*In the depths of the Amazon grows the Izuis flower. It is an odd flower for two reasons. The first being that it only ever grows in a single clearing in the depths of the Amazon Rainforest and the second being that this illustrious flower only blooms once every twenty-three years.
Arthur is an old Light Elementalist living in Kenya and appreciator of nature. He has always had a liking for flowers and even carries a journal around with him documenting all the rare fauna he encounters. He has decided to make this trip all the way from his stone hut. The journey may be perilous or it may simply be a walk in the park. The future is yet undecided yet he is willing to take risk to see this most rare and beautiful flower.
Come one, come all. Appreciators of nature welcome for this RolePlay. As the only requirement to join this thread you simply have to enjoy nature or rather not go about destroying things senselessly as this will only seek to grind on Arthur's nerves.. The RP will start at his stone cabin situated in the Congolian Rainforest of Africa. Through some previous journey or experience everyone who joins (unless you happen across him in the Congolian Rainforest which is unlikely) should have received an invitation to join him on an expedition.*
The birds sang soft songs of days gone by and yet to come. The wind seemed to have stopped and lay still to listen to their beauty. Movement was all around from the tiniest insects found inside trees to the large birds that soared through the sky. The jungle was not a quiet place. The hubbub of nature filled one's ears with the wonder of life.
By a babbling brook in the forests outer layer there is a stone hut. (Description). Here resides a peculiar old man named Arthur (Char App) who's only interest in the realm of mortality lies with nature. This does not make him single-minded however as nature truly encompasses all things. He is rarely irrational but for the times when irrationality is pressed upon him.
Arthur sits cross-legged suspended a few feet above the air. His hands rest by each side in a meditative position. His wooden walking staff stands slanted against the door of his home for support.
“Locutus I pray, I ask your ear, I ask for your guidance, I ask for the courage to help those who cannot help themselves, And I ask for the wisdom to know when to use it.”
[/i]
He floated down to land gently on the earth and he got up. He had many plans for this day and the first required packing. Without further ado the old man swept into his house leaving the door open behind him. Those he had invited to come on his expedition could arrive at any moment...

Quite microscopic in comparison to the sky-high redwoods of the forest; the figure walked noiselessly alongside the gorgeous scenery. Immeasurable trees from which sweet bird song echoed from stood all around the girl. Small red lips curved into an O shape to imitate the lovely music of the winged creatures. A blanket of lush greenery clothed the soft forest floor. Small animals made their way across the small girl’s range of vision. A pause was then taken, eyes closed and head tilted slightly up, a deep breath through the nose to take in the dewy air was made. Sapphire eyes re-opened and her journey was continued.
In thy nature is beauty in thy nature is earth in thy nature i find my worth
in thy nature is peace in thy nature i find myself in thy nature every lasting greens
in thy nature there is more to be seen in thy nature a beauty untold in thy nature everything is worth more than gold
Nature is and has been a key element of Minttu’s being. She is an extremely spiritual person that finds a very sentimental inner connection to mother earth and her children. Minttu’s curiosity for understanding and learning about people is one of the may things that fuels this desire to constantly within nature. Finding people such an interesting thing, Minttu is even more intrigued by the outdoor world. It had been but a mere week since Minttu had abandoned her simple and sheltered life with her parents in Asia and she was eager to begin this new chapter of her life. Somehow she had traveled all the way to Africa and was now in search of one of her family friends, Arthur Winnow, whom she knew only bits of information about. Minttu was beyond positive that Arthur was a perfect person to visit since she somehow ended up in the Congolian Forests of Africa.
Another stop was taken to embrace the beautiful surroundings she was placed in. She rose her head once again, this time to examine the sky. Blue and clear, the weather was very still this morning. Minttu let out a sigh and continued her walk keeping her senses aware. The faint sound of a river or stream was then heard through her ears, a smile crossed her face in knowing that this was a sign that she was growing closer to her destination. Getting impatient Minttu kicked herself up from the earth floor into the air letting her wings zip her body through the air. This windless day created a wonderful opportunity for Minttu to glide through the air quickly and without trouble. The trees were beginning to thin out and after a few minutes Minttu was able to see the forest exit.
Minttu seized flying and let herself land on the grassy floor creating a light noise. What a lovely place, she thought to herself while looking at the babbling brook and the rest of the area. After a few more steps forward were taken she noticed a small round stone hut a few yards away and knew this was the place. Once at the bottom of the steps she took a short moment to admire the home wishing she could live in such a fantastic place. Minttu made her way up the stairs with light footsteps, inhaled and exhaled through her mouth deeply, then knocked three times on Arthur’s wooden door.
(( Is it okay I said he knew her parents? Minttu doesn’t really know anyone that’s why. I couldn’t think of any other reasons she’d have any idea who your character would be since Minttu is all the way from Asia. Let me know if this is alright =D ))

