James has short-cropped black hair, receded into a widow's peak, and pale honey gold eyes. His body is lean and wiry, a holdover from his military service. Of particular interest is the scar on his right leg, just below the knee, a healed bullet wound. He also has weathered, calloused hands, though whether they're just calloused from work or from some other reason is anyone's guess. He is always clean shaven, and his face is almost always pulled into a contemplative scowl.

James tends more toward suits and ties, whether it's a pair of slacks and a vaguely matching blazer over a button-down shirt, or an actual suit meant to be worn at the same time. Very rarely will James wear anything else, but it is usually jeans and a T-shirt when he does.

James's biggest fear is of crashing and burning into drug and alcohol addiction like his father did after coming back from Desert Storm.
He still has issues with gunfire, and even though he will remain completely calm during, if someone is observant enough, they'll see that ghost of pain in his eyes, and in his posture.

James is obsessed with the art of deductive reasoning, as he calls it, believing that logic and reason can overcome any amount of chaos and misinformation, to the point of even being able to piece together crime scenes from a few photos.

James was born to James Fenwick Senior and Maria Santina-Fenwick, a family of hunters including two brothers and a sister, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. From an early age, James was taught that supernatural beings were undesirable, and could not be trusted to do what was right, that eventually they would succumb to the darkness within them, each and every last one. They believed that it was their duty to Varos Talantos to ensure that no supernatural creature should be able or allowed to upset the balance of nature in such a manner.
So, of course, it was a shock when their youngest member suddenly displayed an amazing and supernatural ability to heal from childhood injuries, to an almost scary level. At first, even his siblings avoided him, though his parents didn't. But as he grew older, and learned how to control the ability, it was realized that this ability would be extremely useful in a family of Hunters.
When he was 18, though, he dropped a bit of a bombshell on his family by enlisting in the US Marine Corps, using his knowledge of anatomy and first aid - picked up as part of his own Hunter training - to secure an assignment as Corpsman. His unit was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and to this day he still won't talk about what happened during his five year tour, aside from admitting that something did happen, enough that he always walks with a limp, and still has an issue with gunfire.
Since then, he's been known as a supplier for Hunters, even surprising a few of them with new garments to replace those shredded and destroyed by hostile supernaturals, as well as being a procurer of rare weapons and gear.
