The world worked on balance. Balance between what people referred to as "good" and "evil." Balance between light and dark. Balance between life... and death. Everything had something to keep it balanced. Those who watched over the planet liked balance too. The deities sought balance, some for the continued functioning of the planet, others... for their own goals. So it wasn't a surprise that when Locutus learned of something threatening to disrupt this balance, he was not at all pleased.
Deities were very difficult to deceive. They were even more difficult to hide from. This disturbance came in the form of a human, who just... wasn't satisfied being human. Whispers on the wind told him this person was plotting something big, something... unholy. At a glance it was hard to tell what. His eyes had been turned upon this individual, watching, analyzing. He thought about continuing to watch from a distance, after all surprise was a huge key that could work in someone's favor. However, he was learning nothing from it, and he needed to know before it was too late. From the outside it was clear that this person was after the elementals. Now why would they do that? Was it personal? Was they looking for something? There were a lot of questions. Locutus liked questions, he liked giving questions, he liked questions being asked. The wealth of knowledge, the mystery... they opened doorways to untold fortunes. These questions however, needed answered... and now.
This particular problem brought him back into the States. It was familiar territory to him. It was home of the Northern Timber wolf, one of the particular animals he favored. The location in question was a military installation. More specifically high end, and one of those high security, out in the middle of nowhere bases. Officer.... likely a General. This would be problematic. One does not kill an officer within the United States Armed Forces, and expect no one to notice. Even if he was at no personal risk, killing a general? There would need to be a lot of work done to keep others from raising an alarm. The last thing he wanted was to set the world into another war.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locutus heaved a sigh as he slipped back from his thoughts. There would be time to think later. Now the deity needed to get into gear. He picked up his glass of water and leaned back into the chair, throwing back the container and emptying the contents into his mouth which he swallowed. He then set the glass back on the table as he looked over at the chair across from him. Slumped down in the seat was an unfortunate military personnel. Sergeant Major Dwight Howard. His eyes were wide open, but they could no longer see. Locutus had asked the man for a chat, discerned that he worked on the base he intended to head to, and then killed the man.
Normally he would have just got what he had needed to and left, but this man was working for someone who Locutus considered to be a problem, and already Locutus intended on using his identity to get on base, and he really didn't need Dwight showing up and raising questions. The deity pushed himself up from his seat, walking around the table to rifle through the man's pockets until he found what he was looking for. He retrieved the man's identification card. This would work perfectly. He then left the man in his seat. Dwight wasn't expected to be on duty for another six hours. That would give Locutus plenty of time to get in and do what he intended to do.
Locutus strode towards the exit of the small building. Dwight was in a far enough corner of the building that they wouldn't find him at least until he was supposed to be at work anyway. He reached into his own pocket and pulled out the shades he had acquired in Brazil and donned them before he stepped out into the street. It was still early in the afternoon and the sun was up. The sun reflected off his head and shades as he strode towards where his car was parked. He opened the door and slid into the vehicle, buckling up the harness before he started the Corvette. The vehicle roared to life and he slipped it into first gear before he pulled out. He took things slowly, not wanting to draw any attention before he actually needed to. He pulled onto the road when it was clear and set off towards the base.
After a good thirty minutes of driving he came upon the base, well outside town and far enough away to detract any unwanted eyes or stragglers. He turned the car onto the road towards the base's main gate. Here he weaved in and out of the installation's speed deterrence. Ever since that attack on U.S. soil several years ago, military installations had taken to erecting barricades to prevent vehicles from speeding through with possible bombs. Once he waved through the vertical barriers he came up to the gate. Secondary precautions dictated that they now did ID checks. Sometimes it was everyone in the vehicle, usually however it was just the driver.
Locutus was fortunate that most military personnel now had a habit of living beyond their means. The gate guard of course would not question the sight of a brand new Corvette. He was also glad they rotated their gate personnel. Even if it was a common rotation, he knew the gate guard wouldn't know Dwight's face by name. Not with all the base inhabitants, and not with the rotation of their assignments. He pulled up to the checkpoint and held out Dwight's ID card. A woman greeted him and offered a smile as she took the card. She then raised it up to her scanner. It was child's play to cause the scanner to malfunction. The woman blinked and whined as the device failed to operate properly. She tried a second time... and a third. Still, she met with no success.
