"That's good. Glad to see you well."
Rae smiled, mimicking the girl and simply listened to her speaking about her visit here. She wondered for a moment what Beth’s family were like, but it was a fleeting and jealous thought that was there for the length of a heart beat before it flittered off into the distance once more. Rae had long given up on families, at least that of the blood bond sort. Her parents were dead, her brother was the cause for her hunt for revenge a particular daemon horde in Russia and her Uncle had abused for several years before she managed to escape his clutches. No, Rae found family to be best conceived if you picked it yourself. And there were one or two that had made it into her cold heart.
"Is there anyone you don't know? Someone is popular."
“I tend to attract people who are down on their luck or in some sort of trouble.” Rae said, but it was still said with a smile.
Like Beth, Rae heard the exchange between the two men. They weren’t exactly being quiet about it and in this small café, in this close proximity (with the girls sitting in the next booth along) it wasn’t exactly the sort of place to hold such a conversation. Her eyebrow twitched momentarily and she took that moment to sip her coffee before Rae turned around in her seat. Her arm on the back rest of the chair she occupied she glanced over the two men before speaking;
“You know, there are other answers that don’t have to be quite so violent. It’s a worry really, what sort of man turns first to violence and what sort of man is so merry in his consideration to commit it.”
She glanced at Beth and then back at the two men and said; “Why don’t you boys buy us girls something sweet and we’ll see if we can come up with a better solution to your little…problem…for you?” She gave a girlish wink, a movement so very much out of character that suggested Rae was playing a façade; again.
Then she turned back to Beth, not looking for either of the men to answer as she answered the girls final question; “Some sort of flying air-balloon. A pimple.” She smiled in explanation; “But much grander than the ones used to advertise car sales.”

"No no no I don't think you understand what I meant..." Jasper would start as soon as the other man finished. His eyes would flick to follow the woman standing to fix her drink for a brief moment before he would continue by saying "They are obligated legally to follow the contract between us, I need a lawyer or something similar to remind them. I don't need someone demanding fifty gra-" until the familiar woman in the booth ahead spoke up. Things were just looking worse and worse for the engineer, it seemed to him at least. His contractors were being a big pile of dicks, some guy was asking for fifty thousand bucks to literally beat them over the heads with hard objects, and now the nice lady who had vanished just before work started was back. The man sighed and rubbed his forehead gently, willing the developing headache to go away before it really got bad.
"Hey look miss, I'm only asking for someone to legally remind people of contracts. Not asking for them to be drawn and quartered, though at this point I wouldn't spit on 'em if they were on fire." the slumped-over guy would say, shortly before looking down at his empty cup in a weary way. A way that spoke of disappointment, exhaustion, and a sense of there being absolutely-no-fucks-given. As if he were saying 'There is nothing for me here, I might as well throw myself from the nearest overpass as a convoy of supply-semis made their way through.
The cup would be set back down with a small clatter, and the not-particularly-busy waitress would be called over. Jasper would prop a hand between his chin and knee, and say "I'm paying for the ladies in the next booth over." before asking for a refill for his own mug.

It went quiet for a moment and Rae let the silence settle in, then she said. “Look, buddy, you’ve clearly got the wrong idea, why don’t you turn around and head out the door and none of us here will report you. I’m sure, someone who is so freely offering to do dirty work for money will be of great interest to the police.” It was a shame that the handsome man needed to be sent away, he was, after all, handsome. But it was for the best. The less violent this was, the better.
Her eyes turned back to Jasper, smiling as he paid for their drinks. “Why don’t you join us in our booth and explain your little conundrum to us. We’re rather resourceful when we want to be and you never know, maybe we can save you from the over-pass and you can leave that resort for another day.” She wondered if he remembered here, wondered if he remembered the collar she had been wearing at the time and how slender and scared she had been. This Rae, well, she was a different sort of Rae to the one she had been back then. She hadn’t seen her capture for several months and had started to feel the joy and warmth of freedom. That, well, it changed her of course.
Her eyes, dark like chocolate, went to Beth wondering if the girl would mind, but knowing that it would be an experience for them both…

The men's talk amused her. They really had some balls speaking about that topic in such a public place. Either that or stupid, but neither one seemed like they were. Finally Rae confronted the man familiar to her. Beth stayed quiet for now, and let them speak. It was more entertaining when Rae dismissed the more violent of the two, the familiar face. Oh well. She thanked the other man for buying their drinks, and continued to listen. This would be an amazing learning experience and opportunity if it worked out. Though she wasn't so sure how she could help, Beth was willing to try. The woman moved over in the booth and made room for the man, if he chose to take a seat with them.
Bethany clearly was not as intelligent as either of them. The "pimple" comment hit her mind again. She was glad to see Rae in a much lighter mood this time.

The saggy-eyed sleep-deprived engineer would lift himself with a quiet huff of breath, and take a seat on the nearest side of the ladies' booth. As much as it was a relief that the other man had left, it made Jasper wonder about whether or not he could actually finish his project in peace. A lot had happened since the first time he sat in the cafe, and a lot had happened to make the guy doubt that it was possible to not be a jackass about the whole thing. He'd try his best for now, but if it came down to it, he could play dirty for the sake of getting his ship in the air.
"Problem hasn't really changed much since the last time we sat here talking about it. Things are more finalized, have another backer or two, hired on a firm to help build everything, but people are getting antsy with the lack of progress. I blame the worker's strike for that last bit." he would say, and take another look down at the bits of leaf swirling around in the brown-tinted water remaining in the bottom of his cup. "Congrats, by the way," he would add, "About the whole liberation thing. Glad to see you got it figured out in the end."
