I Will Not Bow by Breaking Benjamin
description:;[/b][/color]
Requiem is a large, proud sphinx. The son of the original sphinxs created to protect Shangri-la he is large, powerful, muscle, and magnificent in his true form standing at twelve feet tall and twenty feet long. He is proud of his looks but not in an obsessive way. He simply like them being to the top of their class, but if they are not then he will survive and fix them later.
His body is covered in creamy white fur that is silky and soft if ever touched. The muscles of his feline predatory nature sculpt his body, clearly defining him as powerful and yet graceful. Two ancient markings of faint gray are upon his front shoulders, working their way down to his knees. His tail is long and powerful as well, and also prehensile and he is able to manipulate things with it though clearly not as well as hands would as there is a lack of an opposing index to allow that. Upon the end is a tuft of ocean blue fur, about two feet long and extremely soft. He has retractable claws upon each foot, numbering five each or twenty all together. His wings are large, almost fifteen feet in length each and a thickly covered in ocean blue feathers. His face is framed by a swept back mane and beard of the same blue fur, accenting and adding to his regal look. The mane goes down along his chest as well and stops just between his front legs. The face itself is best described as regal, almost noble with and aquiline nose upon his blue visage. White marks of ancient design criss cross his face. Eyes of solid white stare out of this regal face to gaze upon the world. This form however is unknown by most people, being the gods themselves and only a select few mortal beings whom Requiem considers ndugu.
Requiem has lived many lives, using his shape shifting powers to take different. However he never assumes more than one 'life' at a time. His current 'incarnation' is as the rogue vigilante Midnight Ace. Midnight Ace is a six foot eleven inch tall male. His musculature is well defined without being a body builder. He has black hair that seems to have a back swept appearance, as if he had spent far to much time upon a motorcycle without a helmet or a convertible car for long periods of time. The male form had stunning sea foam green eyes.

Requiem carries a unique set of weapons that he has trained with over and over for hundreds of years, and although he is capable of using almost any weapon placed within his hands he carries these around at almost all times.
This is Requiem’s primary and most favored weapon. He carries it around like a walking cane almost, or upon his back outside of his jacket. The weapon is 46” long, and when a button is depressed upon the center the two halves can separate to reveal two hidden blades within the quarterstaff like weapon that are 10” long. If the handle’s are reversed and the none bladed tips twisted together the weapon can become a double bladed stave.Requiem’s secondary weapon is a unique and rare weapon that most wouldn’t dare to attempt to master, it is known as an urumi or a chuttuval. It is commonly referred to as a whip sword. It is commonly worn around the waist as a belt, and Requiem does such only the belt is the special sheath for the weapon. Requiem’s urumi is three bladed (unlike the picture that is four) and is four and a half feet long.
Requiem wouldn’t go in to combat without out some form of long ranged capabilities. So Requiem carries two chakrams, personally not caring for guns to much as he finds them far too loud and messy. He carries one of these upon each hip, and with his incredible strength and agility he is able to throw these weapons with incredible accuracy and with enough strength to gut a being and spill their intestines upon their feet.

In his true form Requiem usually wears nothing though at times will be seen if he has recently been 'home' to the Khyper-diorem wearing a collar like piece of personal jewelry made if silver and sapphires. Other than that he has no need for cloths in this form.
In his Midnight Ace persona he wears a black leather jacket with a long back that is split down the center from his waist down, much like the tails upon fancy tuxedos. The collar is high and goes up his neck, and be usually wears the front of his jacket unzipped to reveal his smooth muscles chest. The jacket is of a glossy black material and the sleeves are long an come down to his wrists. He wears leather fingerless gloves (he doesn't worry about fingerprints as nobody has ever gotten real ones for him and this man doesn't even truly exist so would never show up). Black matte pants clad his legs, and black boots. Upon his face he wears an asymmetrical black mask that conceals his eyes, nose, and most of the center of his face leaving his forehead as well as his lower cheeks and chin exposed. (Seriously...if you don't understand this just look at the picture. It's exactly that.)