The woman gave a sigh and turned to Locutus. "I'm sorry, the scanner's acting up, this will only take a moment." With that she stepped into the small building. She made a call on the radio for another scanner before she called in Dwight's ID. As the radio didn't offer a picture, like the ID card, and scanner did, she wouldn't have known that he used his powers to change the ID card to have his picture on it instead of Dwight's. The man over the radio cleared the card and she came back out of the building, offering Locutus the card back. "Sorry about that. Have a great day." The woman blushed and offered a smile and a wave. Locutus chuckled softly. "It was no problem." He then stepped off the brake, letting the clutch slip out to the point it held the vehicle without going back or engaging, and pushed the accelerator slightly as he let the clutch out the rest of the way.
The vehicle advanced down the path into the base, passing several display monuments along the way. Dwight had said that someone by the name of Atrax was the one Locutus should see concerning anything he would need concerning the base. Atrax was the go to man. the Sergeant had also mentioned that Atrax was... a general. How convenient. The installation was big, and Locutus didn't have the luxury of searching for the man room by room. Dwight had insisted on setting up a meeting with the general and then coming to take him, but that would have put a knot in his plans. So instead Locutus had to find him on his own. That's when the deity gave a soft chuckle, by chance he passed the administrative office, where he had intended to make a quick stop at.
The man turned the corvette into the parking lot, where he found a space and shut off the machine. He unbuckled himself and pushed open the door before stepping out. Another woman gave a nod and a smile as she headed towards her vehicle as Locutus passed. He nodded back to her and reached out to open the door of the office, and stepped inside. There he made his way up to the desk up front. He was greeted by a man, who also smiled to him. This smile was a bit less comforting than the smiles the two females had given, though perhaps it just was that the smile didn't go with the man's face. Judging by his uniform the man was a Tech Sergeant. When Locutus leaned upon the desk the man spoke up "Yes sir, is there something I can do for you today?"
Locutus gave a nod and then a slight smile of his own before speaking in one of his friendlier voices. "Yeah, Sergeant, I was wondering where I could find General Atrax? He had scheduled a meeting with me but I'm new to the area and forgot to ask where his office is." The man gave a slightly funny look at the deity before sparing a glance to his screen for a moment. He quickly looked back up to Locutus and smiled once more. "General Atrax's office is in the command post, sir. Shall I call his office to let him know you've arrived Miiiister....?" The man was obviously asking Locutus's name. He chuckled and held up his hands. "No, no. I was told he would be quite busy today, I wouldn't want to disturb him during any of his meetings. Besides I have a couple things to do real quick before I go there anyway. Oh and the name's Locutus. Locutus Ferox." He was confident the man wouldn't know who he was. He didn't look the sort to chase after what most normal humans thought of as ancient myths.
"Right, Mister Ferox. Well, have a great day, and if you need any more help just come back and talk to me, okay?" Locutus gave a nod before pushing away from the desk and heading right back out the door. He passed by a man who was a bit less friendly then the rest of the people here had been so far, completely ignoring him as he even bumped into his shoulder. Locutus chuckled but kept on his path. He got back into his car, strapping himself in before starting it and pulling out of the parking lot and back onto the road. He had spotted a map in the administrative office that had everything color coded so that someone unfamiliar with the installation, like him in this instance, could find everything easily. One of the places on the map he spotted, was one of the armories.
Locutus turned the vehicle down one street, and then another, and another before he came upon the armory. He turned the vehicle into the parking lot yet again, shut it off, and stepped out. This place would be a little trickier as it was authorized personnel only. Granted that meant pretty much anyone on the installation could access it, visitors however, were another matter entirely. Locutus entered the armory and walked up to the man at the desk. "I'm sorry sir, but this place is off limits to civilians. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Locutus simply gave a somewhat "embarrassed" smile. "I just need to use the bathroom if that's alright?" The officer raised a skeptical brow. "The bathroom sir? Sir this is an armory." Locutus butted in before the man asked him to leave again. "I know, but I really have to go."
