Someone had told her that this town had a pretty cool arcade which Lydia just had to go check out. It worked out perfect since she had some time to kill this evening, and what better way to enjoy than rotting your brain with some old video games!
The building was packed full of nerds of all ages and she felt right at home. She loved how all the games were being played all at once to make one big jumbled noise. Lydia slipped in a bill into the change machine and excitedly scooped up the coins it spat out. A lot of the nerds were going for some of the newer games, but Lydia's face lit up as she spotted a game she hadn't played in ages.. Mrs. Pac Man!
It took her a few tries but she had been playing for a bit and just beat level 4. She was nowhere as good as she used to be, but that was fine with her because she was having a good time anyway. The little blue ghost guy finally caught her and ended the game. Lydia frowned as she walked away from the game to find something else to try out.

FLAWLESS VICTORY! Jack hung his head in mock shame before handing over the five bucks with an easy smile. He'd known how good the kid was when he'd challenged him but hadn't expected his own skills to have rusted so much. Seeing some kid standing there playing Mortal Kombat, Jack had asked to play with him, thinking back to how many hours he'd spent playing the game as a kid. He hadn't hesitated to agree to the bet when the kid had boasted he would win without taking any damage. Jack recognized he'd been hustled but didn't mind too much. Five bucks was nothing and he'd still had fun.
Normally, the young man hung out at home, playing the latest titles on one of his consoles or pc. But with how busy he'd been at work lately, Jack hadn't been able to socialize much. It simply wasn't healthy for him. So he'd decided to visit an arcade and play video games surrounded by people instead of by himself in the dark. The games were old but still very enjoyable.
Done with that particular game, Jack was walking around the arcade, searching for something else to play. He'd seen a Mrs Pacman game somewhere around here earlier... The young man was turning to look at a shooter that seemed promising when he bumped into someone. His face flushing with embarrassment, Jack turned to apologize.

Someone managed to bump into her, and that someone happened to be a cute guy. Luckily the guy didn't look too upset and actually pretty embarrassed about it. It was bound to happen in a crowded place anyway.
"Sorry! I need to pay more attention to where I'm going. You're like the third person I've bumped into here." It was a lie of course, but she smiled and apologized anyway. "I haven't been to an arcade in a while and I zoned out there for a minute." She looked towards the shooter game near them. "Were you headed to that one too?" The system had two handguns attached. "Looks like it's a two player game. Mind if we team up? I warn you though I'm not very good anymore."

"It's cool," Was all Jack managed to choke out when she apologized. Smooth. The impression the young man had managed to make so far was one of a clumsy jerk, and possibly an idiot. "I mean, I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, either. This shooter has been busy all day and I was so relieved to see it finally free," The young man told her, gesturing toward the game. House of The Dead 2. It wasn't zombie mode on Black ops but it was good fun all the same. "But, um, yeah. Co-op sounds fun."
Jack walked over to the game and picked up one of the guns, the controller hanging from its cord where some lazy kid had been too frustrated with his losses to put it back in the holder where it belonged. "I'm not all that skilled myself but I still have fun, even when I'm getting my butt kicked. Which happens pretty often," The young man admitted with an easygoing smile. "I'm Jack," He held his free hand for a quick shake. Inwardly, Jack berated himself for nearly forgetting introductions again. Where were his manners? Starting the game up, they were thrown into some action almost immediately with a weird bat monster threatening them before they were attacked by a couple zombies. Jack fired away, green blood spattering all over the place whenever a bullet hit a zombie, occasionally blowing limbs off.
"Do you come her a lot? I haven't, recently. Mostly been focused on newer games when I'm not busy with work but it's nice to get back to basics every now and then."

Lydia was glad he agreed to playing with her. She followed him to the game and reached into her pocket for more coins. "I'm Lydia." she said after shaking his hand.
It had been so long she had almost forgotten how to reload. Even with the corny old graphics, this game was fun. Something about actually aiming and pulling the trigger vs holding a console controller just felt better. Jack was quicker than she was at shooting but she still managed to do her part. It wasn't too hard to get the hang of the game again after playing for a couple minutes.
"This is actually my first time here but I would totally be here all the time if I lived lived in the area. I love games, just haven't had much time for them lately." She stopped speaking for a few seconds to focus on the group of zombies that popped onto the screen. "What do you play on at home? You look like a PS4 guy."