Requiem has a game he loves to play, a game called three dimensional chess. He created the idea, basing it upon combat because people can be flanked, surrounded, and attacked from multiple levels. The third dimension is often overlooked in combat and can be an extremely useful tool, and he enjoys this game as it makes him think in that level as well as other abstract forms. The television series Star Trek used his game as a model after somebody who visited his 'home' at the time saw the game and played a game with him.

Requiem was born in Persia, created between his “father” who was also a sphinx and was one of the original sphinx and defenders of Shangri-la and his mother who was also a sphinx though her origin was unknown. His father left the heavens to search for a more worthwhile life than simply sitting idly by whenever the gods didn’t need him and help the Roman Empire grow in to a major power by serving every emperor under a different guise, as well as originally helping establish and found the Praetorian guard of the emperor of Rome. However like all good things, this came to an end. While helping the current emperor known as Julius Caesar who was burned his ships in the harbor of Alexandria and inadvertently set fire to the magnificent library of Alexandria. Knowing the importance of certain scrolls within, the sphinx warrior entered the burning library and saved several scrolls that pertained to the creation of his own species. He gave all but one of these to be saved and hidden away to a trusted comrade, and took the last scroll with himself back to Rome. While there, he convinced the Persian woman whom he had fallen in love with and married to help him create another sphinx to be their offspring. Together the two of them set off upon the quest to create a sphinx, and months later they were successfully pregnant with a child. They gathered their personal belongings and left both Rome and Egypt before heading to his mother’s home country of Persia.
Requiem was born in Persia upon August 21, 1513. His father raised him with his mother in their home there for many years. His father taught him everything he knew, all the battle strategies he had learn over the years from multitudes of campaigns and battles. He taught his son as much as he could, knowing that one day the body would need all the knowledge for he would not be around at all times to protect the boy. His father battled against the Ottomans, the cursed people who had destroyed the last of his beloved Roman Empire that had split and become the Byzantine Empire. Requiem’s mother was assumed slain during this battle, and Requiem’s father came back an empty man. No longer wanting to do anything, Requiem’s father bid his son farewell having taught the boy everything he needed to know. The only thing that would teach the boy more than what he knew was the experience of doing things upon his own. Requiem’s father left him, and returned to Shangri-la to live alone, which left Requiem to live alone and by himself from thence forth. So Requiem set out to learn as much as he could, and began right there in Persia.
Requiem sought out a group of skilled, feared warriors renown around the world as hassassins, or the original group of assassins to come in to being and not the sects that had split off and become different groups. Hassassins where the original assassins of the world, created by Hassan-i Sabbah, the first grandmaster. The term hassassin (or hashashin) was a derogatory misnomer by the original groups enemies. They where officially called the Nizari Ismailis and the word hashashin (which later evolved in to the term "hassasin" then even farther in to "assassin") was placed up on them by the Mustali Ismailis because it was implied that Hassan-i-Sabbah would take young boys and feed them hashish (marijuana for the uneducated non-drug user people like myself who totally had to look that crap up) before leading them to a "paradise" and then telling his followers that only he could lead them back although this was never proven. Requiem proved himself to the direct descendants of the original hashashins who where still going by the name Nizari Ismailis, who almost instantly took him amidst their ranks and began training him. He learned the arts of theatrics, how to trick the opponents to looking elsewhere to expect an attack so they let their guard down. With the incredible intelligence of the sphinx he secretly was, and previous training from his father Requiem learned rapidly and exponentially. He learned the art of stealth and disguise, of trickery and deception. It became a way of life, and part of who he was. Before long, his old name was no more. Requiem simply cease to exist, and instead was born a new being that quickly became feared. He donned a black mask, and new clothing. Yet Midnight Ace wasn’t just a killer, a slayer for the highest bidder. He was a messenger, able to deliver a message of fear and terror. It wasn’t always about leaving one dead, but sometimes leaving one terrified so they would do the order’s bidding. Sometimes it was to show a message to the entire city that things would not be accepted. Thus a public execution would be orchestrated, brutal and vicious in its own right but not unwarranted. This was the true legacy of the hassassins before it was corrupted and turned in to a killing machine for the use of powerful people. However, not even assassins are fool proof and upon one mission Requiem was to “teach” a certain monk in Delhi that he and his temple would learn their place. However, something about the monk stayed Requiem’s hand, and instead he knelt and began to speak with the monk. They spoke for hours, about many things. Though young, Requiem’s superior mind grasped the concepts the older more experience man had to offer. Requiem forsake his killer ways of ten years, and went with the monk.