The man behind the desk sighed heavily before pushing himself to his feet. "Alright, one moment." The man walked over and unlocked the door that separated him and Locutus. He then opened it when Locutus stepped through. Suddenly there was a wet slush sound followed by soft cracking as a blade sunk into his throat up into his head. Locutus grabbed the man's keys as he let the body slump to the floor. He then stepped back out and proceeded into the main armory. Once inside he grabbed himself a tactical vest off of the nearby rack. It wasn't a bulletproof vest, but it didn't need to be. He then advanced towards the gun racks. What would he take? He didn't particularly like firearms, but this situation called for them. He wanted to make any death look like a simple crazed gunman rather than an irritated deity.
He scanned the armory's inventory before he found himself two handguns that he fancied. They were a pair of M1911 .45 ACP pistols. He slid those into the vest before proceeding on. There he found an SR-25, which was basically an upscale M-16 chambered for the 7.62mm round versus the M-16s 5.56. It was also only semi-automatic but that was all he needed. He searched around and found a suppressor that would fit the rifle. The rifle already had a scope on it, as well as a bi-pod so he had all that he needed for it except ammunition. In his search for that he came upon a shotgun. Looking it over he nodded and packed that in along with everything else. The shotgun went into a holster on his left side, easy for him to draw out if trouble came. Once he had his weapons he secured the ammunition for them and made for the exit.
Once outside he got back into his car. Now came the tricky bit. Being armed to the teeth was bound to draw attention, so his next stop would have to be the command building. He'd also have to park close. It was bound to be guarded and the last thing he needed was to give someone time to react to his fully armed presence. Locutus started the vehicle and pulled back onto the road for a second time. The deity turned the car through the network of roads, passing by various military vehicles along with the cars and trucks of base personnel and visitors alike. Along the way Locutus noted the air pads that were occupied by choppers. A few of the birds were taking off and landing, likely conducting exercises or some other routine tasks.
Finally Locutus found himself in front of the command building. The building was possibly one of the oldest structures on the base, but it still looked to be in far better condition. That seemed to be common military practice. It wasn't unusual for the command units to "live" in the best comfort and style. Then again, when wasn't that the style? Unfortunately the spots up front were always reserved for commanding units as well, but Locutus didn't have much of a choice. He pulled his vehicle up into a spot near the front of the building. The sign read that it was reserved for a Major. Locutus hoped that one wouldn't show up while he was here.
Taking a deep breath he unbuckled himself from the harness and opened the door of the vehicle. Then without waiting he closed the door and advanced towards the office building. Immediately a man who was stationed at the door brought his attention to Locutus. He blinked as he saw the armed individual and for a moment didn't know how to react. Locutus didn't stop advancing, not giving the man any more time to react. Finally the soldier got it together. "Hold, Sir! Stop right there!" He raised his gun towards Locutus, aiming down the sight. Locutus still did not stop, continuing on his path towards the door. "Sir, I will not say it again! HOLD IT!" Locutus finally stopped and looked at the man as if he was surprised the soldier had a problem. Seeing Locutus had stopped the soldier slowly advanced upon the deity. "IDENTIFY YOURSELF," the man shouted as he closed in on the bald man wearing shades. "Ferox. Locutus E." The deity's reply was cool and unalarmed.
The man closed the gap between them. Had things gone as he intended, the soldier would have asked Locutus to disarm himself. Instead, as soon as the man got close enough, Locutus quickly reached to his left, and whipped out the shotgun with one hand. The end of the barrel pressed against the other man's chest before he could blink. "JESUS!" Came the man's startled reply. His hands came off of his weapon, which had it not been on a sling over his shoulder, would have dropped to the ground. Instead it merely hung limply as the man held his hands up in the universal surrender pose. It didn't much matter to the deity. The man was armed and thus a problem. Locutus gave a shrug. "Sorry." Before the man could react to the apology the deity squeezed the trigger. Because the weapon was flush against the man's chest, the report of the firearm was reduced to a dull thud. One that might have been able to be heard inside the entryway to the office, but not much further.