"Do I? Well, I do have a PS4 but I also have an xbox one and a pc. I wasn't originally planning to get a PS4 but I had to if I wanted to play Bloodborne. What about you?" The young man tilted his gun to fire outside the screen for a second, reloading, before pointing it back at the screen and blowing some axe crazy zombie's head off.
The camera continued taking them through the level and Jack shot at whatever popped up. It was the beginning so things weren't too hard. "Ya know, I must've played this a hundred times but I have no idea what's going on in the story. I mean, I assume it has one but I usually just shoot what's on the screen. Ever play any of the Souls games? They're difficult but worth it."
It wasn't long before they came to their first boss, that ugly little gargoyle thing from the beginning showed up again and blabbed its mouth for a few seconds before some giant armored monster with no head carrying an axe came and swatted a couple cars before attacking them. "You've gotta shoot the gargoyle thing. Stupid things pretty fast though."

"I have all of them too, we should exchange online info so we can play together sometime. I have all these systems and games and it would be cool to play it with someone rather than random strangers." Truthfully she didn't like playing online much with strangers because most of the time when she spoke thorough the headset, she'd be harassed one way or another just for being female. It wasn't so bad when they were just super nice as long as they weren't creepy though.
"Huh.. I guess I never really thought about the story much myself. I just like shooting things. Wasn't paying too much attention to what the ugly thing is saying." she wondered if anyone actually paid any attention to the story of the game. It was always loud inside arcades anyway so you probably had to really try hard to hear it over all the other noises. "No, dont think I have." she said in response to his question. "I'll have to look them up when I get a chance."
Jack explained to her how to kill the first boss. Seemed easy enough. "What does a gargoyle have to do with zombies anyway?"

Jack smiled widely. He rarely played online with people he'd gotten to meet in real life, usually just sending them friend invites after playing a particularly fun game but one that was randomly matched up. "That would be cool. My account names are all Jack_Attack5. Yours?" The young man glanced at her again, in between attempts to shoot stuff onscreen. She was nice and, he had to admit to himself, attractive. It occurred to Jack that she was probably hit on by awkward gamer girl loving nerds quite a bit, so he decided to be careful with his words, so that he wouldn't accidentally creep her out. The young man wasn't usually interested in people that way but there were occasionally misunderstandings.
"Shooting things is definitely fun," Jack agreed, punctuating his statement with another shot. Lydia wasn't bad and she seemed to be getting better pretty quickly. "The green goo in particular makes every shot more satisfying, for me. Sort of adds an dash of silliness."
He thought for a moment, reloading after expending his gun trying to hit the gargoyle guy. "I honestly have no idea. Maybe-- Quick, shoot the gargoyle dude to stop the big guy from hitting us with the axe!"

Lydia peeked over to see a big smile on Jack's face which made her smile in return. "Mine is WhiteRabbit22." Hers might have been a little strange to him since his at least had to do with his real name. "Don't laugh.. I might have been addicted to the Matrix a little too much when I created it. Plus I love animals. My second career choice would definitely have to be a veterinarian or something else animal related." Was she talking too much? She worried maybe she was and stopped to let him get some words in.
"The green goo is definitely a nice touch. Lydia jumped a little when Jack told her to shoot the gargoyle thing. "Take that! Hey, you're really good at this." She quickly reloaded again "bang bang!" Maybe she was enjoying this a little too much.

WhiteRabbit22, the young man echoed back in his head, trying to memorize it for when he got home. Jack stifled a chuckle, disguising it with a muffled cough, wondering why she'd chosen that particular tag. "Laugh? Why, I would never!" The young man said in mock offense. "I think that's kinda cute. Or, at least it's not lame like Jack_Attack. I picked mine because when it came time I just couldn't think of anything else."
A couple more shots and they'd finally killed the boss. "Eh. I'm not so good. Just a quick trigger finger and I've sunk some hours into this game before." The gargoyle thing started blabbing some more but at that point Jack wasn't paying it too much attention. It was dead and no amount of begging was gonna save it. Jack turned his face some so he could look at Lydia better, watching the screen from the corner of his eye for when more zombies popped up and needed shooting.
"You mentioned your second career choice being a vet? What's your first?"