Thus Requiem joined a temple of monk like warriors, who all specialized in older style melee types of combat. He studied and trained here in this temple for many years, but not only the weapons. Requiem also studied the tenants by which they lived. These tenants where basic principles that the world at large seemed to have lost in the chaos of war and the struggles for power that plagued the lands. Requiem, with his highly intelligent mind and open mindedness learn these tenants and took them to heart. He also learned the skill necessary to wield one of the most extraordinary weapons the monks used, the urumi or the whip sword. With his supernatural agility and speed, he was magical with the urumi, able to easily disarm other opponents as well as sever limbs and body parts off a being with a flick of his wrist. It was a magnificent yet brutal display of his power, yet with the tenants firmly in his mind Requiem would never use this weapon or any other viciously or out of some personal reason to seek power and fame. Requiem also became skilled in the use of a discus like weapon called the chakram that was used as both a close quarters weapon to defend oneself as well as being used for a long distance attack like a throwing knife or shuriken. However these weapons in Requiem’s hand, combined with his incredible strength and agility where no simple throwing weapons. Requiem could use them like missiles, whipping them through the air so quickly the chakram would actually whistle as they moved. If they were not made correctly the weapons would explode like bombs upon contact with his target from the incredible force that he threw them and the weak metal forging powers of the monks with in the temple who usually concentrated upon using wooden non-lethal weapons. That or the weapon would leave deep gouges upon the training dummies that where crafted out of wood and pig's hide in the likeness of a human body. This was because combined with Requiem’s strength, he could twist his wrist and spin the bladed circle around much like a saw would spin upon an axis. This created enough force to not only cut but slice repeatedly and rapidly. It became clear that if thrown properly and with precise and perfect aim, Requiem would be able to slice a being's stomach open, spilling their innards upon their own feet; a most gruesome and horrible way to die indeed. The tenants of the temple merged with his assassin training, creating something new and unimaginable. He was a killer with a conscious, a assassin with no master who choose to perform and send his own “messages”.
Twenty years after entering the temple, Requiem left with his very own urumi and two chakram. He decided to continue his wanderings and see what else he could learn. He traveled east, and slowly became involved with the Asian cultures of the world. He ate and camped with Mongolians in the great Gobi Desert, then traveled along the Great Wall of China and spent some time with them, learning their language and quite a bit about their culture. However he didn't stop for long and traveled further east until he came to the East China Sea. Once there, he purchased a fishing ship and set sail. Once far enough out to see he sunk the ship and flew the rest of the way to what was Japan. He settled there and soon found a sensei, who took the “young man” under his wing. It was amazing to Requiem as much like the tenants of the Indian monks the bushido of the samurai where. The bushido where almost exactly what the tenants where in India, only they where exemplified in a different order and under different names. Gi was morality or doing the right thing in one’s mind. Yuuki was courage and bravery. Then there was Jin, or benevolence for others. Such that samurai who had the power both physically and legally to kill should not always do so. There was Rei, or respect and politeness shown in society that was expected with other people. Makoto was to truthfulness and not only in words but in action. Requiem had issues with this virtue, having come from a background of lies and trickery as well as lying about who he really was. Meiyo meant honor, for a good reputation was extremely important for a liar and cheat could never be trusted. Finally there was Chuugi, or loyalty. This one Requiem also had issue with, having never had anybody to be loyal to and no ndugu to bestow it upon. Along with the tenants that Requiem studied and tried to learn and follow, he was taught the way of sword as well. He became adept in the way of the katana that the samurai seemed to favor. However he tried to follow the tenants that he had learned in the Indian temple and here in Japan. Soon he had a new weapon crafted fro himself, one that he could use originally in a none lethal manner yet could quickly become offensive and lethal should Requiem need it to. He had his primary weapon crafted specifically for himself. It was a metallic quarterstaff that was forty six inches in