Blood sprayed out behind the man as the blast tore through him. The unfortunate man was dead before he hit the ground. Locutus sighed as he looked at the body, however; he didn't have time to stop. He grabbed the handle action of the shotgun and pulled it back, discharging the spent shell, which gave the faintest wisp of smoke as the empty case bounced off the ground three times before it came to a rest. He then pushed the grip back forward until it clicked into place, a fresh round ready to go. The shotgun was slid back into the holster as he advanced towards the door. He opened it and then stepped inside.
The office was decorated elaborately. Real wood and fake filled the interior, dotted with equally mixed real and fake plants. Locutus rounded the hallway till he came upon two soldiers guarding another set of doors. He advanced upon then until they commanded him to halt. One of them spoke up as he stood in front of them. "Sir, we cannot allow you to proceed any further into this building while you are armed. Please hand over your weapons." Locutus sighed again. He'd be able to shoot one of them in time... but not both. Not without one of them firing their weapon... which would alert anyone nearby. So instead he decided that they would simply... kill each other. One of the soldiers suddenly reached for their knife and drew it out. The other soldier didn't have much time to react. "What the--?" Suddenly the two soldiers found themselves interlocked. One with their knife at the other one's throat, and the other with the end of their rifle pushed under the chin of the other.
It was all over in a flash as the first soldier made a slashing motion at the same time the other fired a single round. Again the shot being made flush against the body was muffled, but this time it wouldn't be enough. The other soldier gagged as his throat was cut open and fell against the wall where he would bleed to death, but not before another the door opened as the soldier behind it heard the commotion. This time Locutus raised his own, silenced rifle and let off three rounds into the woman's chest. She fell back to the floor, dead before she dropped. Locutus stepped over the woman's body as he made his way deeper into the building.
Finally upon opening the door at the end of the hallway he came upon the receptionist for the general. She was obviously slightly nervous when the fully armed man advanced upon her desk. She was only armed with her side arm, where as this man clearly had not one, but no less than four firearms within sight. She was certain she would run out of ammunition long before he did if it came down to a fight. Locutus stopped when he reached the desk and spoke in a calm manner. "I'm here to see the general." The woman swallowed and steadied herself. She shouldn't show fear, and she knew that! "Sir, You need an appointment to speak with the general, he's very--" She trailed off as he locked his gaze on hers. This time it took a bit of manipulation but she finally nodded. "Yes sir, right through those doors sir. I will let him know you are coming, mister....?"
The deity turned and headed towards the door as he offered his reply. "Locutus." She then keyed the comm and spoke through it. "Sir, Locutus is here to see you." Without waiting for a reply she let go of the button before setting about to her activities again, albeit with that same nervousness. Locutus similarly did not wait for the man to object. He merely opened the door and proceeded in.
The deity didn't bother looking around the office as he made his way up to the two men sitting around the desk that occupied the far side of it. One of them was definitely General Atrax. The other had been a visitor that was conducting business with the man. Locutus smiled inwardly. Good. He had caught the man while he was busy. He advanced upon the two until he was right next to the visitor who looked up at him with a great measure of surprise. Perhaps it was that Locutus was intruding upon their meeting. The meeting of a man with perhaps the highest ranking individual on the base. Or, perhaps it was the fact that he was intruding on their meeting while being armed with enough firepower to have a hold out in their office for a number of hours.
Locutus set his hand on the man's shoulder, looking at him. "I'm here to speak with the General." The other man nodded as if he understood what Locutus meant, and then got up out of his seat and made his way to the door Locutus had just barged in through, despite any objection Atrax might supply. Those would fall on deaf ears as the subtly entranced man made his exit out of the room. Locutus then swept around and slowly sat in the chair that until recently had been occupied by the man who just made his exit. There he gazed upon the man called General Atrax in complete silence until that latch clicked shut. Then the deity leaned forward, resting his elbows upon his knees. "General. We need to talk."
