Aurora sat on the roof of her new apartment building; she needed the fresh air. Her neighbors across the hall were fighting over money problems again, and she couldn’t take another night of their screaming. She took a deep breath of the night air and closed her eyes. The sounds of the traffic below flooded her ears. She wanted nothing more than to open her wings and soar above the city, to leave the ground behind. However, she was too afraid of being exposed.
She leaned her back against the ledge, and the sounds of the night became fainter. She shook herself, making herself coherent again. She was adamant on staying awake after last night’s nightmare. She looked up at the sky and sighed.
“Twinkle, twinkle little star. How I wonder what you are.” Her father’s voice rang in her head, and she pushed the childhood memory from her mind before it could sting. Absentmindedly, she twirled the locket in her fingers, thinking of nothing as she stared at the ground.
Cag stood, panting as he examined the large gap between the two buildings. He shook his head, knowing he shouldn't do this but also knowing fully well he was going to do it anyways. He took three or four large steps back, then threw himself forwards into a sprint. Reaching the edge of the roof, he leap up and out, diving for the opposite roof. He just barely cleared the gutter, and rolled on his shoulder, springing back to his feet. He looked around, and not seeing anybody he walked across the roof to the next gap. This one was even bigger.
Looking up, he saw somebody sitting upon the roof across from him. In the dark it was hard to see, but it looked like a female. Perhaps a angel? He thought he could see wings. Not really judging the gap, he took several steps backwards and launched himself off the roof. He almost didn't make it at all. Instead, his fingers caught the gutter of the apartment building, and he hung in mid-air, grunting as he tried to pull himself up. A sudden popping sound chilled his heart to the bone. He watched as a second screw popped out. Oh lord, this was going to hurt something fierce he thought, looking down at the ground about twenty feet below.

A strange sound to her left startled Aurora out of her daydream. She looked around, fear making her senses peak. When the sound repeated a second time, she could tell that it was coming from the side of the building. Slowly, she creeped over to the other edge.
She saw two hands grasping onto the gutter before she could see the rest of the body. A third pop sounded and she noticed that the gutter wasn’t going to withstand much more. She grabbed the hands, leaning over the side.
“What are you doing?” She asked as she tried to help the boy up onto the roof. She didn’t want to show off how strong she really was, so she pretended to be struggling. Then, she remembered her wings, and her body went numb.
‘Oh, God, what if he saw?!’ She thought after quickly tucking them behind her back.
Grunting with effort, Cag managed to grasp her wrists with his hands, and smiled up at her. She was definitely an angel. Even if her wings had not given it away, hair perfectly keep hair would have, even hanging almost upside down in his face it didn't mess up. He kept his smile and spoke airly, as if he wasn't hanging twenty feet from the ground by nothing but her hands now.
"Oh, nothing. Just out for a midnight stroll along the roof tops, saw you sitting over here and decided to introduce myself. You where so cute, I just decided to *hang* around a while. Oh, and don't worry about holding your wings so uncomfortably. I know you are an angel, and it is ok. You don't have anything to worry from me." He continued to stare up at her, his solid gold eyes with no pupils gleaming with mischief as he spoke.

Aurora smiled wide at the compliment before she could stop herself.
“I bet you say that to all the girls,” she laughed.
She wanted to ask him about how he could be okay in the face of such a deformity, but thought it best not to ruin a good thing. She relaxed her wings a little, still wary. She’d never really had anyone talk to her this much and it was making her nervous. She glanced down at the ground 20 feet below. She began lifting him up to the roof.
He breathed a heavy sigh of relief when she began to lift him up onto the roof. As soon as he could he swung his legs sideways and upon onto shingled surface. He released her wrists and stood up, brushing his baggy black cargo pants off and his black leather vest. He then looked up and grinned.
"Thanks for helping a fellow out of a bit of a tight spot, mi'lady. I would have survived the fall, but it would have been extremely ugly. The name is Ca'guuror. Ca'guuror DelaSangre. But you can call me Cag for short. Everybody I know does." He extended his hand, offering to shake hers and as a slightly wind ruffled his shoulder length dirty blonde hair.

Aurora stared at the hand before shaking it. She wasn’t sure if she could trust him or not and didn’t want to give him the chance to hurt her.
“My name’s Aurora Thourn,” she couldn’t hold back the question any longer. “How do you know what I am?”
No one had ever known her race before, no one but her father. She shivered slightly in the cold night air, and thought about seeking refuge below. Deciding not to, she sat down on the ledge and waited for his answer.
He sighed and leaned against a metallic pipe used to vent heat from the apartments below. He looked the girl over and then stared off into the night sky. He knew a lot about angels. Well, he knew more then most people. She was easy to spot as an angel.
"It was easy to know that you where an angel. Your wings where a give away. So was your hair. Perfect no matter what happens to it. I have spoken to other angels before. I have..." he hesitated, not wanting to scare her, then changed course, "I have had some altercations involving angels as well before. So I know a lot that most people don't or don't want to know." He grinned and stretched, then stepped towards her and sat down beside her, looking out over the town. He usually didn't like big cities, but smalller towns where not to bad.
