The Sound of Silence
by Simon and Garfunkeldescription:;
Anthrophilus is an older centaur, a centaur whose wisdom is respected by some and hated by others. He has a coat of brown fur and a torso which bares the marks of scars, from battle or self infliction. He is a visibly sturdy and strong centaur and wields a spear, javelins, and spells when in combat.
He has tattoos all over his body; they tell his life journey in an ancient language, dead to all but him and a few archaeologists.

background:;
Born in the mountains of the Great Basin in the early 1500's CE, the centaur now known as Anthrophilus enjoyed a youth that was, to say the least, carefree and peaceful. However, that was shattered when first the Spanish, then the English, slaughtered his whole tribe. He has been wandering the Rockies and the Great Plains ever since, seeking knowledge and wisdom from the extremely rare tomes written by his ancestors.
The young centaur has found a considerable amount of knowledge and wisdom through reading these books. He is well versed in history, philosophy, and theology. He has become convinced through reading these tomes that the chief purpose of a centaur is to protect mankind.
When he first became convinced of this in 1839, he was disgusted and horrified that it was his sacred duty to protect and serve the very people who cut his family down before him and a race that kills its own for the sake of power. He became a hermit for the rest of the 19th and 20th centuries, meditating on the tomes and their contents.
Their proverbs and sayings were all clear that centaurs, as well as all other races on the earth and in the different planes, were supposed to be the servants and protectors of all mankind.
He emerged from a fifty year meditative state on the morning of December 21, 2011. His emergence was marked by something he had never felt before: feelings of peace and understanding instead of chaos and meaninglessness.
He began calling himself Anthrophilus, believing that it was the Great Spirit who tells centaurs to serve and protect mankind.
He sees the "modern" (post 600 CE) philosophical works of other centaurs to be a great apostasy from the true ways of the centaur.
Anthrophilus also views the gift of invisibility to be a great mistake by Locutus Ferox: although he admits that Ferox, seeing the slaughters, had good intentions. the Great Spirit wishes for centaurs to reveal themselves to humans, not to hide from them.
In fact, he has often been quoted as saying that "If Ferox is a god, he too must bow his knee at the feet of the ones that the Great Spirit gave dominion over all nature." This has landed him in trouble with Ferox before, but Anthrophilus is nevertheless dedicated to the Great Spirit's children's safety and progress.
Because he is a man of words, not of the sword, Anthrophilus generally prefers to avoid armed conflict. However, when he is engaged in battle, he wields a spear and javelins. He also utilizes battle meditation in order to effectively dispatch of any threats.