length to be wielded as a blunt weapon to disable opponents and render them unconscious, yet it was also able to split apart in to two blades that where hidden inside should Requiem require a more lethal attack to defend himself and those he loved and cared about deeply while if the two ends where placed together they would be twisted together and locked in to a double bladed staff. He was terrifying and terrible with the weapon, able to rain hard blows upon a person and knock weapons from hands, block and strike in almost motion without having to exert extra energy. Eventually, Requiem’s sensei had no more to teach him and claimed the “boy” a man and sent him out to seek his own way in the world while reminding him to live by and obey the way of warrior else things would not end well for him.
Requiem was intent upon returning to his exploration of the world, however fate stepped in and called upon him. His “father” came to Requiem, beseeching the male to come with himself to Shangri-la. He begged his son, saying there where important things that they needed to speak about and that he (his father) needed to ask of him. Requiem relented, and followed his father to Shangri-la. There, his father introduced Requiem to his new mate and offspring which where Requiem’s half siblings which where sphinx born between his father and his new sphinx step mother. Despite the astounding news about this new found family that Requiem had not known he had, his father also delivered the bad news, the true reason he had begged him to come to Shangri-la. His father believed there was tension between a collection of people upon earth and the deities of Shangri-la and that is was their duty as Sphinx to protect the deities with their lives. Requiem was hesitant to use his abilities to defend beings he did not know nor had earned his trust and respect. However, he kept the first virtue in his mind and realized it was his duty to help protect these so called “gods” and “goddesses”. So he remained within Shangri-la and kept watch over the city. Forsaking his human form he took his true form of magnificent and beauty to accomplish this job. Then, eventually when they were all least expecting it the day came. The group known as Antithesis attacked Shangri-la. Requiem was not sure how they came to be there or what it was they had against the deities. However it was his duty, and he would fight with honor. It quickly became apparent that these people had some sort of sorcery as powers and abilities did not against whoever these people where and many gods and goddesses died along side their sphinx allies. However Requiem was not use to using abilities and powers to attack, but instead his weapons and skills. He slayed many of these “Antithesis” and wounded many more, yet even a being as powerful as himself are not infallible. He attacked a group of three Antithesis, and he managed to grab hold of them and transported them to the Earth just in case they should escape him they would no longer directly threaten Shangri-la. He succeeded in managing to slay the beings, yet sustained horrific injuries to himself.
Requiem awoke, somehow no longer in his true form but his human form. He was lying upon a bed and his wounds where healed. He knew not how long he had lain there, or who had rescued and healed him. Whoever it was had already left. Standing up he found he was bare as a babe and quickly found cloths left for him. His chakram where gone, lost in Shangri-la during the battle as was his whip sword. All he had left was his staff, severely broken and battered. He waited several hours for whoever it was to return who had saved his life, yet nobody came. Yet he could clearly hear a voice in his head, repeating over and over three words. He couldn't even tell if it was a male or female voice. All he could recall was just those three words, repeated upon what seemed a breathy, beautiful but neutral voice, telling him “I am Yoya.”Requiem left the place he had awoke, and spent several days searching for this Yoya in the surrounding areas but could find nothing. So he left, to enter the world once more and attempt to find this “Yoya”’ who had clearly saved his life. He made his way back to Japan to visit with his sensei that he learned was becoming elderly and dying now. It was a natural part of life, and Requiem knew there was nothing to stop it from happening. He simply wished to pay his respects to his ‘elder’ and let him know how much he appreciated the man’s teachings. After his sensei’s death, Requiem sought out a master sword smith to re-craft his weapons. His two chakram, crafted in the likeness of “mythical” dragons that he knew all too well to be real yet wouldn't tell the humans such a thing. His rare urumi was much harder to create then the chakram, but after several attempts the swords master succeeded. Finally his personal and preferred weapon was made, the staff weapon he preferred and wielded before his others.
