Chaltah could feel the magic building. She was sensitive to magic emanations and especially with them being so close it felt like it was just enveloping the whole room. "Let's hope it doesn't explode" she says softly as everything and finally reaching the final moment.
Stormchaser moves from his spot by the window and over to Chaltah, standing protectively in front of her in case this whole thing did cause some kind of explosion he could protect her from the blast. He swallows hard. Even for be a dragon this whole experience was very intense for him. He had never known such power like what was going on existed any more. Though it explained why the scroll had been locked away for as long as it had been.
Chaltah's heart was racing harder than it had before. In the moment she was thinking up a song to share with others about the whole adventure. She was also wondering who she would share it with. Perhaps other supers or even some accepting mortals. But first things first, her eyes were fixed on the bowl... waiting.

As all of the ingredients were fully melted and mixed, the contents began to glow, the light growing brighter and brighter until Gram had to squint his eyes to look at it, finally covering them to protect them when the light grew too bright for him, a loud ringing sound emanating from the bowl.
Suddenly, moments later, a bright beam of light and energy shot up from the bowl, tearing through the ceiling. The beam expanded beyond the bowl until the entire room was full of light. Drew stood in front of Gram in an effort to shield him, but it was pointless. Seconds passed and everyone in the light was unharmed as the ringing sound died down and the light faded away.
When Gram opened his eyes to look, a clean, perfect hole with a diameter of the bowl was burned above where the bowl had sat. The bowl and stove were gone and there were two figures, obscured by a sort of white mist, leftover remnants of the rituals power that had yet been dispersed. When it cleared, he had difficulty keeping his chin from hitting the floor.

Chaltah turns her head away as the light blasted through the room. It was impossible to see anything at that point and was glad that Stormchaser was there to give her assurance that the world was still there. As the light faded and she was able to see again she turns to see the two figures standing there in place of where the bowl and the stove had been. She also was in shock to see what she saw. It was hard to believe what she was seeing.. and she had seen a lot. Stormchaser was a little confused as well but moves back as it seemed things were having some sense of normalcy for the moment.
One of the figures looked to be female and gazes in her direction. The creature shifts its weight on large paws, she could see a deep grey tone to the fur as the mist started to clear from the room. The hair on the head was also the same color as the fur and skin tanned from a long time spent in the sun. Green eyes gazing directly into Chaltah's own. She swallows hard "Sphinxes"

Gram stared, focusing on just one of the figures that became clear once the mist dispersed entirely. His mouth went dry and he couldn't look away, he couldn't move a muscle. In front of him, Drew was fighting similar feelings, but he knew that if one of these creatures attacked, there was nothing he could do.
Pulling himself together somewhat, Gram moved around Drew so he could get a better view, never taking his eyes off the figure. Standing there, was a large male sphinx. Powerfully muscled, the creature was huge and incredibly intimidating. Every instinct within the young man was telling him to young. His inquisitive brain told him to stay.
The male sphinx was a rich tawny color, his fur occasionally broken by impenetrable slashes of black. On his back were two large dark, golden brown wings that looked as if their span was wider than the room's walls would permit, unfurled. Surrounding a handsome, chiseled face was a thick, dark golden mane that grew darker until black at it's edges.
He watched Gram just as closely as the young man was watching him, with glittering golden orbs that attracted with their beauty, only to draw one into the deep black of his pupils. Gram could not look away. The young man attempted to swallow to appease his dry throat when the sphinx spoke in a rich baritone that carried a heavy, almost authoritative weight behind it. Though spoken calmly, his question demanded an answer.

Chaltah didn't know what to say as the male sphinx spoke. Though his voice was calm, she was rather intimidated by his presence and the way he carried himself. Her gaze only broke when the first one spoke for a second before returning to the female sphinx who was still staring back at her. "Uh... I... think we're still in Africa. Aren't we Gram? Just a short drive from Lake Victoria"
Stormchaser remained quiet. This didn't seem like the place for him to speak as the pair of sphinxes seemed to be rather intent on Chaltah and Gram. He was just as star struck as the rest of those present in the room. Sphinxes were creatures of legend yet there were two of them, standing before them.
"We thank you for your assistance in our return to this world" the female spoke with a soft, yet still powerful, voice. It almost sounded like silk would feel on a person's skin.

When Chaltah spoke, the male sphinx shifted his gaze from Gram who looked visibly relieved to be out from underneath the weight of his gaze. "Earth then..." The male sphinx said to himself, glancing about the room the practiced eye of a warrior studying the battlefield. Eventually his gaze settled on Stormchaser.
When the female sphinx next to him spoke, he did not glance from Stormchaser, though he did nod his head in agreement. "What year is this?" He asked, his body language not betraying the fact that he seemed unsure of how long he'd been imprisoned.
Gram looked at him quizzically, wondering how the sphinx would be unaware of where and when he was. Then understanding dawned on him. "You ask as if you have been away and you speak of Earth as if there is somewhere else we could be. Why?" The thought of other worlds accessible to supernatural creatures fanned the flames of curiosity within the young man.

