A subtly crooked smile and a small laugh preempted Alan's saying "Sure, so I am. I mean, who wouldn't want you around more? You're funny, charming, a little playful even, a generally enjoyable presence..." He listed items off of a mental checklist, turning on a heel and emphasizing each one with the thud of his shoes on the deck. "I know that I've enjoyed every minute so far," he inserted, leaning against a rail before continuing. "Your smile is infectious, you are bubbly in all the right ways and, if I may be so bold, in all the right places."
A quiet breeze accompanied by the soft lapping of the waves played their tune on the wind, a telltale tempo discernible to those who chose to wait a moment and listen. Breathy whispers wafting around shoulders and caressing ears, misty-eyed phantoms running their damp fingers through hair and leaving tears trailing down skin. Cavernous cries and groans echoed through the open space, rolling off of the tongues of distant foghorns and vessels commanded by captain, by mariner, by man. Deep underwater shrill screams and swishing spines slithered along, natural flora interacting with an alien presence, both hostile, harmless, and curious all at once.
Great beasts below circled and swam, investigating one another, relaying their findings to nearby friends. 'This one is glinting, with scale of green and brown like thick forests of kelp.' one would observe, 'This one is vast, with skin as white as it is black.' would the other.

At first Beth wasn't sure if Alan was joking around, mocking her, or actually meant what he was saying. This was the first time Alan had talked to her like this. She couldn't imagine her friend doing something like that, so she decided to take the compliments. It made her blush and look away. It seemed he just needed some extra time to open up more.
It was quiet for a while, and Beth just listened and took in the sounds of nature. For a while she hadn't even thought about speaking. There was a ton of stuff on her mind including the good time she was having, the new job opportunity, and the guy she was spending her night with.
Beth finally broke the silence after realizing she had been awkwardly quiet for way too long. "Would you like that beer now?" She went and got two bottles, opening one for him and handing it to him before opening up her own.

Alan could almost hear the ticking of the clock, the occasional heartbeat, the sounds of the world spinning. Perhaps the bit about the world spinning was just the sound of water moving against the boat, but it was quiet regardless. Luckily Beth decided to speak up after a while though, just as the captain of the small but wonderfully capable tub was debating whether to apologize or just let himself fall backwards into the deep dark blue.
"What the hell, a beer would be great." He said, taking the bottle from her when she returned. Alan quickly took a gulp of the fluids contained within the murky glass bottle, allowing them a moment to swish around his mouth before swallowing. A moment of trying to guess exactly what it was was followed by him turning to bottle around for a quick look. After another few moments of trying to make out the words on the label, the man shrugged to himself and took another drink.
About halfway through his own bottle, Alan started to notice the cold. It was surprisingly warm actually, but that wasn't saying much when it was regularly in the 50s. The light spraying of foam and seawater didn't do much to help the situation, nor did the light and unrestricted flow of moving air on the open sea. "Getting a little chilly?" He'd ask, taking another sip from his bottle.

Beth took a sip from her bottle and looked to Alan, who seemed to be doing a wine tasting more than drinking a beer. It was pretty cute and caused her to smile again before having another sip. She actually wasn't a huge fan of beer, but this one wasn't too bad.
After a few more moments of silence that gave them time to enjoy their beers, Alan spoke up and asked if she was chilly. She had noticed the the temperature for a few minutes now. Maybe only because she had started drinking a cold beer. There were goosebumps up her arms and her skin was cold to touch. If she had known that they'd be heading out on his boat earlier, she probably would have dressed more appropriate. Either way Bethany was having a good time with Alan, cold or not so she couldn't complain. "I'm fine." she said. She could have said so many other things but all she said was "I'm fine" not saying yes and asking if he could keep her warm, or maybe they could go back inside to one of the rooms and warm up together. Nope. Beth sighed quietly at her lame self and tried her best to ignore the cold.

"You sure? It's pretty cold out here. If you change your mind we can head inside, or if you wanna stay out here... I can probably warm you up a little." Alan responded, gulping down a mouthful of brew. He was done taking his time to taste it, he just wanted something to quench his thirst now. He wasn't about to ask Beth either, for risk of getting slapped, kicked in the groin, pushed over the rails, or a combination of any or all of the three. Sexual harassment charges were also a real bitch to deal with, he knew that from the experience of others.
Taking another drink, he closed his eyes and sighed to himself quietly. When he opened them he glanced over at the woman a short distance away, using the pale darkness to cover his eyes as they briefly roamed around her body. She had a nice figure, not that he didn't already know from the workshop she took with him. After a few moments his eyes returned up to her head, and then to the stars above. His arms spread out along the sides of the cabin he was leaning against, and his head leaned backwards to rest on the metal surface.