(Of course, Minttu, that’s perfectly fine)
Knock, knock, knock.
Arthur’s grey hair dishevelled and missing its hat rose out of the chest. He imitated a meerkat sentry looking left and right before rising to his full height. He scooped down promptly to acquire his hat before turning to the semi-open door. He strolled over to the door and opened it a little further expecting an invite of the expedition.
A kind smile rose to his lips when he saw who it really was “My, my...” He started in the way that old folk do when they’re trying to remember something. Arthur never really forgot faces and it was a talent he prided himself in. “Green hair, blue eyes, well you must be Minttu Cordiwen. I haven’t seen you since you were just a little fae. Oh that must have been about fourteen years ago meaning you must be seventeen by now. By Locutus, time really does pass...” He opened the door fully to look her over in the way a grandfather would a grandchild whom they have not seen for a while.
“I would ask you in for some herbal tea but my little home is quite a mess. The kettle is outside in any case. Would you like some fresh spring water; collected it only a few hours ago?”Arthur smiled in a genuine way. The Cordiwen’s had always been dear friends to him although it had been a number of years since he had been in the area to visit them. Arthur made a mental note to visit them soon.

In the few short moments of waiting Minttu took another opportunity to examine the exterior of the home even further. Minttu really did find it a nice place, slightly envious of the location it was in. The river was her favorite part, the sound of the water rolling down the rocks was something she found very pleasant. Everything looked so alive and healthy, Minttu appreciated settings like this much more than city areas. She told herself that one day she would have a beautiful home somewhere within nature. The sound of footsteps and the twisting of the doorknob redirected Minttu’s attention. Slightly relieved that Arthur was indeed home, she stood her self up strait and adjusted her shirt trying to seem presentable.
The door opened presenting a face Minttu had not seen in quite awhile. A greeting smile turned into a grin when Minttu knew that she was remembered by her old family friend. Arthur was right, it really had been awhile since they had last seen each other. Minttu wondered if it was strange that she were to just stop by unexpected like this, it was relieving to see that Arthur seemed happy to see her.
“It really has been to long Arthur.” Minttu gave a sincere smile, “and seventeen is correct. You’re what, twenty-four?” She took a step back to let Arthur lead the way to the kettle as she spoke, “I’m sure your home is wonderful, I really like it. That sounds lovely though, thank you so much.” What a kind person, Minttu thought to herself, she really respected nice people.

