Sphinx Created to guard the entrance to Shangri-La, the Sphinx are magnificent, strong beings with a body that could be likened to a lion's, wings similar in form to a massive eagle's, and the torso of a fair Human. They are an intelligent species, perhaps moreso than mortals. Compounded with their ability to fly, their strength, and their speed and agility, the Sphinx is something most would be ill-advised to fight. They are told of in both Greek and Egyptian legend, though the Greeks tell of a violent, riddle-telling Sphinx and the Egyptians speak of a benevolent, merciful being and usually talk about the males (known as AndroSphinx). The reason for this discretion is time. Both tell accurately of the Sphinx, though the Egyptians saw them before the Great Confusion, when many Sphinx abandoned their posts and resorted to violent means. Originally the Sphinx were extremely kind beings, able to perform, but only willing if necessary. They always loved a good game or riddle to sharpen their wit and this stayed with them as they descended upon Earth. In Greek legend, the Sphinx received the proper answer and then committed suicide when what actually happened was it allowed him passage only to be slain from behind. Point of this tad of knowledge is that the Sphinx are fickle. There are some that are extremely deceptive and there are some that fully honest all the time... and some in between. It is reported that there has been a Sphinx terrorizing an area near Luxor, Egypt. Killing the Sphinx To kill the Sphinx, a party of no more than 5 and no less than 3 must be used. These adventurers must be active throughout the thread. The quest thread should be titled "Hunting the Sphinx", be made in Africa or Europe, and be at least 50 posts long. Reward If the requirements for killing the Sphinx are met, a reward will be distributed to the participants. The otherwise unattainable "Eye of the Sphinx" will be added to the inventory of two of the participants, which acts as a one-time portal to Shangri-La. One party member (whichever proved most valuable) will be granted the "Tongue of the Sphinx"; a way teleport to Shangri-La as is desired by he/she who possesses the Tongue. Important Note: Abandoning a quest will result in a penalty, to be determined by the Staff. Examples include a temporary ban on participating in quests, losing points, etc. If a quest is abandoned and the quest no longer meets the minimum requirement of characters, it can be completed with the number as long as at least two members remain, or a volunteer can join the quest.