She gave Jack a sideways glance as he tried to cover up his laughter with a cough. "I said DON'T laugh. Gosh." and stuck her tongue out at him. "But your name is catchy. Jack Attack. I like it."
"Well I'm glad to have you on my team anyway to save me from the evil zombie gargoyle things. My hero!" Lydia forgot about the game once she turned to look at Jack. He was so cute and nice and had her attention.
"Oh, uhh.. I'm a magician." she paused and waited for him to laugh at her. "I've always loved the idea of magic and now I get to travel and do shows. That's why I'm in town today." Lydia's face turned slightly red "You're more than welcome to some check it out tomorrow if you aren't busy. Maybe we could do something together afterwords." She hoped now she wasn't being too weird or pushy.

The young man's face flushed slightly. "Jeez. You don't have to tease me like that," Jack mumbled, embarrassed. He felt like Lydia was looking at him weird. It was probably just his imagination, projecting his own awkwardness onto the woman. Was that how that worked? Jack did a mental shrug. The young man wasn't exactly good at reading other people and he wasn't exactly a psychologist or whatever, either. Best to ignore such silly thoughts for now.
"A magician? That's pretty cool," He had to admit. The young man hadn't met very magicians, not being the hugest fan of 'magic', though he was something of a wizard himself. Wink wink! Most of them seemed to be guys and they seemed to be jerks, too. But Lydia was fun and nice and Jack liked her. "That sounds fun!" Was his reply. "I'll totally be there," Jack said, looking away from Lydia just then as if something on the screen had distracted him. Why do you always have to be such a weirdo? The young man asked himself.

"Great!" He looked away to the screen so she did too. She had forgotten about the game while she was talking. Nothing too important was going on just yet.
"I've been doing magic since I was little. It was sort of a hobby and I just got lucky enough to get a job doing it. I get to travel so it's pretty cool. Next week I'll be in Vegas again. So anyway, what else do you like to do for fun?"
"Oh, I forgot you'll need a ticket to get in. I have them in my hotel room down the road. Mind stopping there after we are done here?" Lydia took a minute to realize what she said. She just invited a cute guy to her hotel room. "I didn't mean it like THAT. You only have to come for a minute. Not that I'd kick you out if you wanted to stay longer.. um anyway the tickets are in my room." Luckily things to shoot started popping on the screen to save her from talking more.

"So doing magic has been, like, kind of your dream job since you were a little kid? That's pretty cool. I imagine a cute little Lydia running around bopping everyone over the head with her magic wand, disappearing peoples' wallets." Jack laughed at that particular thought. "Oh, you know. I like traveling and meeting new people. Making a new friend is always nice. I travel a lot for work so it all turns out pretty well."
Lydia mentioned him needing a ticket to get into the show and the young man nodded. That sounded about right. Would be difficult to make money if-- Wait what? She'd invited Jack up to her hotel room. He was so surprised that the young man missed a shot so badly that he actually ended up reloading. But not because of the invitation to come to her hotel room.
Jack actually hadn't found anything strange about that. The tickets were in her room so naturally he'd have to go up there to get his. It wasn't until she attempted to specify her meaning that what she could have meant occurred to him, causing the young man to blush furiously. "S-sure. We could go now, if you want. House of the Dead is fun but it does get a bit repetitive at times." Jack distracted himself from his own awkwardness by shooting some more zombies. "I wouldn't mind hanging out for a bit. You know, if you want." He glanced over at Lydia.

"Yeah, and something like that." she giggled at his description of her. So what do you do for work then?" She looked over to Jack and then back to the screen. "Meeting new people is definitely nice, and seeing different places.
She was so busy shooting that she didn't see Jack fumbling with controller. "Sure, we can go now if you want." She didn't think her hotel would be as entertaining as the arcade but she didn't mind leaving either. Lydia placed the gun controller thing back into it's holster and waited for him.
The walk was only about five or ten minutes and during most of it she was fairly quiet, thinking of ways to entertain someone in a hotel room besides.. well yeah. Her room was on the second floor so they took the elevator up from the lobby and walked down a short hallway. Lydia unlocked the door and held it open for Jack to enter. "Well, here we are. Make yourself comfortable." It was a pretty standard room, but it was clean except for a few of Lydia's things scattered around on the desk and tables. She went to the desk and got the tickets. "Here you go. And an extra if you would like to take a girlfriend or something."