Arthur smile widened “You’re too kind, my dear.” He said plucking his staff from the doorway. “Twenty-four...” He said to himself and chuckled making his way to the fire pit using the staff to support his walking. The kettle swung gently over in the light wind on the wooden spitfire it hung from via hook.
He looked up at Minttu and studied her face for a moment “You have your mother’s smile.”
“Oh my, I’ll be right back.” Arthur added putting the kettle down at his feet and hurrying over to the small supply shed rustling through it for a few minutes before exclaiming “Aha!” and hurrying back over to Minttu handing her a wooden cup. Picking up the old copper kettle he filled Minttu’s cup.
Hunched over leaning on his staff he gave Minttu a kindly smile. “What brings you to the congo, little fae? I do hope your family is alright.” Concern was etched on his features now but not a panic. It was more of a kindly concern as if to say ‘if this has happened I sympathise with you deeply’.
Although Stilia is usually in a human form, it often mimics her true face. She has large, round eyes, but otherwise her features are quite sharp. She smiles much more then she used to, but usually only out of politesse.
The fresh breeze of air whipping against her face in a flurry of wind was quite refreshing. It was one of her favourite things, along with the feeling of running one’s fingers through a fluffy white cloud, gathering the freezing moisture, and basking within a closer proximity of the sun, letting the light shine against her scales to create small rainbows. All these marvelous feelings, along with the scent of fresh, crisp air, and the slight bite of coolness against her skin, came along with flying. Flying was probably one of Stilia’s favourite things to do. The air was windless, although air whipped at her face by the mere speed she travelled. The sky was mostly blue and clear, so she took great care in flying around any human settlements. But even with the coldness and the cautions taken by flying, it did not ruin the overall enjoyableness of it.
She remembered, back from when she first set out to see the world, how she had dreamed of the mere act of walking upon legs. It had been such a wondrous idea, back then. She had trained long and hard until her body became mere putty, ready to be formed into all sorts of shapes by an act of will. She went through meticulous training, just so she may achieve the legs of the humans. The first time she got to try them out, she had been thrilled. She got to approach a human, without having to hide. She walked among their society, seeing things the books had described with her own eyes. She had set off to the Egyptian desert, on her new legs, just to bask in the feeling of sand in her toes as she hunted for a creature known as the Sphinx. After a bit of time, she had learned she was close to hating those infernal bipedal contraptions. Her new legs had ached, she had been so short in comparison to her usual form, and the feet burned at the touch of the sand. Absolutely horrible.
Flying, on the other hand, was different. Even with the obvious cons, the pros made it all worthwhile. Soon she came across a lush country, and she landed at a nearby landmark she had long ago memorized. She was not too far, nor too near, to her location, but she had been afraid she could not spot it from above. Her body ached from the long flight, but the snake woman paid little heed to her toning muscles. All the baby fat she had possessed before she had set out not-so-long-ago on her quest to experience the world was completely gone, replaced by toned, although not muscular and slightly tanned muscles and skin. Digging into the leather pouch she had once bought to attach to her dagger belt, she pulled out a crumbled piece of paper. She smoothed it out and read it over, before stuffing it back in and beginning her walk.
A small bit of time later, she arrived at a stone hut. She smiled to herself as memories of this place came to the front of her mind. She was definably here. This was the hut of an old friend, one she had met per chance, and had stayed in contact with ever since. The old Light Elementalist was quite the jolly old fellow, sharing Stilia’s love of adventure. She had been quite surprised to receive a letter one day from him, telling her of a quest in which she was free to partake. She had been surprised not by the contents, but of the fact that she had received it in time; being a world traveler and all, receiving letters was a bit hard. But this was Arthur, so the surprise had faded into a small chuckle at the old man’s intuition.
And now here she was, standing before his doorstep. Taking a few slithers as she approached the door, before noticing two faces; one was old and familiar, the other that of a young fae who seemed about her age. She slithered closer, and gave a warm smile. “Arthur, I never knew you kept such young company.”

“Thank you.” Minttu said and grinned again, she took it as a compliment. She had always found her mother on the pretty side. In reply she gave a nod and watched Arthur make his way over to his shed to retrieve a cup. Remembering it was rude to stare, she directed her eye towards the floor to examine the kettle that Arthur had placed there.
Minttu returned Arthur’s kind smile; he had such a welcoming aura about him, something that Minttu very much appreciated in a person. “My family is doing just fine,” she assured him. “I’m just taking my own course in life, I guess.” She took a short pause, “I’m sure they’d love to hear how you're doing.”
Surprised to here another voice Minttu guided her attention to its owner. The first thing she noticed was that this new person was a good three feet taller than herself, not that it was overwhelming in any way on account that she was very used to being the shorter one of the group. Height differences between her and others were something she normally noticed on account she had been with mostly Faes during her life time so very tall figures weren’t an everyday thing for her. She liked it though, wishing she were taller in a way. After the comment about Minttu’s age was made she noticed that this girl was young as well. Glad to have someone in her age group with them now she offered the girl a smile. A little concerned though, that she might of interrupted something, thinking Arthur probably had plans for this day.
“Hello, I’m Minttu.” she held out her hand to Stilia keeping her eyes fixed on her. How interesting beings truly were, that there were people so unlike herself out there. The characters Minttu had grown up with were mostly Fae’s and Angels, this person was extremely different than them. Minttu loved it though, the fact that people come in all shapes and sizes.
“You must of had plans for today,” the comment was directed towards Arthur, “I’m sorry for just dropping by unexpected like this.” Now that she thought about it, it would of been a good choice to give Arthur notice on her visiting, then again this was a last minute idea of hers when she discovered she was in his area. Minttu hoped that she would be able to stay with the two for awhile, having no other plans for this day.