Stormchaser would visibly stiffen as the gaze of the male sphinx turned his way, locking eyes with the being. There was so much power that lay beneath the surface of the being. So much he wasn't even sure if being in his true form would be enough to take on the ancient being. "It's... two thousand fourteen." he manages to say.
Chaltah could not tear her gaze away from the female as it stood there. It almost felt as if it was boring into her soul, searching for something. Her gaze shifts from Chaltah to Gram a moment as he asks his question "There are worlds where mortals cannot tread without the aid of the gods themselves" was her answer. Chaltah felt the same relief that Gram felt when that gaze moved off her and relaxes some though the thoughts of other worlds mentioned was an interesting subject.
"What kind of worlds are there?" she asks, wondering if this was good question to be asking these beings only after she asked

When Gram asked what other world he could mean, the sphinx remained quiet while the female sphinx answered his question, keeping his eyes on Stormchaser. He eyed him without hostility, but neither was he willing to shift his gaze elsewhere, at the moment.
The male sphinx grumbled slightly. "I have been gone for a long time, it would seem. Tell me, how fares the United States and their fight for independence?" He asked, a modicum of urgency in his tone. He had indeed been gone for some time.
When Chaltah asked about what other kinds of worlds there were, the male sphinx slowly shifted his gaze from Stormchaser an looked at her and answered. "Worlds where over curious humans often come to short, violent ends."
Gram resisted the urge to gulp. "Who are you?" He asked the two sphinxes, wishing to know their names. The two creatures, while intimidating, fascinated him.

Stormchaser wondered what it was the sphinx was looking for as they stared back and forth across the room. He didn't say anything until another question was brought about about America "They won. Been their own nation for over two hundred years. And they have grown from the thirteen colonies to fifty states" history was his thing. He enjoyed talking about it "Before that though they ended up fighting each other over the matter of slavery between the north and the south and-"
Chaltah speaks up "Storm. I think that's enough of a history lesson." she comments before the male turns to gaze at her to further answer the question, sending shivers down her spine. "I... see"
The female sphinx looks between the people in the room before returning the gaze to Gram once more "I am called Laruta" she would let her companion introduce himself if he felt so inclined

At the news of the United States' successful fight for freedom and subsequent prosperity, the male sphinx actually smile. Gram found the expression peculiar, for he seemed almost wistful. But the male sphinx's expression soon grew hard again, as he no doubt remembered how he'd, apparently, lost some two hundred years of his life.
After Laruta told them her name, the male sphinx spoke again. "I am Talos." He proclaimed his name proudly before looking at Gram, Chaltah, and Stormchaser each, individually. "I am thankful for the service you three have provided us, in freeing us from our imprisonment. As such, feel free to contact me whenever you require aid. I will always be willing to assist you. But first, tell me each of your names."
Gram swallowed before stepping forward and speaking. "I am Nathaniel Gram." After saying his name, Gram stepped back to allow Chaltah and Stormchaser to introduce themselves.

Chaltah stepped up next, giving a slight bow of respect to each of them "I am Chaltah Songblade." she steps back and looks back and forth from one to the other while Stomrchaser introduced himself.
It was odd to be introducing himself but he bowed as well to them, lower than Chaltah had as he spoke "I am Stormchaser. I have no last name" he rises and rubs his neck for a second as he was once more looking into Talos' eyes.
Laruta nods to each of them as they introduce themselves "As Talos has said, if you need assistance, I will also give you whatever help you need. She starts moving toward the windows where they were standing. "we have much to catch up on Talos. Who knows what other things have happened in our absence" she turns back to her male counterpart "Let us go now before we attract unwanted attention."

Talos nodded his agreement. It certainly was time for them to leave and let the humans get back to their lives. "I bid you farewell, Nathaniel Gram, Chaltah Songblade, and Stormchaser. May we meet again." With that, Talos left the building. Once outside, he spread his massive wings and flew away. First things first, he needed to catch up on the past couple hundred years.
Gram watched the majestic creature leave and, once they were both gone, he turned to Chaltah and Stormchaser. "Well, that was... certainly something, wasn't it?" Drew still looked a bit dumbfounded and he didn't speak after the sphinxes had left. Gram himself still looked a bit shaken.
The ritual hadn't been quite what he'd hoped for, but after several deaths he was glad to have accomplished something good. At least, Gram hoped he'd done something good. While the sphinxes had been present, he'd been to frightened to ask. "What do you think they did, if they did anything, to be imprisoned for so long?"

Chaltah stood there quietly after the two sphinx had left, Laruta following after Talos into the distance. She at last turned to face Gram "What is to say what they did was bad? Perhaps they were lured into a trap and locked away so there would be no defense." she looks back out over the landscape "Perhaps the one named Talos had been locked away by others that worked for the british to try and even the odds"
Stormchaser nods in agreement "It seems to be that he was in favor of the American dream. It would not be surprising that others fighting against that cause would do something to stop him from interfering. Though it didn't make much of a difference. But perhaps more deaths and maybe if he had been around, the building of America might have been different than it had been" he was starting to ramble again on the subject of history until Chaltah stopped him once more
"We get it, Storm. But I wonder why Laruta was imprisoned. She didn't seem like much of a figher. She seemed more reserved than the other" she stood there a moment longer before turning to Gram once more "I suppose that it then? Your quest is complete and you now have the alliance of a sphinx or two on your side. What are you going to do now?"
Post by Nathaniel Graham on Nov 5, 2014 2:35:41 GMT -5
Gram shrugged. "That's the thing. We don't know why they were imprisoned." He looked off into the distance toward where the sphinxes had gone. "For all we know, we may have just unleashed a great evil upon the world." He shrugged, obviously not appearing worried. "But of course, they may have done nothing to warrant such a cruel punishment."
"I'm sure they both have more than a few interesting stories to tell about their lives before imprisonment. Neither really struck me as the evil type. They both seemed quite noble, really."
In response to what Chaltah asked, Gram shrugged again. "The quest is over. I have a lot of responsibilities and I can't be away from my companies much longer. We faced more than a few hardships along our quest, but it wasn't all bad." Gram ran one hand through his blonde hair, pushing the unruly mess back from his tired eyes. "I guess this is goodbye." He waved to the both of them as he left. "If you two are ever in New York, look me up." With that, he and Drew left, headed for the airport where they would take the jet back to America.
