Not being the type of female to drift towards heels, they're more of a occasional shoe, making way for sneakers and boots instead on usual days. Personality:
At first glance, Maria can be described as distant, rude and blunt; possessing an air about her that says "keep away". To those that don't know her, her facial expressions usually appear as apathetic or bored. This is not far from the truth as those who are on her bad side will find her to show hostility mixed with a bit of sass and sarcasm. When angered, she's merciless and violent.
Underneath the harsh exterior, there is a warm, generous, and kind nature with a few childish mannerisms. Those who know her well remark on her free spirited, and her seemingly nonchalant attitude on serious matters. When it comes to having to actually be serious, she becomes very single minded, and will overwork herself to exhaustion.
Expressing emotions is what Maria has a difficult time doing, preferring to not vocalize her feelings and suppressing them if possible. Trying to force her to open up will usually result in hostile outburst, with possible violence. When she is unable to bottle her emotions up anymore, she distances herself out of fear of possibly hurting those she cares about. Even when on her good side, violent behavior is something ingrained into her, and will be shown toward those she cares about in the form of playful insults and hitting. In rare instances of those who truly have her affection, she shows a level of possessiveness that seems unlike her. This possessiveness comes with displays of affection, but when her attention needs aren't met, she grows upset. Her affection also has its flaws as she will force those she cares about to accept a decision she has made if she feels it will effect them positively, regardless if it does or not.
Maria has a habit of trying to do things on her own, and will openly refuse any sort of help unless she absolutely needs it. She is rather hard on herself, seeing herself as below others. This causes her to pushes herself incredibly hard in order to prove to herself that she has some sort of worth. Sadly no matter how hard she works, she never manages to reach the self worth she is trying to achieve and continues to feel as if her worth is nothing.

History:
Maria was born in Vigo, Spain to a high school couple. Unfortunately, her birth did not make them closer, as her parents would eventually break up before their graduation. Her father would start seeing several other women, deciding to continue his life without the worries of being responsible for a child. Her mother on the hand couldn't raise a child alone. While Maria's grandmother offered to help, she'd eventually become her guardian, after Maria's mother made the decision to leave as well to live on her own. While under the care of her grandmother, Maria moved to the UK after the elderly woman retired from working. Seven years later later, Maria's mother would renter her life after moving to the UK as well. Deciding she wanted to raise her daughter, Maria would move in with her mother, but due to the girl being unfamiliar with the woman, their relationship was a distant one.
A year after Maria and her mother begin to live together, her mother married a man, who also begin to live with them. With him, he brought his son, who became obsessed with Maria despite their eight year gap in age. Whenever the two were left alone. he'd sexual assault her. When Maria attempted to talk about it, she was usually dismissed as having a hyperactive imagination or having played too roughly with her step-brother. Because no one prevented it, she continued to fall victim to his attacks until her mother finally divorced.
From the marriage, Maria gained a younger sister named Mia. Maria wasn't particularly fond of Mia at first, and when she and her mother argued due to their steadily fracturing relationship, it was Mia who served as the victim of Maria's verbal assaults. Neglect for her and her sister was the reason behind the declining relationship between mother and daughter. By the age of fourteen, Maria's mother was hardly ever home, unless she was drunk or had a man with her. With her mother's lack of presence in their household, it became her responsibility to tend to the needs of her and her sister.
Her only source of support both emotionally and financially came from her grandmother, who had become very ill after being diagnosed with lung cancer. When not tending to her sister, she spent her time assisting her grandmother however she could. A month before her seventeenth birthday, Maria's grandmother died. Her grandmother's death devastated her but she refused to show it. Instead, she begin to treat Mia better, and their relationship improved as her younger sister instead became her emotional attachment.
A year later, after her graduation from high school, Maria and her mother got into an argument over who Maria cared about more between her mother and grandmother. The result was Maria discovering her attunement to fire. Fearing that she would hurt her mother with her new found abilities while angry, she left home and stayed at a friend's house for a week. Eventually she returned home, obviously finding her sister alone. Despite having returned home, her mother never did. Thus Maria sought out employment to provide for the two of them. Her work was usually temporary, so there were often times were she didn't work. During those times, she resulted to stealing money to stay afloat financially.
At the age of twenty, Maria met Olivia and Harley Reynolds when she had entered in a singing competition. Impressed with her singing voice, the Reynolds twins offered her a job as a singer at one of their bars. A few months after working, she discovered the bar was a front organization for money laundering, belonging to the Lambeth crime syndicate, ran by none other than the Reynolds family. Her discovery placed her life in danger, but she managed to avoid being killed by offering her services, mainly her ability to control fire. Intrigued by this, Olivia decided to keep her alive, allowing her to continue singing while assisting in the syndicates various operations when the need arose.