“Not much younger than you, my dear Stilia.” Said Arthur turning to his gorgon friend with a great smile. His heart soared to see his friend. They had not seen each other for a while as well. Not since she had begun her spiritual 'journey'. He studied her closely leaning on his staff for support. She seemed older. He would not say wiser but she had definitely seen more and experienced more than before. He remembered the young gorgon filled with limitless enthusiasm as she looked out into the world long portrayed in her books. He wondered how she had found the difference between that fantasized world and the real one.
“Nonsense, Minttu, I always have time for a friend.” He said reassuringly after Minttu spoke. “This is Stilia Medusa, Minttu.”
“And this is Minttu Cordiwen, Stillia, I've known her parents for many years.” Arthur explained to Stilia. “Would you like some fresh spring water?” He added already making his way to his small shed.

She gave a smile to the short Fae, and lowered her body until she was about the girl’s height. Stilia was perhaps about eight feet, but that was only if she stood on the tip of her tail, which was impossible. Still, she kept much of her body held aloft in the air, and tended to be taller than anyone else, looking about six foot something while the other two feet remained on the ground. So she pressed more of her tail to the ground so that the Fae’s short arm was in reach of her own, and shook the girl’s hand.
She smiled at Arthur. “A few mere moons off? Or only a few months?” She asked Arthur, but returned her attention to the Fae who’s hand she had been shaking. She let go and gave another warm smile. “As our dearest old man has said, I am Stilia Medusa. It is a pleasure to meet you Minttu Cordiwen.” She laughed slightly. “But Arthur and I held no specific date for our plans, and I was already ready to apologize for interrupting. As Arthur has said, please feel the freedom to remain, I would certainly be glad. I must admit, I have never actually met a Fae before, so please excuse me if I begin to question you later on; it is simply such a lovely thing to come across new knowledge.”
Her eyes began scrutinizing the translucent wings upon the Fae’s back, quite liking the way they shone and captured the sun light. Certainly lovely, and she wondered if those fragile things could hold the Fae’s small frame in the air for long. Certainly they were like pieces of paper trying to flap in the air, but perhaps they had unseen strength? This, along with many other questions, already began filling her head, but she gave Arthur a smile. “Oh yes, some water would be nice and refreshing.”

(( Sorry for such a delayed reply, I was at my mom’s this weekend and her internet got shut off for some weird reason. ))
Minttu was relieved she wasn’t interrupting anything, having to leave would of been disappointing. She gave a smile in reply to Arthur and gave her attention to Stilia. “It’s great to meet you as well, to be honest I’ve never met a Gorgon before ether.” she told her and smiled. “I’m sure there are many questions I’ll be wanting to ask you in the future too.” There were many different humanoid species Minttu had yet to meet, being in the presence of Stilia made her excited to see what other kinds of people were out there.
Noticing the gorgon begin to look at her wings, Minttu took a second to admire hers as well. They were much different than the ones Minttu had, now that she thought about it the two were quite the opposite anyway. Not that that was a bad thing, Minttu considered it a good thing. She quite enjoyed meeting knew people, especially if they were considerably different than herself.

(Don’t worry, Minttu. Technically you have to be away for five days before we get mad and in that case you’re quite early )
Arthur stopped almost at his little shed and leaned heavily on his staff thinking. “Oh, well... By my reckoning... Just a few moons after you I believe, Stillia.” He said with some difficulty.
Then he continued into his shed and picked out a few wooden cups thinking ahead in case any more of his letters were answered. “Or was it the other way about.” He mused making his way over to the kettle which he had neatly placed back on the fireplace after filing Minttu’s cup.
He picked up the kettle and walked over to Medusa thoughtfully. “No, no.” He said lightly handing her a cup “You are the eldest.” He sounded certain this time though his words were not infallible.
“Now, how have you been, Stilia, do tell me of your most recent adventures." Arthur asked in a supremely genuine way actually interested in hearing such tales.