With his weapons once more in hand, Requiem set out to create something. He wanted to create what his father once was, an elite group to protect others and dedicate their lives to protecting those who needed protection. He wanted to recreate the Praetorians in his image, an elite group based upon the Bushido code of conduct. He wanted it to be something to be both feared and respected with awe and reverence not as a killing force but a force for good and protection. He moved to Germany, and began to gather a following of people who seemed interested in his goals, yet secretly they did not share the same strict morale code as he did. He continued building the organization, and they then became known as the Predator Syndicate, much to the dismay of Requiem who didn't like that they changed the word Praetorian. They continued working, and behind his back a sect of three vampryes who where Requiem’s three in command beneath him began to do secret experiments. They wanted to create a being, or a group of beings that would equal their leader and with these beings they could lead and direct the humans in to an “enlightenment” like stage where supernaturals where there betters. They left blue roses upon the step of “appropriated’ experiments and specimens for their parents or care takers to find before bringing them back to their base where the experiments began. However, like all things Requiem eventually became aware of these highly disturbing experiments and ordered them stopped. They refused, and a rift began in the organization that quickly widened and became a chasm that could not be healed. Requiem left the group, disgusted with what he had accidentally created within these vamprye’s and their experiments. The humans of the group rapidly followed in fear, and became the founders of what would become one of the world’s most dangerous groups: Nazis. Requiem himself left both groups and the entire section of the world, moving westward where began to work as what could only be considered a vigilante. He strove to protect those who needed protection, and help those who needed help. He recreated his old persona, only highly modified. Midnight Ace was alive once more, and protecting the innocent and leaving messages to those who abused their power and abilities that they would not be allowed to do such for very long.
Still Requiem was attempting to create such a group as well, only this time he was doing it in secret. He would scope out people, judging their skills and their morals before talking to them. He wouldn't actually invite them to the group or even mention it, not wanting a repeat of what had happened last time. Instead he gathers them in secret by scoping them out and watching them from afar for years each. Eventually, he gathers a pseudo-praetorian guard which became useful almost instantly as The Great War, or world war one broke out upon the world. He used his “team” as a strike force against the Central powers, attacking in specific spots and in guerrilla warfare style to hinder the Central Powers. He pushed and fought them back, hoping to eventually what he thought as “cancel out the evil” he had created within the group with his failed attempted to create a Praetorian guard. He and his team of special men and women fought viciously, helping the Allies win many battles and eventually defeat the Central powers. After the war was won, Requiem and the group slipped in to the shadows and disappeared but continued training and working together, while Requiem went back to his search for the still mysterious Yoya. However he was quickly required to abandon his search once again and help the Allies in a Second World War, and once again he and his pseudo-praetorians helped the allies although this time they were suddenly opposed by what could only be surmounted by their opposite in power upon the Axis’ side. Somebody had created a group to oppose himself and his guard. A special team that left blue roses upon the fields of their slaughter to taunt himself, and Requiem knew exactly who they were. How could they still be alive, and how was it they had succeeded in doing this ghastly thing? Requiem never got to find out. Eventually, with the help of the American’s the battle was run but the Blue Rose Syndicate was never captured or destroyed. Requiem knew that eventually he would run in to them again, and he prayed that he would be strong enough to oppose them and stop the treachery they were bringing upon the world in their own ways.

Not currently in any factions. He doesn't worship anybody, however he prays to Niamh due to his assassin style of fighting typically.