She almost couldn't believe it. Alan already had proven he was pretty amazing, and now she found out he could also read minds. Bethany wondered what other talents he had. Her mind wandered off for just a second as she imagined her and her friend doing some inappropriate things together. "You know, I'm actually freezing." She gave an expression of embarrassment and smiled shyly, almost ashamed to admit weakness. "Next time I'll wear more clothing. Could we go inside now? If you don't mind." The young woman rubbed her icy cold arms with her hands in an attempt to make give them some heat, before starting to head in. She stopped to wait for him to catch up. If he walked close enough to her, she'd move in even more and try to steal some of his body heat as well. It really wouldn't help but it was a lame excuse to get a little closer to Alan.

Alan quickly took another drink before raising himself off of the cabin he was leaning against, saying "Well hey, I'm not complaining about what you're wearing. It's warm inside anyways, here, I'll lead you in. Hard to see to the top of the door in the dark."
He walked around a few steps and held his arm out for Beth, his other resting near the nearest doorway. Regardless of whether or she took his arm, he would plant his other firmly against the top of the entrance, buffering any potential head-hitting, and then follow her into the relatively dark interior of the boat.
A lightswitch or four later, the place was lit up and the warm air was starting to cycle through. Figuring now was as good a time as any to give her the tour, Alan pointed out a few rooms and explained them as they passed. The lower decks were left alone for the moment, as the closes thing to a lounge was right up near the top.
Inside the room was a fairly sizable couch, with a heavy wooden table in front of it with maps, an empty mug, and a few notebooks scattered about its surface. "Go ahead and take a seat. Want some coffee while I'm up?" Alan asked, already walking over to a small coffee maker in the rear corner of the room.

Beth couldn't help but notice how he went out of the way to be kind to her again. Making sure she didn't bump her head, and taking her arm to help guide her through the dark. She checked out all the rooms that Alan explained as they went by. There were definitely more rooms than she'd be able to remember. When she starts working on here, she only hopes that she won't get lost too much until she got used to where everything was.
The final room he led her to was the lounge, and it had some really cool maps on a big table. There was also a comfortable looking couch that Alan told her to go sit on while she waited for him. Beth went over and took a seat. It was even more comfortable than it looked. "Sure, coffee sounds nice." She watched Alan as he went over to the coffee pot and began making it for them.
She relaxed and watched him, her eyes glancing over his body. He was definitely attractive, and had a really nice butt. Before she realized it, she was practically undressing him with her eyes. Beth looked away before he turned around and realized how she was drooling over him.

"Heat should be starting to circulate any second now, but if you're still cold I've got a few blankets and such... somewhere around here." Alan said, pouring steaming black fluids into a pair of mugs and bringing them over to the table. Before sitting down he grabbed a small jar of sugar, and a tin of cream from near the machine, and set them down near the mugs.
"You know," he said in between sips from his coffee, "Alternatively, I could probably scoot a little closer, help warm you up a bit." His eyes flicked over to the woman beside him, watching her as he continued to sip from the mug in his hands.
Idly, Alan wondered where Illy might be. He hadn't heard from her for a few hours, which in itself really wasn't much of a concern, but usually she poked and teased at him when he had guests. The fact that she hadn't said anything recently was a bit odd, but he would figure it out later.

"No thanks, I'll be fine." in response to Alan's offer to get a blanket for her. Beth added a little cream and sugar to her coffee before sipping it. The hot drink alone was already beginning to warm her up. Beth couldn't help but give Alan a little smirk. "I'm starting to think you're the one that's freezing." The woman very carefully moved herself closer to Alan, she didn't want to spill hot coffee on his lap. Now their bodies were together, Beth took it a little further and snuggled in closer.. you know, for warmth of course. Once she was comfortable, she asked "Are you warming up now?"
She had to admit, this was nice. Alan was pretty much the ideal man for her. Sweet, caring, and a little sense of humor. He was a hard worker, and always seemed to go out of his way for her. Honestly she couldn't ask for more. The only problem she could see is if she made a move and took things too far, it would probably make it difficult for them to work together in the future, and that would really suck. She decided that she was just over thinking.

