.” She said, gently and placed the jumper on one of the lower branches, reaching up on her toes to do so, to tuck the jumper into a crack in the bark.

The girl peered through the canopy to watch the girl that had been accompanying her all this time, trying to decide whether or not to return back down. She had not meant to deceive her after all, but at the same time she had not wanted to lose a potential friend in this world, especially when she had so few to begin with. She had to have been one of the only people she had ever talked to after all, and it would have been a shame to lose her because of a simple misunderstanding.
Slowly, the girl descended from the tree, one branch at a time, neatly folding the appendages behind her, as she looked down at the girl with a mix of worry and uncertainty. It seemed as if the girl didn't mean any harm, and she didn't see any viable weapon on her person that could make her think otherwise. Unless it was concealed, but somehow she couldn't see the girl as being a human that carried such a thing around.
"...I'm sorry too..." she replied, now within sight and earshot of Rae, yet still out of reach though. She remained crouched on the branch, obscured from sight by anyone in the distance, as she scrutinized her surroundings. "I did not mean to scare you... I just know that humans are scared of those who are different..."
