As the bathroom door shut behind Nyght, Aela turned to Jack, her expression hardened with determination. "If you're telling the truth, then it wouldn't be a problem if I authenticated your claim?" She sounded like a lawyer with the words she was using, but at this point she might as well have been.
Aela's slight power to read minds by physical contact was useful in many cases, but she'd never used it on someone she knew as a friend like Jack. Her usual victims were federal prisoners that were being interrogated or something like that. Never someone she knew by name. But circumstances called for it, so there wasn't anything else to do.
"Come on, Jack." Aela urged, a bit quieter this time. She extended her hand towards her friend. "It isn't such a big deal. Why would you have to hide this from us? We're your friends. It isn't like we're going to turn you over to the authorities if you do some illegal things to get by."

Worships guess who?
Jack is an average, unassuming guy. He stands bashfully, avoiding eye contact as he looks around at everything except the person he's speaking with. A closer look. however, will reveal more.
Beneath this carefully neutral appearance, Jack's body is lean and efficient. He's slow to anger and behind his bashful demeanor is an assertive individual observing his environment with an almost predatory nature.

Jack could tell that they were having a hard time believing him. That really hurt his feelings because he hadn't been lying. didn't have any reason to lie. Anyways, Nyght went to the bathroom to wash her hands or something. The young man finished off another slice of pizza and sipped from his mountain dew, wondering how to feel about having a couple friends who felt like they couldn't trust his word unless it matched their expectations of them which was, apparently, that he was a lazy, good for nothing delinquent. Which he totally was not.
"Can't. Sorry." The young man shook his head apologetically. "Willfully submitting to having my thoughts read might be construed as a breach of contract, considering I am privy to information not available to the general public." Jack shrugged and frowned. He'd thought they trusted him. He'd thought they had a higher opinion than this of him. The young man could see now that he'd been mistaken.
"I don't need to do anything illegal to get by and I don't have anything I feel the need to hide from you two."

Nyght grabbed the hand towel, and wiped the tears out of her eyes. This only made them slightly red and even more obvious. She gritted her teeth in exasperation, then quickly rinsed her face off with some cold water to help then dried her face off and her hands. She hung the hand towel back up and exited the bathroom, returning to sit upon the couch beside Aela as she talked about reading Jack's mind and him refusing. She scoffed loudly.
"Privy to information not available to the general public? Oh PHAALLEEAASSEE Jack! We are all supernatural beings in this room! We are ALL privy to knowledge not available to the general public. Just drop it, Aela," She snapped, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back against the couch, "he obviously does not trust us enough to give out such PRIVY information, which he claims he does not feel the need to hide from us but still will not tell us."
She had set her face and body posture hard and solid, clearly angry with him still and irritated. Why was she so irritated? She did not know. Nobody had irritated her more then this except Marcus, and that had been extremely different. Marcus, or as she knew him by Ghost at the time, had purposefully tried to push her buttons and piss her off at every turn. Jack, she hoped, was not doing it on purpose. He was being obtuse and obstinate.