She was beginning to quite like this young Fae girl. She held a curiosity in regards to a stranger species, and was quite willing to answer Stilia’s own questions; she was both one of curiosity and one who would sate her own. Quite a pleasant person, in the Medusa’s mind. Their outward appearance was completely different, but she was enjoying the similarities on the inside. Arthur returned, and she accepted the cup with a small “thank you” mumbled.
She smiled in amusement as he debated the ages, but she let it go, his most recent question sparking the fire of adventure within the Medusa, and kindling her love of shared knowledge. “Well my old friend, much has happened since I left the Nest in which I lived. I have met draconians, demons and mermaids. I have seen the Italian country side, the Egyptian desert, and the caves hidden in the sea. I even believe I came across a God, at one point. It has been quite the whirlwind of activity.” She took a sip of the drink she had been given and gave a small smile, “Of course, knowing you, those fish-people are what hold the most interest for you?”
Trying to shorten up the tale, Stilia explained to her friend of how she had suddenly been summoned by some Being and sent to the bottom of the ocean to assist in the liberation of the mermaids. “-as a thank you, they even bestowed on me a shell that will provide their assistance if ever blown.” She smiled and pulled out the lovely shell from the pouch, holding it in cupped hands for Arthur to see before returning it. “How have you spent your time?” She questioned her friend before her eyes fell once more on the young Fae. She realized her story might have been rude or boring to the girl, and she gave an apologetically smile. “I apologize, I always get so caught up in my story telling. Have you yourself experienced any wondrous things?”

Minttu took the wooden cup from Arthur, in return giving him a genuine smile and a sincere “thank you.” She studied the cup, it reminded her of something her family would use. She blew lightly at the fresh spring water* to help it cool.
She listened to Stilia’s stories intently finding them greatly interesting. She couldn’t wait until she were to meet so many new people, and travel to so many new places. What an amazing person, Minttu thought to herself while listening to the Gorgon’s mermaid tale making a note that this was someone she hoped to be spending more time with and getting to know further. She looked at the small pretty shell in pure admiration and awe. Succesful, willful people were characters that Minttu admired.
“No need to apologize.” Minttu said reassuringly, “it’s actually quite interesting.” She paused for a second almost considering to make up a interesting story of fake adventures to tell the two but decided against it. “To be honest, I have yet to have any extraordinary experiences. I guess you could say I’ve just began my journey.”
Post by Arthur Winnow on Jan 26, 2012 6:22:03 GMT -5
“Oh,” Arthur exclaimed “How marvellous! The mer-people are such a wonderful species protecting the Earth’s seas in the way they do. Not only I but the rest of the world owes you, and your companions, a great deal.” Arthur smiled almost proudly “My, you’ve certainly grown up since you left the nest only a short while ago.”
Arthur studied her some more and nodded satisfactorily “I went to Europe, my dear, to stay with the Yetis for a while. The stay was pleasant and I learnt a lot about their society and culture. On the whole though, my dear, I’ve had no marvellous adventures to that calibre since our last meeting. Ah, the beginning is the best part of any journey.” Arthur said aiming the last comment at both of them.
“Did you see any other supernatural creatures on your way or will our party be of two; or three if little Minttu wishes to join.” Arthur asked. He had sent out a handful of letters at best but was somewhat disappointed that only one had answered.

She smiled slightly. “I always seem to blabber on. But I do remember what it was like before I began my journeys, trying to imagine what it would all be like. I was actually terrified the first time I got to get out of the Nest.” She didn’t mention the kidnapping, or how she was caged and showed like some sort of circus animal. It was not necessary, and she had no wish to indulge. Still, it had been that terrifiying event that had given her courage. “But good luck with your own journeys, and I apologize for the apology.”
She watched Arthur’s glee with a slight sense of it herself. She always enjoyed amusing the old man, and knew he would be thrilled over the story. His own peaked her interest, for she had visited very little of the European continent. “Yetis!” She said in wonder, for it was a species she had not yet encountered. “Oh, you really must tell me of it later on, but we have our own adventure to attend to, which I have stalled enough by my own story.”
She shook her head at Arthur’s final words. “No, I saw none as I flew, and none as I slithered through the jungle.” Hopeful eyes fell upon Minttu. Never before had she had the chance to journey with someone her age, a faery, or without the accompaniment of demons with the wish of rape. “You really should come along, get to experience adventure for yourself. Plus, it would save your trip to Arthur’s from becoming pointless.”
