Sherrilyn Kenyon. All of her books are awesome. Christopher Paolini's series "Inheritance Cycle". Orson Scott Card's series "Ender's Saga". Rick Riordan has three teen novel series covering mythological subjects. All are great reads. Tamora Pierce's series "Circle of Magic" and "The Circle Opens" Of course, there's J.R.R.Tolkien and maybe J.K.Rowling.

I don't know what all the moaning and groaning about them is, but I personally think that The Iliad and The Odyssey were good, as well as Great Expectations. There's also Karen Travis, who has established a lot of lore in the Star Wars universe as far as Mandalorians and the lives of Clones go, if you're into that.

Stephen King is supposed to be fantastic, but I haven't read anything of his so I wouldn't know.

Worships Balance
Varos has a very symmetrical look, giving her a strange, unearthly beauty. Her favorite form has grey eyes and red hair. She usually seems quite calm, with the shadow of a smile on her lips and a hint of a frown around her eyes.

To be honest the only thing I read of Stephen King is his 'On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.'
As for favourite books, well, I've read hundreds of books and haven't ever chosen a favourite. Mercedes Lackey has some good fantasy. J.K Rowling was wonderful growing up, and I still enjoyed Percy Jackson despite the lower age intention. Personally, I love dystopian novels (From popular modern ones like Hunger Games and Maze Runner to older ones like 1984, the Chrysalids, the Giver, Brave New World). Anyhow, the list goes on. Like I said, I never picked a favourite.
Edit: I can't believe I forgot Clockwork Orange. It would be in the top ten for sure.

I like the Dexter Series by Jeff Lindsay - not Horror, but a damned good read.
And if no ones said them yet - The Game of Thrones Series - George Martin.
Oo - or even anything by Darren Shan!
Or Terry Pratchett!