"Well I am pretty cool, I admit you've got me there." He said, taking another drink. Once she snugged up to his side he lifted his made a show of very obviously fake yawning, lifting his arm up and around her shoulders as he did so. "Definitely warming up a little, how about yourself?"
Another sip was taken of the coffee in Alan's cup, a few whisperings in the back of his head telling him that his draconic partner in crime was doing just fine. His eyes glazed over for a few moments while he communicated with Illy, both of them updating the other on their respective situations. She was taking a deep dive, hunting something sounding suspiciously similar to a medium sized whale, evidently, which was why she hadn't said anything for a while.
She also teased the hell out of her partner of course, which was to be expected. That was what happened when he told her about any dates, mates, and generally any of the women in his life. Well, that was what he got for telling someone who'd known him for most of his life about the happenings in it. She was always right there to tease him about prior circumstances, and to poke little holes in his ego at all the right times.
He teased her back of course, but that was besides the point. Right now he was simply enjoying the warmth of the person sitting next to him.

"Riiight." she rolled her eyes a little at his comment. Though she had to admit, he was actually pretty cool. Look at where they were hanging out. She smiled at his fake attempt at a smooth move, his yawn to put his arm around her. "I'm pretty warm now too."
The two of them were both sitting comfortable and quiet. She hoped she wasn't doing the whole awkward silence thing to him. She was just content with things how they were.
Beth took a sip of her coffee. Maybe because she was so warm and cozy now, but Beth started to feel tired. She wondered what time it was, and how long she'd been out for. How late was he planning on keeping her out? Not that she minded at all, what else was she going to do. There was plenty of room on here. She could always just.. stay the night if he offered. Not that she wanted to rush to bed either.

"Wouldn't say you're warm, necessarily. More hot than anything else, you're even melting me a little. I'm getting less cool by the second over here, with you sitting next to me." He said, momentarily snapping out of his telepathy-induced glazed over gazing. His coffee mug was again tipped up to his face, the contents dropping to about a quarter of their original quantity.
Radio silence from Illy allowed him a decent few minutes to just sit and enjoy Beth's company, and the warm black caffeine slipping down his gullet. Of course, the silence also worried him slightly. The last thing she said was that she'd lost the whale and was going to start on her way back up, but knowing her... she was up to something.
Regardless, Alan was starting to nod off a little, relaxing back into the couch and adjusting his arm around the lady next to him. Just as his breathing started to deepen, a light bump to the bottom of the boat sent the contents of his mug all over his chest, his eyes flying open, and his body tumbling over, the arm that was previously wrapped around Beth flinging up in the air.

The cheesy flattery made Beth giggle lightly at how adorable he was. Her coffee was cooled off enough now where she could drink it in bigger gulps, so she finished off her cup while they sat together. Beth was possibly more tired than she thought, but was still able to stay mostly awake. Caffeine was supposed to help with this but apparently it wasn't having the effect on Alan either.
After a while, Beth gave in and they both were dozing off. Just as that happened, there was a bump under the boat which made her jump, especially since she was not used to being on a boat. Alan jumped up and spilled coffee on his shirt. "What was that? Are you ok?" She asked and rushed around looking for something to help clean him up. She found some napkins and brought them back, and made an attempt to get the liquid from soaking into his shirt too much.
Post by Alan Jameson on Aug 27, 2015 4:31:51 GMT -5
Alan knew exactly what the bump had been caused by, but telling Beth that a mischievous Dragon did it to make some trouble wasn't really the best of plans. Instead he settled for a quick "Yeah... probably just something bumpin' the boat a little, out of curiosity." while he stood and waited for the paper towels.
Once they had both wasted a number of thin napkins attempting to dry off the shirt, Alan realized that he hadn't actually brought any clothing on board just yet. Normally he would have just changed his shirt and thrown this one in the wash, or just go shirtless, but with present company and the lack of clothing on board he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do.
"Well. Normally I'd just change the shirt, but I don't have any extras on board at the moment... Haven't exactly finished settling in just yet. Mind if I just take the thing off? Not too keen on wearing a shirt soaked with coffee for the night. I'll leave it on if you'd rather I stay clothed though. Not gonna ask you to return the favor either, don't worry. Not unless you want at least." he said, giving her a little wink at the end.
